Justinian's University: Defeating the Deities

How are you getting 7 happy faces from only 20% culture. I thought it would only be 4 for the hippodrome, and 1 for the colosseum. Does the GA give a bonus here?

You get 1 happy face per 10% on the slider also do you not? EDIT: i.e. regardless of having s theatre or colisseum built.

Minor note, but I'd like to point out how spectacular coastal tiles are with moai statues and GA. If you have lighthouse, statues, colossus, fin, and GA, you can get 2 food, 2 hammers, and 5 commerce from one tile. It's absolutely ridiculous. Colossus + financial have always gone well with coastal tiles, and the possibility of playing as William of Orange (dikes) will simply make this even more ridiculous. Yeah, it's only for a short window as colossus expires around then, but even without it, William of Orange can get 2 f, 2 h, 4 commerce in all cities, or 2 f, 3 h, 4 commerce in his moai city during a golden age.

I'm a usual Prince player, but a couple ideas:
World War, right?
Noting the death of Roosevelt, try sending "suicide spies" until you find Mansa's top research city. Do something to it to make sure it'll be hard for him to get past Rifling.
He'll be Rifleman drafting, spamming, whipping, and buying ASAP. That means you beelining to Chemistry for the Frigates and Grenadiers.

I noticed that you have very few hindu monasteries in your cities.
I don´t understand why, even without any +% boni to hammers(forge/org religion) they pay for their hammer cost in 30 turns and you get research and culture as well.
Now it´s probably a bit too late with sci method on the horizon, but why didn´t you build them as soon as the AP was done?

Great thread btw. I wonder how you would win deity with tech trading off, since tech trading/bribing AIs seems to be the most important element in your strategic decisions.

Some cities had Hinduism spread to them only recently.

I haven't tried deity with TT off, but I expect it to be harder, especially so because bribing is impossible. The very tech trading not so much as long as a large empire is secured. All the early and mid-game techs are worth just several turns of late game research anyway.

TT off is possible on deity. Domination Caesar anarchy exploit..
Or Inca rush ;)

I play too rare on deity to say if I could win normal game with this option off.

The hippodrome gives a base +1 happiness and also +1 happiness if you have horses.

Sure but thats not why hes getting 7. 2 from slider, 4 from hippodrome (normally 2 from theatre, 1 from colloseum) + 1 happy from horses as well

Edit: Deleted as factually wrong.

Edit again: I was right. To that person claiming monasteries make culture, they don't in BTS after the patch 1.13 I think even though it says they do in the civlopedia.

Yep exactly. I've had some successful games on Immortal so far though (after recently switching from Emperor), so maybe I'll give it a try on deity some time. Gotta get used to Immortal anyways, I was reload-cheating a bit because I didn't know the build times for the Pyramids, etc. (I'm sometimes so annoyed by losing the pyramids one or two turns to the AI that I reload and chop some more forests :mischief: )

With no TT I found it pays to rely heavily on Espionage. You don't need most of the research buildings in most cities while getting extreme discounts for overspending. In my last game I leeched Mansa Musa until he went into culture mode and got some nice stuff like Education for 1009 (State religion bonus, camping spies, 30% bonus for overspending and trade routes) on normal game speed and a Big and Small map with Justinian. After that I had to start researching by myself but since I had just kicked Pericles' backside off of our continent and was dominating since. I guess I could've won it a bit earlier but I played it slowly and went for a finish in turn 320 or so with (for me) ok 120k points

Not being able to bribe the AI is a huge problem. You can usually pay them with gold but without already being at war with the target it's extremely expensive.

- Byzantine culture slider is worth an amazing 25 happy faces

I didn't read all the pages of the thread, so I don't know if this has been strictly commented yet (I know that AlessioCerci commented nearly the same thing in post #153), but as far as I've understood, this should be 35 happy faces (with Hippodrome and Colosseum, from Classical to Modern era) and 45 happy faces (with Hippodrome, Colosseum and Broadcast Tower, from Modern to Future era) as they should be available like this:
- 10 happy faces (base, 1 per 10%)
- 20 happy faces (Hippodrome, 1 per 5%)
- 5 happy faces (Colosseum, 1 per 20%)
- 10 happy faces (Broadcast Tower, 1 per 10%)

Been said a few dozen times now but loving this thread.......Really is helping us lower lvl players see the kind of thinking that goes on at the higher difficulty levels.
