Lets talk about Tom MacDonald...

Birdjaguar for emperor! :king:

Let us surrender or will of what is rightdoing and wrongdoing to the CFC moderator staff. Only they understand the pure way and can best protect my delicate mind.
Keep in mind that if they were in the music thread, they might not get noticed at all. Discussion stuff usually gets a closer look. Moderators are in the position to make decisions about questionable material and so we do. The discussion is still active and his "music" freely available on line.

Yep. I wouldn't have noticed this if it had been in the music thread because I almost never go there (takes forever to load and 99.9% of the time I have tried to listen, it's just noise I don't consider to be music).

What's the difference whether someone talks about committing violence toward identifiable minorities or screams it and calls it "music"?

One is incitement, the other is music people don't like. Conflation is an indicative mindset.

Just a nosy question: You've posted photos and mentioned your daughter on numerous occasions over the years. You haven't said if she might some day be interested in joining CFC. Is there material posted in OT that you would not want her to watch or read, if she should join up when she's 13?
I want her to spend more of her time "irl", she's already online too much.

She's more of a anime fan than a gamer. She was obsessed w this anime visual novel/game called Danganronpa, now she's branched out to be pretty into anime in general.

Your original post, pre-edit, was less offensive.

Please keep in mind that email notifications of new posts in watched threads are of the original post, not the edited post.

Canada has freedom of expression, not freedom of speech. That means that songs promoting violence toward identifiable minorities is the same as spoken hate speech.

Not that rap, at least that I've noticed, is spoken, nor is it sung. It's usually just a bunch of noisy screaming.

Vote with your bootstraps. Don't like race theory training? Then go get another job. Let the free market decide.

Critical race theory and sensitivity training is destroying democracy?? Tinfoil hat much?

Joe McCarthy led a national effort to fire people, that was neither democracy or the free market. "Rehabilitating" offenders before they can get another job criminalizes free speech, that isn't good for democracy. Its good for people who dont believe in democracy though, censorship is the canary in the coal mine.

I took your advice and last night I went through and reported all of his videos for hate speech. The unfortunate thing about YouTube is you can't report a video without watching it and giving him more views. It's chilling that some of his videos have over 10 million views.

Maybe he got 10 million complaints

The edit was not unintentional.

Not that I accused you of conflating the two. I don't think I would be so ratchet as to accuse you of thinking this boring music is that. If, and I do mean if, you would be so silly to think this shock rap is hate speech, then you would be Tom's mark, the person type that grants his music what, perhaps scant, relevancy and merit it has.

Could you rephrase this in less convoluted sentences?

You edited your post. Obviously you are accusing me of conflating something.

I have no idea what "ratchet" means in this context. I'm not into whatever slang you're using.

I don't think any kind of rap has merit. I also don't think hate speech has merit.

Duly noted.

"Ratchet" is just "far out," but so way far out it might be too far out, or it might just be out of this world.

How do we collectively solve the "Tom MacDonald problem" as a civilized society without destroying out own democracy in the process because that is exactly what these types of racist cry bullies want. These dangerous far-right voices cannot be allowed spread their disgusting ideologies further! They've literally moved onto targeting young and impressionable kids!

Ah... The Tom MacDonald Question....

I have to say...

I don't know.

OT used to be divided into The Chamber, for Serious, Highfalutin' Discussions, and The Tavern was for Not-Serious, Normal Conversations. It's an experiment that ultimately did not live up to its intended purpose, and was dropped (thank goodness, because it was sometimes difficult to figure out where the line was in posting some threads).

We’re still 25 years into trying to solve the Tom Arnold Question. His movies are terrible, yet he keeps finding work.

This other Tom is going to have to wait.
I found King Ralph tolerable.

Rap music isn't exactly known for selling due to high quality. And violence is often part of its culture.
I only watched part of the "fake woke" ""music"" video, and in there he seems to only refer to violence as something others threaten against him.

"Ratchet" is synonymous with "wretched" and denotes being ignorant, low-class, petty, uneducated, etc., and/or imitating the traits/behaviors of folk who fall into those categories. It's an insult, generally directed at women, less often at gay men. I don't know if it has any association with Nurse Rachet from the movie.

Thank you, Sommerswerd.

@Farm Boy: You and I are done. Permanently.

The Stupids is an unjustly forgotten movie.

Hmm, wasn't @Farm Boy referring to himself?

Let's pretend he doesn't exist and not link his Youtube videos
This morning when I woke up I didn't know he existed, I'd prefer to return to that state of blissful ignorance
Perhaps there are some cults that offer blissful ignorance.......

You don't seem too upset about Joe McCathy getting "cancelled." Joe McCarthy was a fascist just like this guy. I don't see how rehabilitating offenders criminalizes free speech or kills the free market. None of those things are related and besides the free market is overrated anyway. In a country like America he's free to go be a racist elsewhere. Fortunately when it comes to so-called "free speech" there's more moderate countries like Canada where you can't just spew any garbage you want. For example, if you mis-gender someone in Canada, or want to be an jerk and refuse to use their preferred pronouns it's considered a criminal offense. Trans people are offered the same rights and protections as any other minority group.

Honestly, making scumbags like Tom MacDonald take some educational courses on critical race theory, or some sensitivity training isn't going to do much to help. Often the structures aren't in place to make something like that mandatory which is why I think there needs to be some nationalized effort, otherwise they will just go be a racist somewhere else. If the carrot doesn't work, you're forced to resort to the stick.

Canada has freedom of expression, not freedom of speech. That means that songs promoting violence toward identifiable minorities is the same as spoken hate speech.

I used to think abolishing the first amendment was a radical idea until I found out there's many much more moderate and civilized countries like Canada that have laws concerning what is and isn't allowable speech. Really it's not the idea of abolishing the first amendment that's radical, it's the first amendment that's radical. It allows racist gutter scum to perpetuate and reap the benefits of the systemic inequality that's been in place since America's founding and if they want to spew their bile, "it's jus free speech bro."
