There also used to be a large movement that wanted to get rid of the 'c' in Dutch (except for ch and sch), and replace it by 'k' or 's'. This was called the "alternative spelling". For instance they wrote 'kultuur' instead of 'cultuur'. About 15 years ago, new spelling rules were determined by the Dutch Language Union (Nederlandse Taal Unie), but they kept the 'c' in almost all cases, and since then the alternative spelling has almost died out.
