MARIA I
Sure, it may not be the starry night sky that most CivFanatics like, and it may not be the big, grand leaderscreen that some other leaders have, but this leaderscreen is still one of the best. Everything in this leaderscreen just fits with everything else, from the colours, to the aesthetic, the music, the composition, the layers - everything just comes together so beautifully to create a delightfully charming leaderscreen which perfectly represents the Portugal Civ. It's not the shiniest Civ, nor is it the grandest, most overpowered, but all of it's elements just come together so smoothly, so seamlessly, and it creates a delightful Civ to play as. Truly, this is a leaderscreen which accurately represents the Civ it is attached to.
MONTEZUMA
Oww, look at me, I'm Montezuma! I'm flailing around, screaming about sacrificing captives while standing in front of a skull-filled background!
Yeah, no.
I never got the love for this leaderscreen. Sure, it's not bad, it's above average, but it's not that great. When I saw Monty the first time, flailing about like crazy, talking even crazier, it gave me a chuckle. But after seeing it over and over again, it really just got annoying. It's over-exaggerated to the point of being just plain silly. The dark lighting also subtracts somewhat from the experience, but not too much. Some people like the raving crowd in the background, but with how loud it is it can really be hard to hear Monty's theme music. My biggest complaint would have to be that the background is just completely bland; couldn't have had some more colours in there? It's a good screen, just not good enough when compared to some of the other leader's screens.
As others have pointed out, with how much of a stereotype/caricature/cartoon-ish he is, I don't know whether to be annoyed, or offended. Probably both.
