Kavithan Protectorate first 250 (?) Turns (Let's Play!)

I watched, and fell asleep twice. I understood maybe 60% of what they said, and it was dull. I tried to watch it again, and fell asleep a second time. Yea, I'll pass.

Part Six for your viewing pleasure. Guaranteed to cure insomina or your money back :D

Part 6 online!

Examining a crashed satellite gave them 80 production in their city, a ressource pod 19 science.

They also got a quest after choosing to trade with the second station instead of destroying it (as asked by the first station): Refugees from the station claim that they practice slavery there and also ask you to destroy it.

What makes me wonder: stations always seem to give you 4 yields of various types on level 1, but the lower worth of gold compared to other yields like science is not being taken into account.

Street tooltip says: Connecting cities with your capital brings a lot of money, they cost 1 energy and improve movement speed. Nothing about other functions.

One important change to civ 5: Hills only give 1 production, so removing forest from them is a net loss. Building a mine this early only gives 1 production, but at the loss of 1 food (from the forest). 20 production instantly for removing forests.

They also don't consider a future freshwater bonus for farms. Is it gone? Arioch doesn't list any on his tech tree analysis site either.

Honestly I could understand the fresh water bonus for farms being totally gone. It's not like you have to figure out irrigation and fertilization.

I watched, and fell asleep twice.
Same happened to me.
They play at quick speed and still there's not much going on. It's all very passive.
Maybe all the talking isn't the only thing that's boring, it also could be the game itself.

Nah, I broke down and started watching it myself and since I don't know German I can just treat their chatter as background noise. "Oh they're happy!" "Oh, they're worried about their soldier getting eaten by bugs!" More or less ignoring the guys and I'm still enjoying how pretty the game is.

Meanwhile I'm wondering why they're wasting time researching chemistry when they took Tectonic Scanners and know there are no oil deposits near their capital. I mean, both the laboratory and recycler are nice, but I'm sure there are bigger priorities to research.

I disagree, Chemistry is easily one of the best early econ techs with both a science and a production building.

What other options are better? Genetics - don't need health immediately (though health will be soon once they get the second city out), science is weaker than chem's; Physics - observatory has equal science, but they have no quarries and won't be building sats soon; Engineering - no dire need for energy, unit production bonus is a waste so early. As for leaf techs, none are relevant to the game yet: there's no need for Geophysics (they can see geothermal, they know there's none in the cap), embarkation (still exploring the land, don't want explorers to be eaten while embarked), or Alien Bio (not much miasma in cap).

I think the first three techs they chose are all good for the very early game, they cover everything: ultrasonic fence, +prod, +food, +sci, trade, and expansion. I expect we'll see some combination of these become the norm, so I think it's a great choice. Their next choice was Genetics, which also makes perfect sense as they'll need health for the expansion.

also Physics doesn't get you science unless you have improved Firaxite (required for observatory.. only available with Robotics).. its definitely a later tech (unless you have Quarries)/ are going militaristic

Basically its
Physics/Engineering in some combo for military
Chem/Eco/Genetics in some combo for civilian development

Fair enough, and they did have the giant pile of bonus nuts to instantly produce the recycler which gave them +4 production (+2 for the building, and +1 each for the two trade routes I saw).

I guess I'm not familiar enough with the game to start calling them on their choices (which is only to be expected because it hasn't come out yet).

I think especcially Christian's choices are very good. I would have built the vivarium (est. +3 food) by now and waited one turn before producing the settler (+1 pop in city). I would also have sent a larger expeditionary force or none at all, and taken other virtues if playing that passively. But thats just flavors, i think they are playing fine and making good decisions imho.

And they coined the ulimative insult: Hügelparker (one that does not have the guts to move the explorer to less defendable terrain: parking on hills).

That's one interpretation, but not what came to my mind.

Hey Seek, I know this is OT but what sort of player are you using that allows you to alter the speed of the videos? Thanks.

I understand maybe 45% of what they are saying. I have to say, I like the pacing. We get a little treat each day. Also, as the inbetween turn time takes longer and longer the witticism and interaction between the two will be nice, perhaps.

This is a far better let's play that the 100 turns where they rush through things and don't enjoy the game for those of us who don't have it. These guys take a moment and zoom in on units, they tell tales about what's happening at each start, and seem to have a set up where they will be done with their turns around launch.

I usually use flash, but when I want to speed up the vids I use html5 (opt in with YouTube settings, I think.)

Double speed seriously makes these videos less arduous.

Thanks for the info.

And while I enjoy the vids and the effort put into them, it is hard to believe that these amiable slowpokes come from the same crowd who invented "blitzkrieg."

yes, lull yourself into a false sense of security! Its not like a Blitzkrieg would have to be well planned and diligently executed to be effective. Nothing to fear here, we're all just amiable "Hügelparkers". :mischief:

Hey, I can't brag, my ancestors conquered the world then sat back and partied in togas until the hungry, ragged folks outside the gates decided enough was enough.
