And Iraq...

If there is a god,
and if there is still an Iraqi left at that point. ;)

this is great news, but i doubt it will last long. it's just too good to be true.

sultan, who do you think is the best democratic candidate? i'm going for Kerry.

Kerry is the best candidate from an "absolute" perspective, but he isn't the most electable candidate.

Graham if the war happens, Lieberman if it doesn't, Gary Hart may come in as a wild card. Gephardt is automatic VP.

As for it "lasting long", it is only going to get better, Sween. Believe it.

Unless another disaster happens. Both 9/11 and the Columbia disaster temporarily saved Bush from low ratings. They gave him a chance to "look Presidential" without having to actually "do something Presidential." If you look at his charts, its all downward spiral until a disaster causes a positive spike in his approval ratings. I'm for less disaster and more downward spiral, but retaliation for warmongering will probably prevent that vision from being fully realized.

The light at the end of the tunnel... let's just hope that's not Bush's flashlight...

I hope a Democrat wins, and it's not Lieberman (because he's secretly Republican).

i think the american people are smart enough not to elect a democratic president in 2004. since the senate and house are primarily republican, a democratic president wouldnt get much done. but apparently democrats like that

um ICBM, you need to realize a few differant important things:
1) Clinton was democrat with a republican house and senate. e got a lot done (though he could've done more, but that was HIS fault)
2) Having all rightwingers means this country heads in one direction very fast, and many of us are afraid of what will happen because of this.
3) The republican house and senate can be voted out in 2004.

Make that WILL be voted out! ;)

Unless they put something really funky in the water, GWB ought to go down as the last Republican president that was (n)ever elected...

or something funky in the ballot...

Actually, statistical studies have shown that Presidents historically have managed to get more bills they supported through the Congress when it was controlled by the other party than when their own party controlled Congress. The theory is that when no party controlled both the White House and the Congress, both parties saw the need for compromise and were more willing to work together than when a lopsided government tries to ram bills, appropriations, and judges through to sharply turn the country farther to their side on the political spectrum. Besides, identifying more with the Democrats, I assure you that having a Democratic President with a Republican Congress is far superior than having a Republican President with a Republican Congress. There is that Presidential power called the veto. :hammer:

Come now, sultan... are you saying that all republican presidents are bad?

Not even I wish for another democrat to not be elected as president. The two party system allows a balance to our nation.

I think it's best suited when one party has the presidency and the other has senate or house. one dominating all of them is just scary.

I agree with you on that, sween, a one party legislator/ presidency is kind of scary, even if I am a republican.

well, when democrats dominated all of them in 1992, republicans took control of the media... thus stopping universal healthcare. Let's see if Democrats can do something along those lines...
