He rises!!!! - Cpt Ahab http://www.foxnews.com/world/2011/07/27/lockerbie-bomber-appears-at-pro-qaddafi-rally/

TRIPOLI, Libya – The former Libyan intelligence agent convicted of the 1988 Lockerbie bombing over Scotland that killed 270 people made a rare public appearance on Tuesday at a rally in support of Muammar Qaddafi, a "further reminder that a great mistake was made when he was released," British Foreign Secretary William Hague said.

Abdel Basset al-Megrahi, who returned to a hero's welcome in Libya in 2009 after being released from a Scottish jail after being diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer, appeared on Libyan state television wearing traditional local garb while sitting in a wheelchair at a tribal meeting in Tripoli.

Al-Megrahi was convicted in the 1988 downing of Pan Am Flight 103 that killed 270 people, most of them Americans, over Lockerbie, Scotland.

While announcing that Britian would officially recognize Libya's opposition governing council on Wednesday, Hague reiterated the current British government's fury over the freeing of Al-Megrahi after he was pictured the rally. Hague scathingly described the medical advice that led to the 59-year-old's release on compassionate grounds as "pretty worthless."

"The appearance of Mr. al Megrahi on our television screens is a further reminder that a great mistake was made when he was released," Hague said. "This was absolutely the wrong thing to do."

In some small twist of irony, this guy might just outlive Qaddafi himself. Amazing.

To quote myself from earlier in this thread:

The presumption for being released was that he was about to die. If he doesnt die for years and years then the people who released him are idiots.

Ayup.

I actually want this guy to live a very long time. It will teach the silly Europeans not to be soft on terrorism.

Moderator Action: Inappropriate. If you'd like to express your dissatisfaction with European policies on terror, you can do so in a less inflammatory manner.

He will probably replace Qaddafi, and the mastermind himself will die. Why are we letting everyone in on this conspiracy?

It looks like those of you offering prayers that God show mercy on this guy are getting the results you are praying for.

I might have jokingly said: God please let this guy live for a while longer because of all the forum goodieness it'll provide

Have to hand it to the big guy, he's got a sense of humour.

Just noticed how most of everyone voted for the last option.

It's like Murphy's Law in effect

If you release a guy because he's ill, he will become immortal.

Whoever was responsible for releasing this mass murderer was a complete idiot. Prostate cancer is one of the most indolent cancers. Patients can survive for years, even with widespread metastases, and even live a relatively decent life.

People still believe he was released because of his health? Interesting.

AS Mobbie did, I'll also repost my take on the matter:
I find it rather suspicious that he had to drop his second appeal to be released. It smells of not wanting to bring this miscarriage of justice out in the open. It leaves me wondering about deals being made. It doesn't make him innocent, but it introduces reasonable doubt. This is unacceptable.

This is not how justice is supposed to work. He should have stayed in jail and his release should have been dependent on the ruling off his second appeal.

Yeah, you comments are still not supported by any facts currently known.

Sounds like a job for a JDAM or TLAM. I am sure he is surrounded by a few other choice targets as well.

I know it sounds silly, but this also makes me want to think our exceptional efforts in Libya in trying to kill or displace Qaddafi may have some roots in the various conspiracy theories out there regarding collusion of certain governments on oil deals to get this guy released.

Dead men tell no secrets you know.

Well the US did fund, arm and train Osama BinLaden. Australia was the biggest oil for food violator, The UK (and US) was in bed with Qaddafi

Wouldnt suprise me if there was backroom deal made.

Omg, FF this is about as bad as those 'black helicopters that shoot white phos' nonsense you used to lament about until you realized how utterly wrong you were.

Give it a rest.

Ah says the army man who thought they were hydra or hellfire missles. Only to realise that because of there deceleration and strange curved tragectory. Yeah I accept they are mortar fired weapons now.

Seriously though I am also beginning to suspect it was incompetence rather then malice on the part of the US. Maybe the CIA was incompetent enough to have no control over the huge amounts of money and arms they poured into Pakistan. Oh well guess were going to be allied with those "freedom fighters" again.

That was the claim by the Scottish authorities, which few actually believe. It's more likely that there was either bribery or blackmail. It's certain that health was not the real issue, because no physician with a brain could possibly believe that prostate cancer is necessarily terminal. And if there was neither bribery nor blackmail, and the Scots believed in the claims of bad health, then it is worse in that the Scots are just stupid and gullible.

I was merely pointing out what options were available for helicopters that were in the inventory for ya there FF. And fwiw, i've seen some hellfires do some crazy stuff.

I agree that there is a big concern about who we are supporting in Libya and whats the future expectations of that support and relationship. But you need to realize that this isnt like Afghanistan was back 30+ years ago, and there are more than a few major differences in how this is being pursued.

Also, drop the 'we supported OBL' thing.....there just isnt any real support for that allegation......never has been.
