Hmm. Maybe Harald is going to get the Teddy treatment as many have suggested. Since they are calling the new one Viking and he has Longboats in his back ground.

It would be weird for one version to have a longboat LUU while the other has a Longboat background art.

Could be, but I guess the name “the viking” is given more in relation to the rest of content in the pack than to Hadrada’s actual status in-game. Background aside, it is clear the one more Viking-like is the old one.

Nevertheless, it is still posaible both versions habe longboats as UU. I guess there is nothing stopping it, right?

I'm sure the old one is going to be Viking Harald. His current leader screen also shows a longboat too. The original one also looks more like Norway with the fjord and aurora borealis, where Varangian Harald's background could be longboats in a different location such as Eastern Europe.

They haven't done that before, so I don't think they'd do that now. I'm sure Viking Longboats would stay with the Viking persona.

You know, I agreed with this til I just saw their tweet for him that said “ready the longboats”.

I don’t think they’ll rework Viking Harald. Giving Varangian Harald the same UU would be inconsistent (and dare I say, a bit uninspired…) but I wouldn’t be surprised now.

I honestly hope they don't pull a Cleopatra and give us two different versions of the same thing. I really am/was looking forward to possibly a more religious/trade take on Norway, at least.

Berserkers at least fit the Varangian feel anyways, by themselves.

"Hello, I come with letters from Her Majesty Victoria
who, learning how you're trading now, sings 'Hallelujah Gloria!'
and sent me to convey to you her positive euphoria
as well as little gifts from Britain's various emporia.

"Her Majesty considers the arrangement to be tentative,
Until we ship a proper diplomatic representative.
We don't foresee that you will be the least bit argumentative,
so please ignore the Man-o-War we brought as a preventative."

I'm a simple man. I see Sondheim lyrics, I give a like.

Victoria the Victorian... ow my head.

Anyway, love the picture of St. Paul's, even if it isn't really next to the Thames

Does it look like it's on the Thames to you? Interesting. To me it doesn't really look like it's next to the Thames on the picture. And you can see St Paul's from the Thames (even the other side of it), so it's probably not 100% accurate, but it's also not that far off tbh.

But yeah, lovely picture indeed. One of the better ones in the game in my opinion.

Perhaps it's the weird perspective throwing me off, with the bridge more or less equal in degree above horizon to the top of the main nave. Nowadays you can only see the dome from the Thames because of the build-up around it. Even in the 1800s (and as far back as 1666 when the Great Fire happened) the area around St. Paul's was very dense. Even though it's only three blocks from the river in real life, I feel like it shouldn't be as visible and looming as it is presented here.

So any guess on agendas?

I think Steampunk Victoria will get a renamed Heavy Industry agenda. Varangian Harald might get a renamed Pillager agenda because I feel like religious and trade agendas have been done to death. Elizabeth, just because of her lines in game, might be the opposite of Magnificence Catherine and Gorgo, which is she'll want to trade away her resources to get what she wants and likes those who capitulate.

Clearly Victoria is going for a culture victory by using its industrial advantage to mass produce postcards of London of dubious authenticity to trick foreign tourists into visiting.
I mean if you play with her without GS rules, you'll still get access to British Museums, right?
Though I would think the ideal way to play her would surely be with Workshop of the World.

Where's the smog? The thick, depressive atmosphere? The homeless, the unemployed? (not that those are mutually exclusive)

Where are the dead horses? What about the mutilated middle-aged women on the streets?

Well, I guess I can forgive the last one. I'm going to give Victorian London the benefit of the doubt and assume that Whitechapel isn't representative of the entire city ;)

But even then, Age of "Steam" is a polite name for this persona

One must wonder, what's her other persona gonna be? Colonizer?

I keep on referring her to Steampunk Vicky, and I'll continue to do so. :mischief:

I believe Empress Victoria would be the name for the original one.
