King of the World #11: Darius I

Too bad Peri had that settler there. Volgodonsk would have been better razed and resettled 2N1W (it's where I always put Moscow when I have the chance - an absolute powerhouse production site, especially with watermills and workshops in the late game), but obviously you'd have lost it to the Greeks if you had. Still, it'll be a decent city and helps to stake your claim to Russia. I bet Peri settles 2E (typical 1 off the coast) or 1SE of his chariot.

As for your settler, there are some very juicy grasslands with hills and rivers N of Volgodonsk. It'd be a shame to let Jules have them. The isthmus copper-deer city does little more than claim resources for you, but if you're worried about someone settling there (who?)...

Adopting Judaism should be a no-brainer, at this point. Long-term, you've got to have a plan for dealing with Rome (xbows/maces/trebs or rifles/cannon?). With currency in 8 turns your economy will become uncrashable. I think you should try to crash it anyway. Land is power, after all (if you live long enough to develop it). War with Greece? You just gave them iron, so you can kiss the usefulness of immortals goodbye in any war with Peri. And as for military, I'd be trying to crank out a bunch of shock axes in case Jules decides to get frisky. Not sure giving him IW was the best move. Once he takes Peri out, who's the closest target? (And he will declare at pleased).

As for techs, calendar or monarchy would be nice to raise the happy cap. You've got multiple dye and incense for trading, but maybe you can get calendar in trade after Qin builds the MoM. ;) Cats would be nice as well, but they're not usually too hard to trade for. I'd say go CS, MC, machinery (move the cap to Babylon, which will make a great bureaucracy capital - there's no :commerce: in Persepolis and Babylon has decent :hammers: ). Jules is probably heading to construction :( so an alternative might be HBR/math/construction for wellies). I think he'll make mincemeat of Peri, who's not much of a warrior. With the Jewish shrine in his hands his tech rate will go through the roof, he builds a lot of units, and his aggression level is high. Try to get him friendly and see if you can get him to go after Han or Wang to keep him busy.

Good luck, and great job so far! :goodjob: You really lucked out on the CoL slingshot.

People have been saying take out Julius. Please don't. Make a challenge. See what you can do to stop him without war. Remember, the harder your game, the better for us.

I suggest taking all your veteran Immortals and building some Catapults/Axemen. Immortals run around pillaging and stuff, while the Axes and Cats follow behind to do the heavy lifting.

Pericles is weak, he has a low unit build prob IIRC. Take him, then Caesar.

 You don't think taking out Rome will be a challenge????

What I am saying is leave Julius alone until the end so Neal can have a challenge. It would be interesting to see two super powers go against each other!

I wonder how this scenario would play out if you dropped Huyana Capac on the Stone near the Aztec starting location and open up the mountains and let him have North and South America all to himself.

Would he be powerwonderspamming while you build yourself a Eurasian empire and then have a big showdown?

Will he be in space before you discover the New World?

With Montezuma and Sitting Bull as his tech trading partners? please .

Someone didn't read the scenario...

There is no Montezuma in this map, it's Ancient Civs (1 AD or before) only. Capac isn't in it either. Sitting Bull IS, but only to balance out N.America so it's not a barbarian fest continent. Though I still say it would have been MORE fun that way.. *Grumble grumble*

What I'm not sure is if JC will leave Neal alone :/

I think some scouting of your neighbors is the best move short term, then we can see what you're up against.

Is Rome in WHEOOH's? I would think his hated enemy would be hannibal. Adopt Judaism and play nice and you should get to pleased at least. If you join him in a war maybe you can get him to friendly. Trying to go agaist him during the Prat era seems unwise.

The target for war is India if you go that route, But I wouldn't yet. I think you should settle as fast as your economy can manage. The more land you get peacefully the easier your eventul conquests will become. Keep your army positioned to either backstab Greece if rome starts to attack them or to participate in the Rome Carthage throw down.

I would also be thinking about getting either Confucian or Buddist into the eastern civs. Perhaps long tern China and Rome will become hated rivals.

Uruk is Jerusalem. Ankara would be 1S of Eridu. Eridu would be Sinop.

Yeah!
