Kerbal Space Program

A continuation from my Duna Express 2 transit ship. Kerban to Duna transfer was successful but I expended about half my fuel getting into a low orbit. The great thing though was that the lander didn't wobble during acceleration and deceleration.

After a tense re-entry, the engines slowed down the Duna Lander 2 and the parachutes did the rest. Congratulations, Jebediah Kermin! You're the first Poodle Corp. employee on Duna!

After a romp around the surface, Jeb fired off the landing rockets and jettisoned them for the ascent phase once their fuel was exhausted. But the rendezvous angle was wrong and Jeb ran out of fuel on the way up! Fortunately he hadn't expended too much RCS fuel and at least got him out of the atmosphere.

Fortunately the mothership thought of this eventuality and moved into an interception orbit to meet the limping module.

A few puffs of the RCS got the module on its way back to the mothership! Thank goodness the module is extremely light

Boom! It was suspected. BTW, i think this game is too exigent about structural stress and rockets lacks power and use too much fuel. I see in real world very "simple" rockets using a couple of stages and only one or two engines carrying many tons payloads, however in KSP you need lots of engines and complicated structures full of struts to get few tons in orbit.

@Leonel: Good job. Very well planed mission. :goodjob:

After having a tendency to start overengineered headache inducing missions, I've been doing some missions focusing on being lightweight and efficient to ease myself back into the game after not playing much since .17.

First a combo Rover/Lander thats Mun return capable with less fuel capacity than a single 400l tank.

Had a bit of spare fuel so I tried a powered chute assisted landing. Semi successfully...

Then a Probe Lander to Eeloo. Pretty happy with how lightweight the launcher is for reaching the furthest body in the solar system thats also way off axis. Could be done more efficiently if I had used a calculator to time the transfer better, and maybe some more asparagus-y stuff.

Eeloo looks awesome! Due to fuel constraints I couldn't really choose my landing spot, so I ended up in the middle of an icy desert rather than one of the canyons like I wanted.

Very cool

All these screenshots are inspiring me.. Why haven't I played since .19 came out yet?? Oh yeah, Football manager has been stealing a lot of my ksp time now that I'm in the Europa league. I should totally go to Eve though and scan the crap out of it

The new version is pretty great. I also finally got some mods including an autodocker!!!!!! I haven't played it more than a few hours but I have a few days yet left in spring break.

Docking is definitely one of the funnest parts, though :(

Autodocker!?!? Link plz. Does it feel like cheating?

I have a question for those who have screwed around with the new rover parts. I loaded up 0.19 for a couple minutes last night and wanted to just build a simple rover and try it out on the launchpad.. but I didn't like any of the pods (manned or unmanned), but I had to go with one, right.. So.. Do I have to build my rover and attach it to a pod, then decouple on the launchpad? I just want to get a good feel for the rover parts before I start building a big mission to Eve with it

Auto docker? Pfffffft docking is easy anyway once you know how to work the targeting system and have a gentle touch.

HydroTech RCS Autopilot
It does more than docking too. I haven't used it yet, but based on the following Youtube video, it seems very helpful. It doesn't really feel like cheating to me considering the Russians have used automated docking since forever and they use it on the ISS. Manual docking is stupid, tedious and pretty much pointless in most cases.

Link to video.

No it's not.

That doesn't make it less tedious or annoying.
...and design your modules to have RCS situated around the center of mass properly.
I can do that and it still takes too much time and most importantly, isn't fun.
That very much, too

Stop showing off. :p

I'll show off as much as I want! I brought a Kerbin to and back from Duna alive!

Well it's my thread anyway. SO THERE

Docking is funny to learn but after 20-30 times, it becomes repetitive and time consuming. It is a game, not a job, so if it is not fun there is not reason to invert time and effort since you wont get paid for it. Any way of doing it quickly will be welcomed.

It is a game, not a cutscene.
