Many Leaders Game - Discussion Thread

i never use SE econolmy so maybe i'll give this strategy a try.

If were going Phi-CE and Fin-SE then sign me up as Wang kon of Specialist economy! if you ain't then, Darius of CE.

Pholh - please sign me for a tale entitled :

"Pacal and his flowerishing countryside"

I want to get the best out of this CE.

I'll give MLG7 SEvCE a miss but I'd be interested in humiliating myself in an immortal MLG8 (how sad is that).

@pigswill:

I will be sponsoring MLG 8 - so how hard can it be then ;) ?

Re MLG7: The debate about Ce vs SE seems interminable. It might be interesting to add 'no tech trading' to see if that makes a difference.

New to the format, but it sounds fun. I'll play.

MLG07: A Race to Space
You’ve heard the all the arguments, read the 9,000 threads devoted to them, and spent an entire week playing one of each just to see for yourself, but now we really will know: which is better, the CE or SE?? [cue dramatic music]

Rivals: 6
Difficulty: Monarch
Map: Fractal
Size: Standard
Speed: Normal
Victory: All Enabled, but you need to win via space.
Variant Rules: You must run either a straight cottage or specialist economy (which means NO cottages).

I'm open to other restrictions as well, but would like to keep it as open as possible, while controlling many other things. In that vein, I *may* turn off Barbs and events, thoughts on that??

and i'd like to start this towards the end of the week if that's okay with the rest of you.

Does cottage economy require absolutely no specialists then?

In reality, most games are some form of hybrid. Will that be captured?

And much of it will still come down to who does the best job rushing the nearest foe or two at the bestest time.

Still, I might give it a watch.

If I play (unlikely, sorry, what a loss), I would rather that the CE could have 1 city running specialists, but not producing a bulk of research, and the SE should have a cottage city for cash (Oxford not allowed). Liz will dominate both as the CE with this though.

Not saying I absolutely want, but if a Monarch player wants an SE spot, I will gladly give it up. I also might change leaders, but I'll do that near the end of the deadline. If anyone wants Gandhi, have him. I might go for Suleiman or Pericles. Or Suryavarman to see how much the Baray does. The thing is, he isn't Phi.

Hey, Pholk, could you perhaps find someone willing to play Phi/Ind to see how overpowered this would be? I am not sure if traits can be changed in WB, but as a mod it would be easy!

Well if it's alright with our mighty Leader I will go cottage economy with a seaborne twist playing Hannibal.

Basically a pure cottage economy supplemented by going for Cothons + Great Light House and maybe even Temple of Artemis. Feels very consistent with a cottage economy & I will just pray for a coastal start.

I'll take anything CE. If we're doing financial only, I'll take the Dutch.
I think you missed me... but considering I have yet to catch up in MLG6, I wouldn't be totally surprised.

Is CE no specialists, what if your city is over population, do you have to put your excess in citizens?

Citizens provide 1 hammer. So CE's might have better Production then SE's....

I'd like to see a clean competition between those 2 economies.
Means no specialists ever, not from wonders too, for a cottage economy.
They have to be deleted.

okay, roster updated.

further, i have no opinion right now as far as No Specialists ~ though perhaps you can run specialists but never use teh GPs they generate  or maybe the player can never run specialists in cities, using the food to grow ASAP (or whipping), then only allow the city governor to allocate the specialists to consume the excess food. i don't know ~ quotey's idea might be worth a try ~ other thoughts from the gallery??

finally, the most hybrid the games will get will be whether or not specialists are allowed. as I said, to see them each in their best form is what i'd like to have this game be about, so if we think that for an SE to be BEST, it needs to have a cottaged capital, then let's do that. conversely, does the CE need to have a GPF in order to be at its BEST??
