Mass Effect 3

Well that's just Bioware's or whoever wrote it wishful thinking. No oxygen = brain death = consciousness death. They might be able to juice it back up but the original Shep is dead.

Again, they can do what they want with their science fiction techno-babble. It's definitely the same Shepard. If you'd like, you can think of him as being in a very serious coma.

Mass Effect wiki has this line:

By By the time of the events of Mass Effect 3, Kaidan/Ashley has become a Spectre.

Source: Playstation 3 Magazine, UK Edition, June 2011, Issue 140

Interesting...

Sure, they can't just alter common sense and basic science with shoddy writing.

The PlayStation 3 Magazine's been a dubious source; they included information in their article that was also flat-out wrong. Kaidan/Ash being a Spectre would make some sense, but it can't be regarded as anything like "confirmed".

You can deal with FTL and you can deal with biotics, both of which are essentially magic, but you can't deal with the Lazarus Project? :rotfl:

I also know that's wrong but I accepted biotics (and by extensions ME drives) as their magic crutch or something to set it apart. This one is just wrong for the lulz of it. I guess folks couldn't deal with losing their Shepard, I personally think it would have been better.

Does internal consistency not exist in the armpit of the Balkans?

They could have written it better :p

Yes they used the mass effect as a enabler to the universe and rather well I might say, but this resurrection is just wish-a-*****-would way of doing it. It is something Kevin J. Anderson would do, explaining it away as space wizardry by elemental forces of the universe.

Of course they could've written it better. But it's stupid to complain about that particular element of the lore conflicting with the story and with gameplay and not admit that that's been part and parcel of the entire series, and that picking and choosing which particular instance to harp about is just so much onanism.

How does brain death affect the wiring of the neurons anyway? If it doesn't affect it too much then resurrecting the neurons will pretty much bring back the thoughts and memories almost intact.

That's what I do, I harped on MGS for it's ridiculous gene theories and even DX for conflicting emails in NY sewers. I was talking about consciousness, the original stream got interrupted and it is dead, finito. They could have just encased in him a ME stasis field and be done with it but I guess they wanted a convenient reason why you could completely remodel your Shep.

Without oxygen and being frozen in space for a while, wouldn't his brain have been pretty much destroyed anyway? I accept for convenience sake that its more or less the same person but Shepherd's loss of interest in going out with his ME1 LI is easily at least partially attributed to being rebuilt. Just like he can turn from complete Renegade in ME1 to Paragon in ME2 if you so desire.

How is that different from Shepard arbitrarily switching from Renegade to Paragon (or vice versa) within the frame of ME1 or ME2? That her body is rebuilt accounts for the fact that there were(n't) implants and/or biotics in one game to the next, but any sort of personality switch is up to the player and not explained by Lazarus.

Come to think of it, I have no idea why Ashley would become a Spectre. Kaidan makes sense, since he's supposedly the strongest human biotic in the galaxy aside from Jack and Shepard. Ashley though was just a soldier that Shepard picked up to replace a lost crew mate; there's no indication that she's some sort of prodigy like Liara or has an exemplary record like Garrus. Also, her publicly-known terranist views makes me raise an eyebrow on why the Council would pick her, but I guess she's still better than Renegade Shepard in that regard.

Because shut up. :p

New information/article!

A slew of Mass Effect 3 magazine coverage has been absorbed and summarised by the internet.

Non-spoiler information first, courtesy of NeoGAF.

Mass Effect 3 develops melee fighting and each character class will have a special move. An Engineer will use an Omni-tool fire lash attack, for example, while an Adept will throw people back and stun them.

In Mass Effect 2, powers were upgraded three times and customised at the top, fourth tier; did you want a wider impact zone or a more focused blast? In Mass Effect 3 a Vanguard can tweak Charge to first slam an opponent harder, then do more damage, then be used more often.

What's more, powers can combine - a Concussive Shot can work with Cry Ammo to freeze a large area.

In Mass Effect 2, enemies advanced on Shepard's spot of cover throughout the battle. BioWare will enhance this for Mass Effect 3, abolishing the use of a single hiding spot for each battle. And movement will be essential to tackle some of the new game's harder enemies, as Shepard manoeuvres, undetected, to a rear blind/weak spot to deliver the fatal blow.

The opponents Cerberus will throw at Shepard include heavy troopers with enormous armour and Assassins with the same biotic capabilities as you. There are also Phantoms who wield blades.

But, don't panic, this time Shepard can do a roly poly. Or a commando roll, whatever you want to call it. Among other new moves.

Stop reading now to avoid story and character information.

I mean it: look away.
Spoiler :

Your Mass Effect 3 squad will be smaller than your ME2 squad, which had 12 recruits. "We're focused on a smaller squad with deeper relationships and more interesting interplay in Mass Effect 3," Mass Effect overlord Casey Hudson explained.

"And we're bringing everyone back - every main character is in Mass Effect 3 somewhere."

Confirmed as Mass Effect 3 recruits are Garrus, Liara, Kaidan, Ashley and Tali (depending on if they're alive). Wrex sounds to be in the balance. Each character's equipment will be updated.

There are apparently no new romance options in Mass Effect 3. BioWare revealed that 70 per cent of Mass Effect 2 gamers weren't loyal to their Mass Effect 1 love interest. And this will have repercussions in Mass Effect 3.

Shepard has become an enemy of Cerberus because Shepard joined the Alliance. Why did Shepard do that? Because PrinceScamp Note: STOP TELLING US EVERYTHING HAPPENING IN THE DAMN GAME FFS!
Spoiler :
Cerberus is working with the Reapers
. Why? We don't yet know.

Throughout Mass Effect 3, Shepard will venture to the homeworlds the Asari, Turians, Salarians and Quarians. And, of course, Shepard will explore Earth, including a Seattle-Vancouver mega-city before and after a Reaper attack. Shepard will also explore Mars.

The scale of Mass Effect 3, BioWare said, will dwarf not only previous Mass Effect games, but also anything Unreal Engine 3 has been used for.

Well duh. For the reasons already gone over this is pretty damn obvious.
