Let's Read the Bible Once

Lego dudes FTW ! ^^ Jokes aside it is really just a cooler version of Bible :)

Interesting trivia ! ^^ : Bible got's it name from Biblio βιβλιοθήκη bibliotheke (Greek) - means "book" - Now it is the ONLY book common folks got in middle ages (censorship was harsh for no-nobles back then) so it is simply called "the book" for that reason - hence - "The bible" name ^^

I've tried reading it. The creation myth was just ridiculous. The story of Noah's ark was simply stupid. Then I got to a part where it was telling about a man who lived for over 900 years. I stopped there. Poor storytelling and ridiculous stories. Bunch of rubbish that book is.

You do realise that the ark is a perfect shipping container and it is very stable in rough waters, which is why now many ships have very similar dimensions to it to make it sea worthy.

I'd hazard a guess it's the whole "gathering up of two of each of the hundreds of millions of animal species to repopulate the earth" thing that people question.

I've never heard anyone say "That whole Noah's ark thing is ridiculous. I just can't accept that an ark would be his choice as a seaworthy vessel"

I was under the impression that this dude was banished from this thread for his ignorance ! :D
edit : keel-houled ? xD

Ignorance? Meh. Who cares. We're all ignorant in the grand scheme of things. CH takes the slings and arrows with good grace and never returns serve. I wish I had the same good humor and patience.

Well maa'be we are all just tumbli'n in de dark - but oh ehhh.... same scene all the same :D

read what the Bible says, since it doesn't mention the word species with what he brought,he brought animals after their kind.

I clicked on the link, & there was no actual source for this, just "an estimate" from a Vatican spokesperson. Unless this can be sourced to actual data, that seems... well... an ass-pull, no offense. All due respect, I question the validity of this. Can anyone cite an actual source for this? That seems an outrageous clam that needs outrageous evidence, not to be believed by someone just claiming it.
Indeed. That one caught my attention as well. And it is being picked up and repeated by the usual groups which have already been claiming that Christians were a persecuted religion for years with no real proof outside of a few isolated incidents.

While there are more than two billion Christians, which translates to .005% of the population, one would think that we would certainly know if that many Christians were being murdered in Africa, the Middle East and Asia each year due to their beliefs. He is likely including those who die in Africa over the continuing sectarian violence between Christians and Muslims in this number, which isn't really fair. It is essentially a religious war between factions similar to the Crusades.

It also calls into question how many Muslims could be similarly labeled.

Regarding the OP, I have tried to read the Bible cover to cover a number of times. I invariably get bogged down in the Old Testament not far from Exodus and lose interest. Good luck.

If I may say so Muslims and Christians pretty much worship the same god ... I think ...

Then you might be surprised at how many Christians don't think so.

And why ? It's practically the same god - the difference is Muslims got (?) more prophets than Christians ....

Abrahamic religions have much in common with each other, including the god.

At least part of it is likely the issue of how can they rationalize hating those who worship the same deity.

From what I've been told, Muslims think Christians worship 3 Gods in violation of the 1st Commandment. God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost. They worship just God. It's all just a misunderstanding about the Holy Trinity since God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost are one being so we still are just worshiping one God.

Ok, fair enough, but there was a statistical claim made, re:

From the link provided: "Credible research has reached the shocking conclusion that an estimate of more than 100,000 Christians are violently killed because of some relation to their faith every year," Vatican spokesman Monsieur Silvano Maria Tomassi said Tuesday in a radio address to the United Nations Human Rights Council."

On Topic, though, my favorite Bible passages are:
Proverbs 31:6-7 – 6: Let beer be for those who are perishing, wine for those who are in anguish. 7: Let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more.

Eh, it's not the military doing the counting. I'd trust this number about as much as any count of this nature. It does come from the Vatican, and they have a great intelligence service. Maybe if the Pope said it, I'd believe it more. Just got to have faith sometimes ;)

How many Christians are living in the Middle East? How about Jews outside of Israel? Is that number going down each year and if it is why?

That's a great Bible passage :D

I'll never understand some Baptists hostility to alcohol. Pretty sure Jesus turned water into alcohol, so it can't be all bad.

I'm sure there are warning against being a drunk idiot elsewhere in the Bible. It clearly has good uses like killing off bad feelings sometimes when nothing else will.

What percentage of Christians who don't believe they worship a similar God to Muslims in turn hate Muslims?
Based on the posts in this forum, I'd have to say quite a few unless it is oddly unrepresentative for some reason.

President George W. Bush created a boiling controversy amongst evangelicals in 2003 when he declared that Christians and Muslims worship the same God. Many accused Bush of pandering to political correctness. Nearly 80 percent of evangelical leaders polled in 2003 disagreed with the notion that Muslims and Christians pray to the same God.

Christians should certainly emphasize commonalities with Muslims wherever possible. As I showed in my book American Christians and Islam, American evangelicals have often needlessly alienated Muslims by demonizing them and insulting the Prophet Muhammad. But we have to balance charity toward Muslims with sober acknowledgment of the deep differences between us.
