Welcome to the discussion thread for the Many Leaders Game series. The premise of these games is simple. Everyone plays from the same starting save but as different leaders. They are designed so that you can observe how others play the game and hopefully are a good learning tool.

This thread is designed to be the gathering point for information on upcoming games, sign-ups for those games and general information about the series. A somewhat concise history of the series can be found in the second post.

As new games are conceived, they will be announced in this thread, usually 1-2 weeks before the games start. Once this is done, sign ups for that game will be accepted in this thread. We have used a limit of 16 players for the most recent games and this will probably still be the case for future games, although extra (or even less) may be accepted by the sponsor. Preference will be given to those who have completed previous games but the sponsor has the final say as to the composition of the roster. Once the roster for a particular game is finalized, a thread for that game will be opened and a “no more sign-ups” post will be added in this thread.

Each game will have its own rules and regulations regarding reporting, deadlines and game comparisons. They will be in the game thread but may be discussed here beforehand.

If you have an idea for a game (or even would like to sponsor one yourself), post in the thread.

As stated above, the main use of these games are in learning (and teaching) different tactics and ways to play the games. They are not to be taken too seriously, have fun and learn more about Civ IV. :goodjob:

So why this thread?

Well as you may have noticed in the second post, there are two upcoming games. MLG5 is accepting sign-ups now and MLG6 (run by Ralph_Jackson) will be doing so as soon as MLG4 finishes (more details to come).

So if you fancy having a go at MLG5, a one city challange at Prince, sign up now. There will be a maximum of 16, with preference given to those who have played a previous MLG. No problems with being in both, as long as you can devote the time to them.

:bump:

MLG 5!
What else?

Sorry for the Nespresso commercial copy

Well, an OCC can't be that time consuming, can it ? Signed up !

I'm definitely in for OCC! Sounds like lots of fun. :)

Any teaser as to the OCC victory we'd be aiming for?

Well let me just outline current thinking on MLG 6.

It will open in a week or two as MLG 4 The Cultured Monarch winds down and I am keen to retain the learning element of the MLG Series.

Currently I am thinking of (and welcome ideas)

1. Emperor
2. Aggressive AI
3. Big and Small Map
4. Normal Barbs

I won’t participate in the game as I want to concentrate on comparing people’s game and every Player will be asked (in the sort of way Greyfox asks people to MM properly!!) to include in their write up

1. How well they did with the Objectives they set in their previous report
2. What their objectives are for the next set and where appropriate why. Doesn’t need to be fantastically detailed (e.g. research aesthetics as has good trade value because AI doesn’t prioritise, trade for the Bottom end of the Tech path , keep JC happy, found 2 new cities, spread Buddhism to Asoka..)

Basically as well as reporting “what happened” in their set explaining why they changed their plan if they did and what their plan is for the next set. Apart from the fact that writing down what you intend to do in the next x turns is a good way of improving one’s own play (IMHO) it will genuinely let people taking their first steps at Emperor see how more experienced players plan ahead.

I will do the donkey work of assembling stats from each players’ saves and laying out the different plans that players are following.

So feedback gratefully received on all areas but particularly
1. Level OK (most people in MLG4 are cruising to a Monarch win so Emperor is just a sensible step up)
2. Win objective. Would people prefer the games to concentrate on a single Victory Condition with the obvious candidates being Space / Diplomatic as these haven’t been done in MLG yet or just win…

Ralph

Very nice game prospect, and where better to learn how to win on Emperor than in a MLG (on one's own errors ).

I would give up Aggressive AI as for me, but it's just because I'm rather fresh on Monarch. Looking forward to learn from it (it's a sign up too :D).
Any victory condition would be great, just play as good as you can :king:

Hey Ralph! Watch your words out! Someone may have a very dirty mind!

Well, jokes aside, I'm still out of time. But I'm subscribed to this thread to whenever this storm ends.

And Ozzy... As always, Mr. Fox is right. OCC on Prince? Spice things up! I'm not playing, so... up it to Immortal!

Acept my signup for both..... ;)

About MLG 5... a sugestion: why not OCC conquest win? It is pretty doable in Prince and we haven't targeted conquest yet

Settings for MLG 6 are fine by me... Agg AI will spice things up

The level is fine by me, and I'd favour Space as it'll be interesting to go all the way through the tech tree in one of these games.

I'd be up for the other MGL as well. These games have been a lot of fun. And the objective discussion idea sounds very good.

Agree with SP - think spaceship would be interesting as it's a fairly open condition and there's a very large number of ways to progress about it. And there's a lot of scope to see the different leaders shine at their own particular points?

I might as well give the OCC a shot and see how miserably I fail.

I won't be signing up for these next two as I need to cut down seriously on SGs, but i've got an idea for one, perhaps #7 [it IS my lucky number].

Cottages vs Specialists: A Race to the Stars ~ players would have to choose a leader and declare a cottage-spam or a farm-spam economy from the start. might be fun to finally compare the 2, and put the argument to rest.
