LizNES5: Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying, And Love The Bomb

Some of the pictures in the Bolivia post aren't showing :(

PS Dreadnought, did you consider using To Arms lyrics rather than the original Dixie lyrics? Always liked 'To Arms in Dixie' (confederate anthem/battle anthem).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bd1oA47Ti0I

I edited my orginal story to use those lyrics. I was debating whether to use them, but I think they are quite cool. Thanks!

Sorry Fellas, the update will be out tomorrow night, around 8-9 PM Est. I gambled I'd be able to get all the military junk done tonight, which I have for the most part managed to do, but I still need to edit a few things, decide upon the Person of the Year, and Event of the Year, among a few other various odd-jobs. So after school and work tomorrow, this shall be up!

Did you send orders already? Because I did for Bolivia, so I think I'll wait for update results.

To Ecuador
From Bolivia

Your unwarranted, unprovoked, brutal attack on the peaceful nation of Peru has not gone unnoticed. Your action makes you nothing less than a rouge state. We will not stand for this. We deliver you an ultimatum. You have 48 hours to withdraw all military forces from Peru and agree to pay damages or we will be forced to take action.

48 hours have passed. Your failure to respond has been noted. Bolivia will now be commencing Operation Avalanche , a peacekeeping operation to liberate all of Peru from Ecuadorian forces. The 1st Expeditionary Army is en-route now. A no-fly zone will be established as will a blockade on the Ecuadorian coastline. We ban all shipments of weapons to this rouge state.

Peacekeeping operations will continue until our goals have been met.

OOC: Karalysia, if you go to war with Ecuador, you will activate the defense agreement we have with them.

What is the point of offering an ultimatum if you immediately declare it null and void?

And, no, I will not stop until Peru is Ecuadorian. I have no intentions of moving past the Peruvian border, so you have nothing to worry about from me. Indeed you would be wise to foster a strong relationship with me that will lead to both of our nations prospering.

Lastly, I would like to remind you of my alliances with other powerful nations. Any interference in Ecuadorian affairs would lead to an escalation of the war and commencement of hostilities against you. I do not want this to happen, and am not seeking conflict with you, but ultimately the choice is in your hands.

To: Bolivia
From: USMA

Step down from your stance immediately. While I may not approve of the promised outcome of the conflict, and do not wish to see the annexation of the Peruvian state, your actions on this are unacceptable. If you want peace, do not escalate a war. At least they have a good reason for their aggression. But you? Just stay out of it unless you wish to be annihilated by higher powers.

To the South American Nations, currently in war
From the Confederacy

While we will not intervene (verbally or physically) into this conflict, we do wish to offer a helping hand, whether it be mediation or otherwise. However, this is by no means forcing and we certainly abide by the legitimate wishes of these governments.

To Ecuador
From Bolivia

As you are a the aggressor state the responsibility rests on your shoulders. As we said peacekeeping operations will continue until all Peruvian land has been liberated and Ecuador pays reparations to the poor people for Peru for the damage they have wrought. You may beg your allies for assistance if you wish, but El Comandante suggests you take your punishment like a man. Your allies may find some terribly unfortunate consequences will occur should they chose to intervene in your unjust cause.

(OCC: @Kara: Why did you delete your previous posts regarding Bolivia? It is making it difficult for me to respond to you since I have no background…)

Well.. It's kinda annoying, especially given what you are trying to do in-game.

But there is such a thing as an underhanded, cheap shot.

To: Bolivia
From: Ecuador

You call yourselves peacekeepers, but the world recognizes you for what you are. I warn you again, you will do well to stay out of the conflict between Peru and Ecuador. Ecuador does not seek conflict with you, but we will fiercely protect our sovereignty.

Don't start something you can't finish.

To Ecuador
From Bolivia

You attack Peru without provocation no better than a rouge state. We act with invitation by the Peruvian government whose forces fight side by side with us. Again we re-state our goals, full withdrawal of Ecuadorian forces from Peru, Ecuadoran reparations to Peru and acceptance of responsibility for the conflict. If you choose to escalate the war we will be forced to take further action to neutralize Ecuador's military-industrial complex.

Peaceful Matters in 1961 A.D.

The situation in North America, in regards to the Californian-Texas war, went from bloody, to weird, to just downright strange. After the Texan Republic's invasion of it's neighbor last year, a growing number of American nations began casting their die in with the Californians, to fight off what they viewed to be no more then a violent aggressor state. Sensing its fate, Texas completely reversed it's pro-war policy of last year, and instead, began caving into the Sitka-Quinto Cooperative powers, without so much as a shot being fired by both sides. The Confederacy, previously an ally to the rogue state, declared an end to the alliance, and all but threatened military action against the state for its wanton assault in the year prior.

The Texan government fumbled around with negotiations, to say the least, leaving most observers in the international community completely bewildered at the diplomacy (or lack there of) put fourth by the Texan government. Eventually, in the hopes of preventing more unnecessary bloodshed, the Confederate President, James Monroe Forrest issued the Columbus Accords, securing the independence of Texas (though, it's debatable as to wether or not it was ever in question), establishing it as a protectorate state, while it's territory was split between the Confederacy and California.

So while Texan troops were being escorted off of their lands by the hands of the Confederates to the tune of Dixie, and the Californians (to no song in particular), violent protests began erupting in the Texan state capital, over the grievous loss of land, and the humiliation of the nation as a whole. The Confederates and Californians have been fairly benevolent to their new countrymen thus far, with the Confederacy even going so far as to grant the Texans Confederate Citizenship. However a strong desire to return to Texas once more has gripped portions of the annexed populace, with a force calling themselves 'The Texan Ranchers' appearing, to fight for re-annexation by Texas. Thus far, they've committed some minors acts against the occupying forces, (see Military Events) but Confederate kindness has dulled down quite a bit of the hatred. Meanwhile, Californian troops fortify on the Rio Grande in the hopes that no such attack ever occurs again...

In Ukraine (or, the Ukraine, as locals have called it) a sort of infrastructural revolution started taking place. Railroads, ports and roads began receiving a massive overhaul, with more then a little help from their European allies in the west. German engineers oversaw new organization and construction techniques in the Ukrainian railroaded, along with teaching Ukrainian railroad workers better maintenance skills. Black Sea ports, one of the key components in the Ukrainian economy, also received a revamp, with their piers being extended to allow for larger merchant vessels to dock. All of these improvements not only gave the previously unemployed a job, but increased resource availability significantly. (+30 Ukrainian IP, ++4 Ukrainian IP)

The Sitka-Oregon railroad was finally finished in Alaska this year. The first train from the capital made its way down to the border this summer. (++4 Alaskan IP, +1 Alaska EP)

Keeping with this revitalization, the Alaskan Parliament started an entire infrastructural over-haul. As to what specifically they were going for, no one seems to be solid in knowing. But what is known, is various aspects of Alaska society have been touched by these improvements, be it metro-systems in it's 'cities', or it's fixed up shipping industry.

Indochina has been quite busy searching around its waters in the Pacific, and some as-of-yet undeveloped jungle areas, in hopes of finding some oil resources. During the searching, some oilfields were found, and investors jump into the fray right away. The government hasn't necessarily started funding anything past the initial exploration, but some companies have already began production, with General Indochinese Oil starting what seems to be almost a monopoly on the lucrative business. (+140 Indochinese IP)

In the Netherlands, a transportation overhaul, alikened to what Indochina and Alaska have been doing, began. Inter-municipal transportation for public use (and as some say, many of whom are critics of De Vries, urban defense) has been among the most emphasized points of the project. Large portions of the project are finished in the Netherlands' European territories, while progress has begun to be made across the Dutch Empire, in Africa, Suriname and the Pacific.

With a war still going on in Central America (see Military Matters), Gran Colombia had attempted to invest its money into fixing up the Panama Canal. But upon a bombing raid on it's very first inspection, the leaders of Gran Colombia have instead deemed oil drilling operations on Lake Maracaibo a bit more appropriate. And they've struck it big. By the end of the year, Gran Colombia has managed to set up several refineries on the lake, bringing in a steady source of income, and a good job opportunity for Colombian laborers. So long as Oil continues to be a major fuel source, that is. (+1 Colombian EP, ++7 Colombian IP)

Turkish missionaries have been busy at work in Romania, Serbia and Greece, attempting to spread the Islamic faith to anyone willing to give them a chance. More often then not, they've been given the cold shoulder to would-be converts, though this may change in the next year, should the Turks continue with their plan to fund Mosques in the region.

Education reforms in the German Colonial school system has led to a large number of teaching jobs across the Reich to offer themselves up, and of course, a slightly more 'Germanic' native population.

The Bank of Britain has received another funding boost. In the last year, it has essentially become the defacto bank of the British Empire, causing some to cry 'Socialism!', and others to well.. not really cry anything. This boost has allowed for the bank to open up some new locations across the Empire, though not much else.. (++3 British IP)

And as Britain's banks are becoming Centralized, so is its energy industry. A British Energy Company has attempted to nationalize the entire energy industry into this one company. New mines, oils rigs, power plants, and factories have begun opening up around Great Britain, and in it's Oceanic colonies of New Zealand and Australia. This giant merger has definitely raised some eye-brows in Parliament, and put sections of the British workforce out of a job (many looking for employment in a new Bank) though the immediate economic benefit is expected upon completion. Wether or not this economic boon will last is the question of the day. This project as of now remains unfinished.

Russia has also begun a massive nation-wide Energy Project. Increased drilling and production of oil and other natural gases have come from the Russian government finally tapping the massive resource reserves under it's control. Oil, coal and other metals were found throughout the massive nation, and production has already started with haste. Russian exports have also begun, even entering such far reaching places as West Africa, the Malagasy Republic, and of course it's neighboring Soviet Republics. (+1 Russian EP, ++5 Russian IP, +50 West African IP, +50 Malagasy IP)

The 'Industrial Quota Act of 1961', in New England, has led to an increase in wartime production. Expensive luxuries, such as televisions and cars have all been essentially halted, in favor of the production of things such as tanks, and planes. Speeches made by politicians, and famous New Englanders have led to large scale conservation of precious resources, such as food and oil across the country. Needless to say, this has overall helped a bit with the war-industry, though it has left more then a few house-wives grunting in annoyance. (+60 New English IP, ++1 New English IP, -New English Happiness)

Riots in Africa from last year have continued into this year, with Togoland and Chad being the prime 'troubled' spots. The increased German presence in the colonies have kept some would-be rioters out of the way, though it seems to of enticed others. French forces in Chad as a whole, have found themselves rather unsupported and outnumbered.

Keeping with it's economic projects, Britain has also put money into refitting stores and other revenue making buildings across the Empire. (+15 British IP, +1 British EP)

More Dutch businesses are investing in the development of the Congo. With the offer of government loans to businesses willing to set up shop in the region, a flurry of economic activity has erupted in the otherwise undeveloped colony. (+1 Dutch EP)

A slew of Western European diplomats visited the Ukraine this year, with Dutch Prime Minister Christoofer De Vries being among the most prominent figures. Trailing his giant ego, was an equally large amount of camera crews, and reporters. Among the things he spoke about was the 'Spirit of Friendship', between the Ukrainian and Dutch people, and the evils of communism. Needless to say, talks with President 1960B, of the Ukraine have been fairly amiable, if not downright pleasant. Halfway through the talks, however, the Ukrainian people began wearing their shirts inside out 'to protect from Western Curses and Infertility', something De Vries found particularly interesting, and hilarious.

Heinrich Kauffman also visited the Eastern European nation, with a majority of the transportation ministry to help the Ukrainians with rebuilding their otherwise lacking infrastructure. While not nearly as publicized as De Vries (in all fairness, it's hard to be as publicized as De Vries) Kauffman was met with an equally happy people. Many Ukrainian's, thankful for the help of the German Transportation ministry went to far as to celebrate Germany's 'victory' over Denmark, with the Prime Minister.

Iberia's ambassador to Ukraine was also met with roaring fanfare, and added a much needed boost to the Entente's pro-capitalist agenda.

While De Vries was not busy charming the entire nation of Ukraine, he was busy being the chief force of negotiations with between Germany and Denmark. In exchange for some land around Kiel, Denmark received some reparation money for the 'unwarranted' German assault, and popular elections were to be held in much of Schweslig-Holstein, to determine whether or not the region will turn German or Danish. The results, were split, causing Germany to gain some more land then it had hoped for when signing the peace accords, and the Danes keeping some land they otherwise would have lost. (+Danish, German, Dutch Happiness)

And with the recapture of Kiel, and much of Holstein, Prime Minister Kauffman was more then happy to hold 'Mission Accomplished' parades through much of Germany, going so far as to declare the day the peace accords were signed a national holiday. (+ German Happiness)

Japan too, celebrated in a similar manner, the armies military superiority over the Chinese forces they thoroughly thrashed in the Chinese War. The virtues of the Emperor (among which, is infallibility) were extolled to a great extent, with a rising air of nationalism, and anti-communism becoming present in Japanese society.

Trade ties between Japan, and several 'western' nations were also rekindled this year, with Japan taking in a lot of new Iberian customers. (+20 Iberian IP, +30 Japanese IP)

In California, a new dam, called The Sinclair Dam (after the Californian president Upton Sinclar) was built on the Colorado River, in the hopes of providing energy and power across California, which it has more then done since it's completion. Economically, the dam has brought in a lot of extra cash for the Californian government, still low on funds since the Californian War, along with extra jobs for the returning veterans. (+1 Californian EP, ++4 Californian IP)

The Romanian and Greek Communist parties have gained some support this year, though the powers of rule still remain fully with their current government.

A giant plane factory was built by the Fairchild Aircraft Company this year, in the city of Rutland, New England, with the hopes of successfully reinforcing any depleted fighter squadrons from the growing war in the region (see Military Matters.) This factory has indeed helped a bit, and has created a few jobs in the process, though with a majority of the New English populace marching off to war, this is relatively unimportant. (+40 New English IP, ++1 New English IP)

The Far-Eastern Soviet has seen some increased industrial production. Yet, no one knows why still. (++1 IP)

Representatives from Australia and New Zealand petitioned the Britsh government this year for Dominion Status. The results of the conversation are, as of now, unknown.

Iberia began holding several wargames in what was Portugal, and over the Atlantic Ocean, in the hopes of increasing their militaries fighting experience, and, well, to flex a little muscle. Experience was indeed gained, though you can't match the experiences in battle, with the artificial experienced gained in war games. Iberians were impressed though. (+Happiness)

The aging Iberian Merchant Marine began receiving some government loans to refit itself. This was just the boost the traders of the Union were hoping for. With new, modern ships, and better kept ports, Iberia began experiencing a over seas 'trade boom', something not seen in many years. (+1 Iberian EP)

In the midst of New English assaults on it's neighbor, the Martime Provinces, Canada has announced a No-Fly Zone over New England... (see Military Events)

India began refitting its factories this turn, in the hopes that it could produce more, with (hopefully) less labor in the future. With the probability that the Indian population will jump a bit with any annexation of Chinese land, this was a good plan in theory, and some industrial gain was met. Without any major government funding however, this plan didn't go neerly as far as it could have, or can. (++3 Indian IP)

The United States of the Mid-Atlantic enforced a trade embargo this turn, on the nations of Germany, Texas, New England and China. This seems to be a purely symbolic move, with those previous nations recieving few Mid-Atlantic Goods, in the wake of the wars they're currently involved in (see Military Matters). However, a shortage of some supplies was felt in Corpus Christi and Hamburg. Seeing as they themselves are going to war with New England this turn, many in the USMA congress agree that a declaration of embargo against them is redundent also. (-3 German IP, -4 Texan IP)

Parades took place in Instanbul this year, to celebrate the founding of the Union of Islamic Nations. Several fighter squadrons few by the parade, as two entire divisions of Turkish soldiers marched through the streets. (+Turkish Happiness)

Scientific Matters in 1961 A.D.

The Sitka-Quite Scientific Cooperative between the nations of Ecuador, Gran Colombia, Mexico, California, Oregon and Alaska was established this year, with all nations putting fourth money to fund scientific research in a number of fields, giving them what seems to be a fair advantage in the world's technology race.

In an attempt to rebound from the Texan War, California has continued to fund it's CASA program in Hawaii, with with Californian president promising to have a man in space sometime soon. The project just needs some funding, and it very well may go through.

Cultural Matters in 1961 A.D.

Christoofer De Vries is at it again. It's better to be Orange then Red, after all, and the Prime Minister has again allocated Dutch resources into Public Service Announcements warning the common people of the Netherlands against the hateful disease that is Communism. Wether it's going to the post office to get some mail, or simply watching T.V., posters and advertisements will make sure you know the true threat that Communism is to your daily way of life. While some of De Vries detractors has cited this as nothing more then a scare-tactic cheaply employed by the Prime Minister's supporters, it sure has led to a large body of men and women ready to strike at the scourge wherever it may appear.

In addition to 'spreading the word' about the Communist menace, a pro-military campaign has sprung up in the Netherlands also. After all, should the Red's come marching in, who are the Dutch people going to rely on to save them? The Germans? No. A large standing army is a large cornerstone of the De Vries administration's foreign policy, and the people seem to be all for it. A group of volunteer 'soldiers' has arisen, calling themselves the Dutch Freedom Guard (or Vrijheid Guard van Nederland) have begun drilling in parks and forests, with little more then hunting rifles or broomsticks.

Military Matters in 1961 A.D.

Active patrols in the Congo, led by the Paramilitary Congo Administrative Authority (or the PCAA) have led to the capture of several would-be insurgents, after several shots were fired. The status of the insurgents are unknown, as are their affiliation.

The military situation in Peru escalated this year, as El Comandante, leader of Bolivia, allocated an army of liberation to aide the Peruvians in their war against their aggressive northern neighbors, Ecuador. Bolivian air superiority missions, coupled with aid from the remaining Peruvian airforce quickly left the Ecuadorians reeling, as white phosphorous and napalm rained down on to Ecuadorian infantry and armoured units still driving into Peru.

The relatively uprising assaults on the Ecuadorian airforce was soon reinforced by a land assault along the coast, from combined Bolivian-Peruvian forces. Wildly outnumbering the Ecuadorians, while maintaining air-superiority, the Ecuadorian forces were systematically pushed back, with Bolivian forces eventually crossing over the border, fighting the Ecuadorians on their own home turf, for the first time since the war started.

The Bolivian navy, along with the Peruvian Navy set out to prowl the Pacific, searching for Ecuadorian ships, but the Ecuadorian navy was pulled north, and eventually east, to protect the Galapagos. A few stray single-ship actions were taken, and the Bolivian navy took some minor losses to strategically place Ecuadorian submarines, though, their new Aircraft Carrier ended up sweeping all major naval resistance fairly quickly.

With the war going so poorly in the East for the Ecuadorians, their forces did manage to crush an enclave of Peruvian soldiers on the border with Brazil. A slow retreat to the north however, prevented any major exploitation of this victory, after all defending the homeland is more important then conquest!

Central American forces mutinied this year, after taking severe aerial and naval bombardment at the hands of the Gran Colombian military. Low public order from the get-go of the war, eventually gave way in the wake of mounting military losses. With the Canal seized, a second front opened, all while being surrounded by non-interested nations, it seemed relatively pointless to fight on. The tense political situation that created the unnatural Republic, eventually gave way, as entire divisions simply surrendered, in the hopes that their lives after the war will be better then their previous one.

Gran Colombian forces moved in quickly, to secured town after town, more often then not being treated as liberators instead of conquerors. However, their is a general agreement that the Colombians aren't going to be welcomed, should they decide to stay for too long. Already, resistance groups have appeared in the jungles and mountains of Central America, striking at the occasional Colombian force. Past that, diplomatic talks have begun.

(Gran Colombia: -3 Divisions, -1 Armoured Brigade, -1 Fighter Squadron)
(-The Republic of Central America)

The Confederacy began sending aide to the Caribbean Republic to fight the Communist Menace. Aerial support, along with a strong naval presence have led to the 'recapturing' of much of the Windwards. Confederate fighter aid, at the same time as also incensed some of the local populace, leading to a much larger and general rebellion on Puerto Rico proper, with some minor movements beginning in Southern Cuba. Various islands in the Leewards completely declared their support to the revolution.

Another Carib destroyer was destroyed this year, though this time, it was torpedoed off the coast of St. Martin, raising some questions as to who exactly destroyed it, as certainly these rebels haven't managed to get access to Submarines.

As the number of rebel groups increased on Santo Domingo, several have crossed the border into New English territory, causing for some natives in the outlying territory to actively support the revolution.

(New England: -5 IP)

New England found itself encountering a more and more volatile situation this year. The United States of the Mid-Atlantic kept true with its promise of armed intervention this year, striking into New York in January. General John Vector led several divisions to the north, hugging the Great Lakes essentially, and assaulted Buffalo and Rochester successfully. Forces to the south, led by generals Jeremiah Brooks and Andrew Taylor pushed into New York from Pennsylvania, with the goal of capturing as much of Central New York, and New York City as possible.
General Taylor's forces entered the outskirts of New York City in early March, though by that time, New Englands corp of engineers had successfully turned the city into 'Fortress New York'. Heavy casualties from initial assaults on the city left Taylor back pedaling, and a council of war quickly put to end any hopes of a direct attack on the city. A siege, after all, is much more manageable. Remaining forces stretched out towards Boston, taking over significant portions of Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Central New York also fell prey to the assaults, though some counter assaults on behalf of the New English forces prevented a massive breakthrough. New English bombers assaulted much of the Mid-Western territory of the USMA, striking at the cities of Detroit and Chicago, though the Canadian (enforcing a No-Fly Zone) and USMA airforce quickly put these attacks to a stop. The effect on war-time industry was felt however, putting several key factories out of service for a few weeks.
Fighting in Nova Scotia continued, with New English forces gaining the upper hand early on in the year. Perhaps the only thing that kept the Maritimers fighting was naval and aerial support from the USMA forces, and the promise of eventual victory. A massive naval battle between the combined USMA-Maritime Fleet, and the New English navy occurred off the coast of New Foundland, as New English ships decided to bomb the island, in a show of military might. Air superiority eventually led the USMA-Maritime forces to carry the day, with the remnants of the New English fleet sailing back to Boston for repairs, in the hopes that it will live to fight another day.

Though their toe-hold on the mainland has put them in a relatively weak position, and if pressure on this front continues to the extent that it has in the past year, Maritime forces may be stuck fighting the war from New Foundland, should the New Englanders find a way to continue it.

Later in the year, Canadian bombers struck at munition factories in Vermont and New Hampshire, in revenge for New English strikes against Detroit and Chicago. Despite some victories in the Nova Scotia front, and a few militia units joining the fight, it's becoming increasingly obvious that New England has found itself in a tight position.

The fighting between Chinese forces, and the forces of the Coalition of Asian States slowed down this year. Within months of continued operations in the north, and a sweeping Indian attack in the East, the Chinese government all but collapsed under the strain of the actual fighting, and 'other influences'. Those being, of course, Socialism and civil unrest. Protests, led to riots, which led to full on revolution in Beijing, as government soldiers refused to fire on the rebels. This ultimately led to the Chinese President's olive branch towards the CAS powers, in exchange for aid in putting down the revolution.

And so, the CAS powers acted in cohesion, striking at areas either in revolt, or threatening to do so. This killed a lot of would-be communists, though arguably created more. Beijing was jointly occupied by the three powers, while the Chinese army worked closely with the very same soldiers that were trying to defeat it just weeks before. The western most areas around Kashgar remained a hot-bed for anti-CAS activity, though they swore off relations with Socialism and Communism, puzzling CAS strategists.

Groups of Communist or just general Nationalist Chinese forces have taken to guerilla warfare in the countryside, causing a messy, and bloody situation to say the least. These groups seem to have stayed away from South China, and South West China, instead focusing their efforts mainly in the West and, or course, Central China proper.

A rebel group has appeared inside of Russia, calling itself 'the Russian Democracy Coalition' Their intentions are as of now unknown, past that they want to overthrow the current Russian Communist regime. Being that the movement is taking place in such a closed society, it's hard to tell how well the fight is going, but their have been reports of Russian trains, and other governmental buildings being sabotaged.

'Mother****ing Peace Maker'
DUTCH PRIME MINISTER CHRISTOOFER DE VRIES
-written by Leonard Nemoido

This year, our magazine was faced with several possible choices for person of the year, and found it incredibly hard to really decide on who would take the honor home. But, as the year dragged on (emphasis on dragged), De Vries proved himself to be above the other candidates, if only slightly.

You see, De Vries is a one man wrecking crew. This is a fact. Born in Amsterdam, he grew up in a fairly prominent and wealthy Dutch family, something he seems to flaunt at every chance he gets. His narcissism is only surpassed by the love of his country, and his hatred of Communists. And trust me, that is a lot of hate. Leading his nation for two years now, he managed to negotiate an end to the Danish-German War, visited the Ukraine to prevent it's fall to Communism, prevented wide-scale revolt in the Congo, fixed up the Dutch economy, and industry, gave South Africans representation in Parliament, all while producing more Anti-Communist films and other forms of media in a year, then the rest of the world combined (well, save for the Confederacy perhaps), all while being the coolest guy at any party in Europe. Even the ones he didn't attend. He swears like a sailor, is a womanizer, and has emotionally broken several of his assistants already, with the promise of many more mental breakdowns to come.

Being a self-involved jerk, with some ear catching phrases does not make you worthy of being the person of the year. All of those things, along with the ability to lead, and we mean really lead your people does. And even with all of his personal shortfalls, (he'd call them benefits) De Vries has that skill. So no matter how many rants he goes on, or how many of his secretaries he has sexual relations with, the Dutch Empire rests well at night, knowing that their wallets are full, businesses are booming, and guns are loaded, and pointing east. He is a

2. Confederate President, James Monroe Forrest Being a 'Good Ole' Boy', with amazing diplomatic skills is just one of his many talents. The other? Being all around awesome. After all, he annexed an area equal to a third of the size of his nation without firing a shot.

3. Japanese Emperor, Showa For an old man, he gets around. When not beating up on the Chinese (and other assorted Communist-affiliated groups) he tours nuclear labs. The Atomic Emperor has a ring to it, amirite?

Guerilla Machine Gun Post in Puerto Rico
THE COMMUNIST UPRISING IN THE CARIBBEAN
-written by Katja Purrey

Socialism and Communism seems to of always been present in several 'backward' regions of the world. Africa, Asia, and even Europe had it's own versions of the 'menace', to greater and lesser degrees of one another. But nothing seemed to effect that good old bastion area of Capitalism, North America. At least until the Caribbean Republic managed to alienate, and neglect its own populace. After years of police brutality, starvation, and economic shortfalls, the people of the Caribbean, however varied they may be, had enough. A group of Patriots, naming themselves the Carib Liberation Front began declaring independence from the failed republic last year.

At the time, it was no more then a hundred or so 'terrorists' hoping to foment some sort of nation wide revolt. Well, it wasn't until wide-scale condemnation of the rebel group, and military intervention from the Confederate States on behalf of the Carib government that the group became large enough to actually confront the Republican forces head on. Confederate air-strikes may kill as many of these rebels as they can throw out their, but when led by an idea, and idea that brings hope.. well, it's hard to bomb that. So long as they're fighting for a better tomorrow, and so long as foreign aid is received, it's the general consensus that the CLF will be here to stay.

2. The Columbus Accords Part of the reason that this didn't make it as number one is that, well, frankly, we don't even know what the f*** happened here. Seriously.

3. The Western Mission To Ukraine De Vries, Kauffman, a bunch of Iberians, coupled with a nameless President, and a populous amazed by western advances created a lot of memories, in a diplomatic meeting the history books aren't soon to forget.
