Kavithan Protectorate first 250 (?) Turns (Let's Play!)

What does 'Feindliche Übernahme' quest says? I think that's a quest we've never seen before.

The station they're trading with wants them to destroy the station to the south. If they did the trade route would become more profitable.

They also say that stations don't have an active attack like cities, so it should be possible to just shoot at the station with a ranged unit until its HP are at zero.
Personally i feel this would make it a little too easy to get rid of stations, city states in Civ5 atleast put up somewhat of a fight.

Interesting, this is the first example of a station quest, I'm glad to see this mechanic return.

Stations are not going to have the same impact as CSs, they appear and disappear naturally throughout the game on their own already, and they should be easy to get rid: of if a station plops down right where you were going to settle one turn before you get there. (Imagine if you were about to settle an amazing spot in Civ5 and a freaking City-State appears there out of nowhere? How frustrating that would be!)

This also means you will have to actively protect the stations you have a vested interest in, which is good, because it makes for tough decisions about what to do with your military.

It helps to think of the Stations in Civ BE as economic, rather than political entities. Although, as we all know, in the end politics is about money and power so yes, they can have their political relevance if the station you are messing with is already trading with someone else.

Station Shackleton wants the other station eliminated. In return they will increase their trade reward.

Those two guys talk so much nonsense... I can barely stand it. When they talked about Captain "Abel" from the moby dick novel I finally quit.

They were talking?

Then it helps that I can't understand German then. :D I'm just digging looking at the game terrain, units, etc.

The banter is hit and miss, but overall you'll cringe and roll your eyes more often than not. It's much better than the gamescom presentation and last year's Assyria LP, and can even be improved by skipping the first three minutes of every episode and a minute every time it looks like they'lll go off on a tangent.
I just hope that they won't ramp up the jokes and pseudophilosophy to compensate when they run out of basic things to explain and actually accelerate beyond 0,3 turns per minute.

I watched the first video and, well, the level of explanation is more or less for people who have never played CIV before - the pacing is indeed very slow.

It's supposed to be a Let's Play, not a Let's Talk or a Podcast...
*flails* :scan:

Jokes and pseudophilosophy, hmm? Sounds like every gaming sessions I've had with my friends, ever. Guy on the left making lame puns, guy on the right waxing philosophical about nothing in particular, me trying not to laugh at the absurdity.

Perhaps not enough of that good German beer was involved in the making of this video series?

I can't quite pin it down, but the way the older one tries to sound reputable while only blabbering about arbitrary and inconsistent stuff is somehow unbearable for me. Never heard so many trivialities in so little time. Guess that happens when you think you need to talk nonstop without really having anything to say. I guess a minimum of expertise in the game is indispensable when doing something like this.

They know quite a bit about the game, I would rate them at least Emperor level in Civ 5. Plus one of them is a games journalist doing tests and reports for one of the largest German gaming magazines (Gamestar). They aren't noobs, they just have fun doing it this way.

Or they have an agreement to not show too much per day, to keep people interested?

Doesn't anyone else wonder why they have access to the most recent version of CivBE since several days, but noone else - worldwide? Or do you think they did the whole recording a few days ago in one session? But who would have the nerve to let them play for many hours, probably the whole day? They have also obviously played quite a bit before recording this. And they seem to react to the criticism about playing too slow - do they have civBE at home???

This is all a huge, fishy intrigue! :crazyeye: :D

Overall, I prefer listening to them than not having any new info. And the way they show every little detail makes me very confident that the game will be practically bug-free at release. Few companies have versions of their games they can show so openly 1 month (!) before release. Some publishers have even begun to not give journalists any test versions before day 1. Stronghold Crusader 2, a RTS game, just got a "buyers warning" by Gamestar, because the review version was unplayable 3 days before release. Only the day 1 patch made it barely testable! And there a quite a few similar examples. This is gonna be a good game, I'm perfectly sure :)

It does appear that select "expert" bloggers are being given BE demo copies that extend to 250 turns, and these guys are the first to show it off. MaddJinn apparently has one such copy too, if I understand correctly, and will discuss it this Friday on the Twitch TV livestream.

Maddjinn is Probably one of the testers. (ie he has the 250,000 turn game copy)

FWIW - A good Let's Play soundtrack should simply be people talking about what they're thinking about in the game, and not much more.

Just sayin'

Like many media, blogs to some degree depend upon the popularity of their creators as much as the quality of their content, and in my experience, a popularity contest is seldom decided by expertise in a particular area, but has more to do with how entertained people feel. Finding expertise and entertainment in one person is often a long shot.
