Leaderhead creation

Dido of Carthage.

I can't help but notice that all three of the leaderheads you've done so far are young women that cover half the screen. Just saying.

Update on Vlad.

Still gotta make the arms for real. Since the last one I've allowed him to grow out his hair and mustache a bit, as well as increasing the size of his nose. I've also smoothed out the nose, though that was done after this was taken. After I've done all that, it's a matter of getting him into a pose I like, and painting + details.

Whoever told us about Sculptris, thanks for giving me something to do in my free time.

Nice! Great to see Vlad is coming along well.

I have being playing with sculptris is a bit more too. Still learning at a snail pace, but I'm definitely making some ground. But I won't post anything I make until I achieve something I deem to be half-decent.

Anyone knows which software did Sukriract use to create his Henry VIII leader model?
ZBrush for sculpting and retopo, blender for uv mapping and rigging. Substance painter for texturing, then back to blender for rendering. I can post a short outline of my process later if there's demand.

Glad you like them ;).

This is Adrastus of Argos with a doctored version of the Civ5 Alexander background:

Please do!

More Japan leaderheads:

Here's my first leader again, but with the right aspect ratio and with a better background:

And here's a new leader. If my mod actually had any fans, this would be the equivalent of the Catherine de Medici announcement. Behold, Western Honshu's representative...

Yes, I know. HE'S NOT A MORI. Get over it, people. (Not sure about the plural)

Shouldn't the second one have the leader positioned on the right of the picture; I'm fairly sure you've put him in a place where he will be hidden by diplomacy menus, if I remember correctly. And anyway, even if I'm wrong, all other leaders have been positioned on the right of the screen.

What about the first one, who's pretty much bang in the middle of the screen? Anyway, if I don't see a leader on the left of the screen before release, I'll change that leaderhead. Thanks for pointing it out. Making a leaderhead, for me anyway, is 99% making the character rather than the background, so the hard work's already done for that one.

(Also, if the positioning of the leader is the worst thing about my leaderheads, I'm pretty pleased with myself...)

I can't see your leader being in the centre of the screen being a problem. But, I'm fairly sure there is gameplay which shows there being diplomacy menus covering much of the left side of the screen.

Besides that, I think the first picture needs some tidying up around the collar and neck, and there appears to be the left over of a cropped away background on the second picture (white patch between arm and torso).

Edit: I think Montezuma is actually fairly central

Thanks for the feedback! I noticed the white patch after uploading the image and it'll definitely disappear before the mod is released in a few months time. As for the collar thing on the first leader, I'll try and fix it, but it's a bit hard because that leader is one head superimposed on another body (both representations of the same historical leader, but in different styles).

Here's No.4. Seeing as nobody has tried to guess the previous three, I'll just say who it is.

Introducing Shakushain of the Ainu...

Civ4 had somewhat cartoonish models (not as much as 6) so I imagine those models would make a good base for moddeling, we can just add (many, many) more polygons and reshape them. And high-res materials/textures.

The bone structure could be a problem as I've never really done bones.

Now I'm struggling to find premade arms. I can't find any model that is simply: Arm.

Halp plz. :cry::cry::cry:

If I get time I'll try to do animated leaderheads. Assuming we get some tools. It took like 3 years before we had them for Civ5 :(

It'd be awesome if you could, I loved your stuff for Civ 4 and 5!

I think you should try downloading a model of a full body and cut out the arm from the model. I definately know there are models you can find for full pre-made bodies. Only problem would be separating the arm (I'm sure you can do that, you'll just need to find a tutorial on doing so, so more internet searching).
