LINESII- Into the Darkness

Yes, although I had to delete a few secret NPCs to make space for you.

Awww... Well, thank you very much for doing it. I'll try to make sure Kelios is worth more than the highest number of NPCs you could have deleted.

Possible story coming tonight. I'll wait for the new thread if you make one tonight.

I think I'll open the thread once the stats are done. I also don't think that I'll update next weekend, to get a bunch of work done on my Social Studies work.

Oh, and the Sky Gods are basically charitable, they return every calendar cycle to observe their people and leave them with gifts. Practical things, artistic things... etc.

The Sky Gods are the Highest of Beings, the Tuatha de Danaan, the People of the Sky. They return once every cycle with gifts for the powerful who have earned their favour. Through their prophets, we have learned these gifts are meant for the strongest of the Tuatha, and only the strongest will receive the gifts. There are many gods in the Tuatha de Danaan, the mightiest being the allfather Dagda, with his numerous sons. Among them are the War Trainer, Scathach, and the Painted Warrior Segomo.

You do not know these Gods? Are you not Gods yourselves? Perhaps you will know them now you know their names, for surely they inhabit the same realm as you.

*thumbs up to LittleBoots*

For the record, the cycles are 287 years, give or take a few months. Just in case anyone asks.

@Dark - But of course :p

@Iggy - Thanks!

OOC: The Sky Gods are whatever Iggy says, but the Tuatha prophets may interpret what they believe in different ways and with the long periods between the visits of the Sky Gods, there is much time for doctrinal deviance, especially in a country where the Gods visit personally, so organized religion gives way to fanatical shamans. Personally, I'm really liking the way Iggy set it up and can't wait to see what happens as even I have no idea what they truly are, but my people have their own explanations (which is the majority of our theology)

We are not gods, merely emissaries of the allfather, whom we call Eldos, and you call Dagda. The allfather works in mysterious ways. He has chosen us to travel amongst all the peoples of the world, observing them and trying to better all of them, not just some of them. The only way for all to be bettered is for none to be worsened; and war inevitably worsens some, which is why we preach pacifism.

It has come to it now. The end of my life. I have not lived to see my dreams fulfilled, though I have hope and faith still that the Kehex people will triumph. The Queen Emerita, they call me, and my detractors call me the queen who failed her duty, who gave it over to her son rather than rule herself. Well, now my son’s rule will be legitimate in their eyes. Now I pass…

Thus, in the year 1291, came the end of Larias Mayanas, Queen Emerita and once-Queen of Kehexou, long before the occupation of Kehexou and the signing of treaties that would both achieve her goal and deny it.[1] But the Path of Larias Mayanas, as she had been known, was not over. A Kelia woman had fled from her husband’s beatings into the mountains above the city of Keliosir. She had not accepted aid when it was offered, and now she was pregnant and bleeding and near both birth and death. And just as the final darkness of death took this unnamed woman, her body forced out a crying, wailing, blood-covered baby who now had no memory of her time as Queen of Kehexou.

Garis was a foundling girl, discovered next to her dead mother by one of the Guides.[2] He had brought her to the House[3] and there she was raised among the dozens of orphan children and children whose parents were too poor to feed them. The Guides took in many of these such children and raised them to the teachings of the Path.[4] Some would become Guides themselves, while others would leave the House and disperse throughout Kelios. The Path was different for each individual.

Yet it was obvious from the beginning that Garis would become a Guide. She was naturally inquisitive; she thirsted for answers to all the difficult philosophical questions practically from the day she learned to speak, and sought to understand the core differences between the Path and the Path of Knives and Plows,[5] and why both might be correct together. She displayed a finesse for coming up with answers to all the thorny questions her teachers and Guides could throw at her. Some called her a prodigy. All knew that she would, one day, understand more of the will of the Path than all of them.

”What is the Path?” she asked one day, long into her education. It was a question rarely raised even by Guides themselves, and a sign of her increasing maturity.

“The Path,” the Guide began, “Is the road we all travel. In some ways, it is a will for good that works in this world, but sometimes the Path manifests itself as evil. However, the Path leads ultimately to a world of Perfection,[6] and it is because of this that we seek to guide all to the Path, that the goal of the Path might one day be achieved. Does this answer your question?”

There was a pause while Garis considered the possibility. “No,” she stated, after a moment, “It does not. You have told me of the Path, and of the Guides, but not what the Path is. Does it have a will? Does it govern other wills? Is it controlled by other wills? Have does it manifest? I could ask more.”

“You are hasty, little one, but I will answer your questions. The Path has no will. It is not a thing or a being, as many others religions try to describe it, and characterizing it as such is the flaw of such religions. The Path does not govern wills, nor is it governed by them. It sits outside the world of human endeavors as a beacon of hope for Perfection. It manifests in all actions undertaken, for all actions will be somehow a part of the Path.” At this, he rose “And now, Garis, you have other lessons. I know you could teach calligraphy yourself, but it is your duty to attend. I also have things to attend to.” He followed Garis back into the indoors of the House.

[1]Larias was far too old to be alive by the time Khemri attacked. She also abdicated in one of my stories before last turn.
[2]Priests of Alse.
[3]Monastery-temple of Alse.
[4]Alse is “Path” in Kelia.
[5]The Path of Knives and Plows (Kelia name pending) is a philosophy very similar to Alse that is also common in Kelios. It focuses on striking balances between all types of actions. Because it believes that violence is necessary to counterbalance nonviolence, much of the military follows the Path of Knives and Plows. (This is not because it is a military cult but rather because its followers are more inclined to join the military.)
[6]Perfection (Kelia name pending) is the “heaven” that Alse says will come at the end of the Path, i.e. when the world ends. All souls will be reborn until Perfection is reached.

Poor story, I know. I'm losing my touch at religion stories. At least this religion is fairly unique, I think. It's not nearly as Taoist as it sounds, if you look deeper.

Also, Garis is not going to be an important person. I just thought the continuity was an interesting idea, and it helped present the Alse idea of reincarnation.

@Cuiv- I liked it, its certainly a new take!

To the Shae da Dale
From the Tuatha de Tairngire

We apologize for mistaking you for gods. Your mighty ships and technology were thought to be magicks upon first sight, but we now see the error of our ways. We assume the others in your far land are not gods either? Do they know of the Tuatha?

I've been meaning to say some stuff, so I'll get it done now.

Some info on Pirian(current pop 90K and hopefully growing this turn ;]):

In the religion, Ardan is only below Veritas in terms of endearment. Mainly because Pire was born there and that the church dedicated to him is there. Not sure if I mentioned that his tomb was also placed inside the church. But anyways, alot of the Davian Pirians make pilgramages to the site to pray at the tomb. Those rich enough in Arcadia might do it once of twice.

The religion generally promotes peace, or "an eye for an eye", but depending on the location of the person it can be understood diffrent ways. Some say that it desires peace with all nations, others see it as demanding peace only with Oneist nations.

The Davians who left davar and settled Arcadia were all, conviently Pirian and fall into the later catagory. While you probably should worry about an attack from me (;]), I am (as a nation) refusing to deal with any nation that isn't either Oneist or allowing Pirian missionaries.

The Arcadians, at least a large portion of the population, are usually pious. They believe that Davar was destroyed due to the leaders seeking help from non-oneist nations instead seeking divine relief from the One- bringing about the lack of communications with the non-Oneist states. While they believe that the other variants of Oneism are incorrect, they generally get along with them- as years living side-by-side in Davar can prove.

As stated above, here we go:

To Norvalin
From Archbishop Caen

You have aided us in the past and we now offer to do the same. Allow missionaries into your lands so that the mistakes you preach can be corrected and proper worship be sent to the glory of the One.

To Nonitn
From Archbishop Caen

The One is, undoubtly, pleased with your desicion. With such we can insitute a three period turn treay of NAP- for now, with longer lasting ones if everything works out. We have no immediate claims to the lands that have been discovered, but we sure that we can all live in peace.

To Rascirai
From Archbishop Caen

We hereby- with open arms- invite you to feel the glory that is the One. We know that you are exiles, like us, who fleed form the collapse of your old state. We also know that you follow this "Bane". But we ask you to at least hear out the word- and then make your decision.

To Tir Tairgire
From Archbishop Caen

We advise you not to follow these Eldists. Do you not heard of what has happened to the nations to their homeland's north? They spread their faith into them and caused their downfall. Accepting Eldism is against the will of the One and will lead only to destruction. The only reason the Citadel survives still is due to its unholy pact with the Lengels.

We can see pebbles of truth that shine in your religion. There is a "sky god" in this world, and it is he who resides in the heavens above us. We know not about the other "minor gods" of your faith, but they can be attributed to human imagination. There is but one power and it is he whose is the One. Allow our missionaries into your lands and let the spark of the One truely flow.

To Chancatol

Greetings to you, lords of lands far away. We know that Tellus is a mere myth in your lands, something that is merely whispered about. But the land is real- along with its greatest achievement: our faith. Despite your distance to us, we can still send brothers of our faith to teach you the wise words of the One.

Mighty empires have risen under the One's faith- do you not want your people to add their names to that glorious list? Join the lists of Veritas, Davar, New Veritas, annd Tristaria and bask in the glory that is the One. But we must warn you- While those have yet to read the words of the faith are excused for their sins, those who read his word are not excused for their actions- and will be punished. Allow our brothers into your lands and bask in the holy glory of the One.

OOC: I'm the Jehovah witnesses's of this NES ;].

*Knocks on door* "hello! Would you like to try our faith today? It comes with free pie!"

Diplo pending... Need to check with Iggy to see if we have contact. If so, this'll be fun ;)

BZZZZZT!!! Iggy said you only have contact with the southern nations through me (post 5196). Therefore, I declare those messages never to have reached their targets. So there. :smug:

From: Citadel
To: Tuatha

None know of you as of yet. If you would like, we will take some of you back across the sea to our lands to see the peoples of our continent, if you will do the same with us.

It'll get there sooner or later ;]. Through I could have sent the letters privately, which meant the Citadel wouldn't know what they said. So I'll wait on Iggy for it ;].

Xil nik toropok kryten? Lax narab schixpen torv, corbok enteh shah. Pelz tyrfiz, dango.

The Tuatha will agree to this, though we warn you that the passage through our land will be very dangerous past the areas secured by Chief Connall.
Perhaps along the way you could explain more of your God, Eldos?

OOC: But Darkening is aware that there are people down here, yes? So conceivably he could send a boat? Iggy?

Our finest scholars shall explain New Eldism to you.

And do not worry for our safety. We have found that not even the most depraved will attack those who do not fight back.
