Two trade routes for the first recruited admiral and one trade route for every subsequent admiral would have been better.

(Could maybe even make it a straight two trade routes per admiral)

A cultural or a faith mechanic would have been interesting as well. I find the "extra traders" thing to be kind of a gimmick (and a bit lazy, to be honest). If you want a trade game, just go for Portugal.
