Light In The East: Civs Of The Orient(And Beyond)

Looks like even after both Regalman and I flagged the plagiarized mod nothing has happened.
Seriously, if they don't get their act together I am not buying Civ6, other people's and my work got stolen, our complaints are being ignored and we are being insulted verbally; and yet Firaxis does nothing.

You can't really pin the blame on Firaxis here, it's Steam who controls the workshop. Just be sure to buy Civ 6 on disc ;)

Can you file a copyright complaint (as owner's of the artwork)? Copyright complaints usually get more attention from companies than general complaints.

And if I remember the ToS for using the Workshop to host your work requires that you own the rights to all components. We can confirm this guy doesn't.

I filed a simple report, which was obviously ignored. I tried to file a copyright report today but it wouldn't let me because, guess what? Because I already made a normal report.

Same goes for Regalman, I suppose Leugi could file one too since he made the icons and improved my LH. That being said.... yeah, Leugi

I dunno, I might be in the minority here but I think the best option here is just to not care. This mod is fairly crap and has what, 29 subscribers to the real Sri Lanka's 4000+? And the majority of those are probably just annoying nationalist types like the 'author' so who cares what they think? If anything you could even see it as a bonus that all the irritating people who clog up the steam comments with their nationalist ramblings now have somewhere to call their own to keep them from bothering you. Kind of like the Bantustans in apartheid South Africa except less, yknow, disgusting.

The problem here is that it means that anyone can take any content they want, ignore the objections from the creator, insult them verbally and completely get away with it.
Which they have done. This one did not have success, sure, but what if it had gotten it?

then steam would probably be more responsive. I mean no offence but I'm sure the Steam dudes have bigger issues than an awful mod with 29 subscribers using unlicensed art. Its a fairly big community with probably tens of thousands of issues and reports per day. Besides, I really don't see this kind of thing being successful ever. There's a reason literally all the major mods on the workshop use original or properly licensed artwork. The kind of dude who would act this way is also probably not a dude who'd create anything worth playing.

My perspective here comes from the Banished mod community - there are tons of reuploads everywhere and nobody has done anything about it. It's a mess, and the game and community have kind of died since. Banished is nowhere near as popular as Civ, but it's something I'd hate to see happen to my favorite franchise.

I actually have an issue that if we start doing copyright claims we might start going down a slippery slope that'd set a bad precedent to things that may happen in the future.

Technically we don't have permission to use any of the songs featured in mods, for example.

I'm with Urdnot. I still hate the dude, but we can hate him without giving him attention.

Also, He could easily be a troll. He happens to be a Sri Lankan, who knows English, living in England, studying LAW of all things (because claiming he studies Law will apparently make him more believable in the discussions of stealing) and is a crazy nationalist and when translating his Sri Lankan message it makes no sense.

Yeah and a lot of us are being hypocrites. I made the leaderscreen for Senshi's Korea and its a dude from a korean drama. My infamous Theagenes of Megara (that sexy beast) was from a TV show over here in Britain. Palmyra's Zenobia used some dudes deviantart representation of them, i have credited him now though. I've never once asked to use the music i've put in my mods.

However, the people i take the artwork from will likely never see nor care about mine or anyone else's civ mods, since we're not profitting. Meanwhile, this guy has stolen your Sri Lanka mod in plain sight of you, where everyone who has made that mod can clearly see that their work is being used by someone else without their permission.
Rather then taking artwork from one community, editing it, and posting it in a different and unrelated company.... He took artwork from the same community, unedited and posted it in the same damn community!

And it's a different kind of profit to money that he's trying to steal, and that's the publicity. because we can all talk about modding for the pure fun of it, but we can't lie part of it is seeing the people enjoy our mods and have it appear on the front page of the Workshop

.... I have no idea where that post was going.

I think it's best if you just ignore him - we've presumably all brigaded the mod so much that it will never see the light of day again, and we can just do that the next time he steals someone's art until he gives up and makes some himself. I very much doubt he'll go very far in the modding world now that he's got this reputation - that should be punishment enough.

Julius Caesar's LS background is straight from Ryse: Son of Rome. The background AND Robespierre from his own LS are from Assassin's Creed: Unity. Hideyoshi's head is from a game called Nobunaga's Ambition - one of the more recent versions of it - made by same guys that made Samurai Warriors and colaborated with Nintendo on quite a few things - Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, Hyrule Warriors...

I think that save for maybe Pedro de Valdivia, I'd have to explain some copyright claims to game developers out there. And even then, dude's a pastiche of paintings, Civ 5 stuff, and pictures of places in Chile.

In regards to upcoming civs - are the OW collabo looking like possible releases? I know that Post-War Japan has a bunch of its art, as the UAE seems to have. Are they in need of Pedias as well?

I bring potential good news about Laos. All it was missing was a UU model of an elephant with a cannon on top of it, right? Well, apparently this Civ IV mod has it. If it could be converted to CiV, everything would be done, right?

You know, that Siege Elephant looks suspiciously similar to the Age of Empires 3 one...

Really? I've never played AoE3, so maybe I'm missing something, but to me it looks like the default Civ4 War Elephant but with a cannon.

I have no idea what to write for Troy's uniques, Pergamos and Hero. What is a Pergamos? And does Hero refer to Homeric heroes like Hector?

For Tunisia pedia, should it be about the Hafsids specifically? Or include the entire history of Tunisia up to the present day?
