Main Download Information

Afforess, I think you may have missed my question with everything else going on. I have a question on the new model for resource depletion. If I have 2 of a resource hooked up will they both be depleting at the same rate if I am using them for just one thing? For instance, if I am building Stonehenge and I have 2 stone, will both deplete some or will just one of them deplete?

Also, a second question, if I trade a resource to another civ, does that resource deplete as they use it?

I think it is a random thing. Plus, I think it may be less powerful if you have more than one of same resources (meaning that it deplete slower because you are drawing from both or more of them).

I can be wrong so wait for Afforess to say something first before we revise it even more. It is already great as it is right now, I don't want to break this greatness :).

Congrats on the latest official release Afforess - huge effort and changes between 1.55 and 1.61. Hats off to you sir.

Out of interest, based on what you know about RoM 2.9, how long would you estimate it will take to release AND for this new version? I will be torn between cracking on and playing vanilla RoM 2.9 or being patient and waiting for the AND version.

As it stands now, the number of resources YOU own doesn't affect the rate of depletion. The total number of resources world-wide does. So both stone deplete at the same rate.

Also, a second question, if I trade a resource to another civ, does that resource deplete as they use it?

No, but that's a good point. If another civilization is buying a resource off you, their rate of consumption should be factored in too.

So, it seems that if you have more than one instance of a resource that it would be better to not "harvest" it and wait until the first one disappears before you do so.

At the moment, yes.

Humans know this, but AI don't when they need mines for hammers.
Planning on solving this? Leave it as it is? It doesn't matter that much since your modmod finally is reasonable :D.

I have two iron resources, that is why I'm interested in this discussion.

Not worth a patch IMO. I've already a got an update in the SVN to correct this, but I'm shifting toward 1.70.

Sure, it's a difference, but not really worth the effort to NOT build a mine on the second resource. You lose out on trading possibilities, and the increased probability of depletion is ~.01%. ;)

Like I said, I like your DR the way it is right now. So I can easily wait for next release for improved DR :).

Thanks for the discussion and especially for this stat. I was worried I would have resources depleting more quickly if I built improvements on them. It looks as if the increased depletion rate is minimal, but I will test it out to see if reality meets with expectations.

So if cottages will lose their 1 food in RoM 2.9 we have come full circle.

Too bad 1.61 had to be a Full d/l instead of just a smaller patch. To many ppl 120MB D/L is nothing. But unfortuantely there are still numbers of us who are Broadband challenged. We live with poor dsl or satellite dsl. It now takes me 40 mins to 1 hour to D/L the latest increments.

RoM 2.8 Lite took several hours. I've never missed the unloaded movies anyway. Eye candy and fluff they are, but D/L bloat to the BB challenged.

And no BB is Not available where I live or I would have it. No money in putting fiber or cable to the cornfields. <sigh>

Just an Alert; I've caught a CTD bug from my most recent Flexible Difficulty Tweaks. Expect a small patch in a few hours. Should be a painless 3mb, and save friendly. ;)

I added the 1.62 patch to the bottom of the OP. I recommend everyone download it. It doesn't affect saves, but fixes a potential CTD bug.

Anyone who downloaded A New Dawn after this point doesn't need the patch on the Main Post, I also have updated the main download package with the changes too.

If you are unsure which version you are using, start a game up, and hover over your civilization's flag, it should list the version number there.

Then you forgot to change the number from 1.61 to 1.62 (for the main download link title, I meant).

Thanks for the patch. Saw you included that Depletion improvements :). Hopefully that guy who had questions before is more satisfied than before :).

You are truly a superb modder in your own question. You are a part of the small cluster of modding stars on this forum :D.

Good Lord. I can barely keep up with you Afforess :P

Your set up is bad then, MP works fine. To be sure, delete your ROM Folder, reinstall 2.80, then the patch to 2.81, then install AND 1.61 with the Recommended MP settings. Copy your Rise of Mankind folder to any other players. Then play. ;)

Fortunately I live just around the corner from the guy I play MP games with, so I've packed up to CD the Rise of Mankind 2.8 and 2.81 patch (freshly downloaded) and I have downloaded AND 1.61 plus the 1.62 patch.

When I get there I'll unpack the RAR files and install AND 1.61, that way we will both have exactly the same files. My only question is, for the MP element of the game will I need to install AND 1.62 or will that only effect single player options?

Thanks for the help so far. ;)

1.62 is really only a SP patch, but you might want wait an hour or two for 1.63; I've fixed two more crashing bugs.

Ok, I can wait.
