Sorry for the late news tip, but I'm depressed about this. Why oh why did Kasparov offer the draw, and why did Deep Junior accept??? Kasparov had the better position, and Deep Junior was up material. It was silly for EITHER of them to draw. But I guess niether of them wanted to risk the loss...

Anyone else mad about this? I wanted to see Kasparov rout 'it'...:D

The robot agreed to a draw?

Smart machines, these computers.

Even though Deep Junior was up about 2 points (they traded Rook for Knight) I think I might have drew as well. Kasparov had alot of options open, and that Rook was pretty deep in Deep Junior's territory...

Does the computer decide to draw, or do the humans do it for him? :hmm:

jeez, can robotic diplomacy be far from here?

What, you mean the UN? Wait...;)

Sorry, I couldn't resist the chance. Speaking of politics, you hear Kasparov's suggestion on the Iraq situation? He suggested that the US attack Iraq, Syria, and Iran.

Yea, Kasparov's position if it was better was not by much, he traded a rook for a knight and two pawns but was put in a defensive posture which I think would have made it difficult to capitalize on his extra pawns. He was probably afraid of making a mistake and losing which would not be as good as a draw result which almost guarentees him a rematch with another huge chunk of money.

I think they should have played on, too.

I think the human operator decides to accept the draw if one is offered, but the computer can offer one as well.

Well what did you expect? You need to be quite smart to play chess! :D

 The announcers, when they heard that line, said, "Well, I guess he is one of the more aggressive players, so..."

;)

kasparov is always good for "visionary" political ideas. 12 years ago he made the suggestion to sell eastern germany to western germany ...

I think it was called a draw just for both party's to save face. The programmers were probably losing faith in the code at this point and Kasparov's probably was not sure he could pull it off.

I have to agree with ya there. Deep Junior was making some pretty odd moves near the end, like shuffling his King around. It seemed to be without a plan.

Does anybody know what the score for the whole series is now?

I've read somewhere it ended 3-3 if that's what you mean.
