LINES-World of Magic

Not that I care overly much since it is on a different continent from me, but isn't Logrus Vat (+10 mages to army, +2 mages a turn, +1 economy level, 0/5) a tad overpowered, specifically the +1 econ level. It takes four turns to gain 1 econ level, then 5 turns after that to gain the next one, if he invests in both the Vat and econ then he'll be Growing (4/4/5) in four turns as normal but Prosperous (5/5/6) the very next turn after that, bypassing four turns of needed investment saving him 8 econ points (4 that he doesn't need to invest + the 4 extra per turn he gets and of course he gets a four turn headstart on reaching every other econ bonus). That's in addition to (I am assuming) a one time bonus of 10 mages (1 more econ point) and another 10 mages every 5 turns.

Summary: The project is a 5 point econ bonus (I subtracted the cost from the gains to get the profit) that generates another 1 pt econ bonus every 5 turns and a four turn headstart on reaching every econ level (4 extra econ points per level before everyone else reaches that level). It could be just me but that sounds like a lot.

Alright to answer your question, Disenfranchised, i just made it up, but it is a cool name isnt it? I'll think about it. thanks for telling me what UU is.

Right. Math goofed up. I'll make it 7 turns soon. I've got to go to school now.
Whoah, more powerful than I had thought. Thanks for the analysis. I wasn't thinking of the feedback - how about I change the economy boost to "Double spending on the turn it completes" (4 points) or something like that? I wanted a spending boost, not an huge economy inflater.
Those were rather a problem in Das NES I - III too, now that I remember...
Suggestion for Lord_Iggy: Don't allow projects to increase economy levels. Instead, have them create a reserve of spendable points.

Let's see, chaos magic? What do you want its bonuses to be?
Well, like I mentioned in the story post: Entropy, undoing, and growth. Let me try to cover them in depth. And I'll use MtG cards, because I like MtG.

-Entropy: All things eventually age, crumble or die. Elgovian mages can speed this process up with judicious application of their magic, and small quantities of Trafe are a great help in this.
Example: The enemy is building a wooden stockade. My mages can cause it to rot.
Example: A mountain pass where there would eventually be a rockslide. My mages can make it happen when they like.
Representative cards: Rain of Salt, Unearthly Blizzard.

-Undoing: Chaos tears down instead of building up. It never completes large-scale projects, but is more efficient at destroying other magic or constructions.
Bonus to offense vs. fortifications, malus to defense w. fortifications, blocks enemy magic even if outnumbered slightly.
Representative cards: Detonate, Builder's Bane.

-Growth: It is a truth distasteful to some that all growth bases itself on destruction and theft. Chaos, carefully channeled, can restore or improve one thing, but always and only at the cost of another.
Example: Sacrifice captured wounded enemy soldiers to heal and strengthen my own. (No more of this wussy "we just fought, can't we rest now" mentality!)
Representative cards: Control of the Court, Implode.

Allright this is what Vault of Souls is:+2 UU every turn,3 construction turns
The Vault of souls is a great altar on which holds all the souls of the nation or those killed by it. It is from it that the necromancers of Dur-Khaz draw their power to resurrect the dead.

Sacrificial Altar.Daemon Pit.Chaos Temple.Necropolis.Black Citadel.Nevermind these radom chaotic words.

@Erik (and Iggy)

In fact all those 3 types of effects you mentioned are all direct manipulations of entropy - either directly increasing it in an "ordered structure" (such as in your entropy or undoing effects, which seem to be pretty much the same thing) or taking something/someone elses "order" to reduce your own entropy in your growth.

So your magic could be summed up (for the first page) as Entropy Manipulation: Magic users can increase the disorder of their oppenents structures whilst decreasing their own.

@Dragon13

You don't get to choose construction time, You give the effects then Iggy says how long it will take (for balance!). Also you haven't said what your UU is yet :)

Actually, I personally know dragon13. I asked him to join NESing, and he did. I gave him the construction time. And his UU will be the Spider-Rider.

Cool.

Anyways here is a story (part 2 of a three part one)

The arrow shot past, just inches from where his head had been as Koormis slammed down into the dirt of the river bank. The young Guardian who had shoved him down was quite hefty, and Koormis felt his old bones creak. They lay on the ground whilst the rest of the squad returned the attacks shots and chase him off into the low bushes. A while passed, and Koormis grew irritated and began to rise.

"If you would get off me you overgrown brute!"

"My apologies Elder one" said the man, standing quickly with a hint of fear in his voice.

"Do not berate the man Koormis; he was only trying to protect you as he had been tasked to." Interjected Versilimos, wandering up. The young soldier, happy to have Koormis's ire redirected, made himself busy some distance away with the squads packs.

"Yes protect me! Not crush me into the ground!"

"Don't you have more important things to worry about? Like how three sets of raiders found us so easily, and always unerringly go for you, me or one of the apprentices?"

"Yes, someone is using means beyond mere men to spy upon us. I have been feeling it all day, but it is very vague and unfocused."

"And you chose not to mention this, why?" replied Versilimos, barely restraining his anger.

"I wanted to see if it would reveal itself more, and anyway I have command of the magical aspects of this mission."

"Yes, but I have overall command - and when one of these savages we’ve been fighting for months spies on us via magic, I want to be told! Immediately"

"I will deal with it come nightfall, when we set up camp" Koormis said as he turned away, ending the conversation.

Koormis carefully positioned the four young priests assigned to him around the campfire, stooping as if to have a kind word with each while the sun set. A soldier approached the sorcerers circle in the middle of the camp; young but with the scars of many battles and a thick sealskin tunic that left his arms free to operate the great bow he had strung on his back.

"You asked for me?" said the soldier with some apprehension.

"Yes, Canifor isn't? I'm told you have the sharpest eye, and straightest flight, of any of the soldier here"

"Yes elder" Canifor replied simply, no false modesty about his one.

"Well we'll need both tonight" Koormis said, then more quietly, leaning close to the man, "Go back to your fire, then later position yourself some ten yards behind me and make as if to settle in for the night. But, keep your bow strung and an arrow notched under your furs, and watch me then closely. On my command I will want you to get up and loose a bolt past me, you will know were to aim it!"

"I understand elder"

"This is the most important thing you are to do tonight - no matter what happens, keep watching me and wait for my signal"

It was fully dark now, and none moved in the camp apart from the sentries and the five priests sitting and chatting around their fire as Koormis lectured forth on some trivia matter. It would have taken a very keen eye indeed to spot the strange movements their hands performed from time to time, sometimes clutching, sometimes pulling and knotting, as if they sought to weave the immaterial.

Suddenly, one of the sentries let out a cry.

"I see something - out in the dark! No, two thr-" his alarm being cut short by something large and heavy knocking him down.

"They are on all sides!" Another sentry, on the far side of the camp called out.

"What are on all sides?!" Roared Versilimos, rousing quickly, already donned in his armor.

"Tornassuk!"

Versilimos frowned, "the great white bears the savages call "the one who give power" -here?" he thought to himself.

"Koormis! What is going on? Why are there so many? And attacking us with all our fires?!"

"Some local shaman has bound them to his will!" Koormis answering cry rang out "You must hold them off!"

"Well do something to stop them then!"

"I am doing something! You must keep them at bay for as long as possible!"

"Useless old man! Men! To arms, take spears and bows and form a solid wall! Let no man fall to tonight!" He turned and grabbed a spear of his own and raced to fight the menace. The light of the raised torches revealed hundreds of the beasts milling out in the dark, and Versilimos felt the cold blade of fear infiltrate his bowels.

Koormis sat back in place by the fire, closing his eyes to drive back all distractions. He willed his senses outwards, and felt the edge of the universe; the realm of magic. He could feel the shadows of the fighting men and beasts on the skein of reality, and also the magical bindings that drove the bears on; they were of a different type to what he was used to, and he wasn't sure if he could unpick them easily, luckily that was not his quarry.

Ah ha! There, circling in the dark! A binding similar to that which tied the minds of the attackers, but more complex and bound to a small bird. Koormis chuckled to himself - he had been sure whoever was orchestrating this would have wanted a ringside seat to the slaughter.

Koormis stood and flung forth the web of clotting time and space he had been weaving all night. The bird; a great white owl from the look of it, was ensnared and pulled to the earth, back towards Koormis as he wound in the immaterial rope. As the other priests caught sight of the bird, they too stood and cast their nets and drew it to the ground.

The owl was soon suspended between the mages, staring at them with more than avian malice in its eyes. Koormis took up the chant of invocation, echoed by his apprentices, as they pushed with all their might at the fabric of the universe that connected the bird and its master.

"By my need and power and will and sight,
Let what forces aid me upon this dark night,
As starry depths be crossed,
And times deep well plumbed,
Let what is and not touch and mingle,
Let a door be opened and a new day cast!
That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange aeons even death may die!"

By the second repeat, they could feel the skin of the universe push back, and where the owl had been, a circle of a place which was not here could be seen. The window looked onto the interior of a small hut of ice, such as the savages were wont to build in winter, some how standing despite the summer heat. On it a small and wizened savage sat, naked except for a filthy loin cloth, and covered in hundreds of scars cut in the shapes of animals. Most of them were of the crude bears he worshiped but there were numerous birds and seals as well.

The ancient shaman opened his eyes and croaked a few words of the savage tongue. Koormis, his ability to see the underlying meaning of things enhance tenfold by the magical trance he was in, could see the current beneath the words easily.

"So, you can see me now? What of it? You will still all be torn limb from limb by the powerful ones."

"I can do more than see you, you ignorant beast" Koormis haughtily replied "Canifor! Now!"

The archers bolt nearly clipped Koormis ear as it speed to its target - the shaman’s heart! The thud it made as it burrowed deep into a bloody hole filled the entire camp with a moment of stillness. As the old man slowly leaned forward in defeat, the tenor of the battle changed - it was not an army of men against and army of monsters; it was men against beasts, and confused and lost beasts at that, soon running from the fire.

Koormis sat and rested in the dirt for a while; he had dodged enough arrows for the day.

I know it may seem weird why im posting all these short messages, but im trying to get over 50 posts so I can change my avatar, cause mine kinda sucks right now.( hey this is the longest post i've written so far besides the template)

dragon13- The MOD, in this case Lord Iggy, controls all NPC nations (Non Person Controled). Each player controls the PC (Person Controled) nation that they chose. Generally, NPC nations are not as powerful as PC nations ('generally' because, sometimes, PC nations will be given alot of power temporarily). You may want to read a few older NESes in order to get an idea of how they function. Since Lord Iggy is basing alot of this off of "StkNES5: A New Lease on NES" I woudl read that one, or at least the updates and some of the rest of it.

GEE WHIZ, YA DON'T SAY! :cringe: :wallbash:

Please don't educate me about what my own things do. Got that? :gripe:

I know perfectly well what my magic does. If you want to label my use of Chaos magic as "Entropy manipulation", I'm going to label your magic as "Telechronomancy/Apostelemancy", just because using big words to restate someone else's post makes me look smart.

Well, you did. And badly. The reason for it was that I had first provided an overview of my magic, followed by several sub-points, and then you went and summarized it again for me, only with "Entropy" substituted for "Chaos".

I removed part of my flare-up in the last post. Let's put this behind us and have a nice friendly war, OK? :p
