Due to problems with civ my save for the original Khmer domination game got deleted:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

So I'm starting a new one!

I'm going to post our starting position and a save of the map. For some reason when I loaded up the game, it says it was 3940 BC instead of 4000 BC. Not sure why. Maybe I hit the turn button.
but here we go!

Map settings: Fractal, Noble, No espionage, 9 AIs Survayerman of the Khmer empire.

Wow, really nice start. I would settle in place since you have gold, cows and spices within one square, plus 2f river tile next to spices, and plenty of forests to chop. I would go striaght to AH for hooking up cows, then mining into bronze working to see if there is any copper nearby and to chop down the forests, if you get lucky you might be able to go straight into axe rush.

I'm only a noble level player too, when i took a break I was stomping noble level difficulty and moving up to prince now i can only get a win about half the time on noble so It would be cool if a better player than me could comment. I'm trying to improve my play, some I'm playing with a bunch of non financial leaders because apparently the trait can cripple your playing ability. I like suyry's traits, but got frustrated at playing him just because he's uniques IMO are pretty bad (The baray is ok, but not really exciting for a domination, war into tech lead into diplomatic/space victory). I'll return to trying to win him later when I start wining more consistently. In thoery I like the setup than sury has for domination, since he can claim land and improve it so easily, but I can't seem to get a good game in with him.

Settling 1S gets grassy cow obviously, not so obviously cap gets +1c for riverside spice.

I'd move my scout on the gold and my settler 1N of the plains cow. Your EXP so can waste a 1-3 turns and find a better spot ;).

for the sake of KISS I would not complicate things too much... moving 1 tile on noble is good limitation for the learning purpose.

I would settle in place since 1S seems full of sea tiles without sea food. It's food poor but you have plenty of forests to chop which you can use for getting settlers out quickly. Tech: AH->BW

First turn. Moved the scout onto the village and...
Well that reveals a lot of area for expansion!
First contact on turn 5:eek::eek:! Six turns away from my border! I had better have iron/copper/horses for an early rush...
Almost finished with my first choice, animal husbandry. Then I'll research the wheel. I want that gold and those cos hooked up ASAP!
I look around and I have horses a few turns from my border. Unfortunately they are farther from ramsese so my first settler will have to move away from him :(
Also, most of the map as of this point. I also met gilgamesh, and am looking at our cultural borders from a distance. Yep Egypt has GOT to go!

Sorry about the order of the screen shots they got messed up.

Any reason for settling in place Romegpyt? I think 1S was more optimal by far! Also, standard forum games have huts and events off.

Also, you can upload your images to imgur.com or imageshack.us and then use the code to embed them. For example:

Agreed with Revent. That capital isn't going to grow for a very long time. No fresh water to farm the grassland tiles aside from that one south of the capital. You either need to found a new capital or take over the AI's capital and move palace there.

Also, initially, if you were to move the scout onto the gold, he would've revealed the rice and green cow. 1E of the rice is not a bad spot, at least better than the SIP.

1S would be a better spot to settle but you can get irrigation from civil service later from the river to the east for growth.

Civil Service comes really late. In the meantime, what are you going to do with that city? At size 2, the city will be working the plains cow and the gold mine, yielding only 1F surplus.

One little trick with no espionage is building the great wall and accumulate great persons points. Then build the wonder of your choice, for example pyramids. If you succeed and you have enough GP points then voila instant GE. Unless they changed that.
