Mass Effect 3

Mass Effect 3 has been pushed back to a 2012 release, and DICE is helping too.

BioWare threw this up on the game’s Facebook page:

Mass Effect 3 will be released in the first three months of 2012. The development team is laser focused on making sure Mass Effect 3 is the biggest, boldest and best game in the series, ensuring that it exceeds everyone’s expectations.” - Casey Hudson, Executive Producer Mass Effect series

The Belgian magazine CHIEF unearthed an interesting little tidbit about the ongoing development of BioWare's Mass Effect 3. It appears as if DICE (developers of Battlefield: Bad Company 2) are lending a hand in the development process.

In more exact terms, DICE is assisting BioWare with Mass Effect 3's weapons, the sounds they make, how they alter the environment into which they are fired, the details of how the projectiles fly through space and the distance the projectiles travel. In short... they're helping to make the guns fire good, straight and loud.

Mass Effect 3 is set to be released this holiday. Stay tuned next week for more details on Mass Effect 3!

DICE has good gun sounds. But since I've never played BF2142 I don't know what their impression of the sound of a futuristic weapon is. But projectile weapons still seem to be the standard anyway.

If DICE is getting involved, they better be implementing Co-Op mode, because that would be awesome.
No, co-op in Mass Effect would be stupid.

Also, they've made it clear that multiplayer isn't going to happen.

When genocidal machine-gods attack your homeworld your retirement might be delayed.

Oh, what do we have here ?
The head says Batarian husk, the stature says Krogan.

.

I don't think we've gotten confirmation on what that thing specifically is, but BW has confirmed the existence of Harvester husks.

Also, consolation-prize screenshot for the delay notice:

Gah, Kaidan. Give us Garrus, Ashley and Grunt screenshots!

You got a problem with Professor Zei, head of Anthropology at Ba Sing Se University?

I don't see what the gratuitous Avatar reference has to do with anything, though it is appreciated.

Actor allusion, I just watched "The Library", postcount, and yet another bit about how I honestly don't think Kaidan's as bad as you do. Besides, we have 2 Kaidan screenshots and one Ashley screenshot.

I'm really wondering if ME 3 is going to be dumbed down after that article (thomas.berubeg linked it)--if ME 3 is going to made for a "broader audience" expect the difficulty level to be a tad too much on the side of easy and the gameplay mechanics less complex and more "yay easy buttons to press". *facepalm*

Oh well, the delayed release means they at least care about this property more than the sham that was Dragon Age 2.

ME2 sold about as well as a videogame can sell, what "broader audience" are we talking about here? I wouldn't worry so much.

"Broader audience" is a meaningless sound bite that companies throw out to get broader interest in the game, not necessarily to indicate any substantive changes to the way the game works. Going from that to "oh noes low difficultees" is epileptic trees.

Ah, the old dumbed down fears...
ME 2 did away with a lot half-heartd "RPG" elements of ME 1, but it did't feel dumbed down for me.
Yeah, there's no more loot, but 99% of that useless vendor trash anyway.
Actually bioware has said there will be expanded skill trees and more RPG elements in ME 3, so no worries here. If the game is too easy you can always increase the difficulty level.

You say that like ME2 was hard.

You say that like ME2 was hard.

There's good hard and bad hard.
I haven't played ME2 that much, but ME 1 got just frustrating on the highest difficulty.
I like a challenge. I don't like being one-shot killed by a sniper I can't see and I don't like enemies who regenerate health so fast that they're fully healed if I don't hit them for five seconds.

Yeah, ME1 Insanity was just stupid. Either you turn every fight into a run-and-gun tactical nightmare, relying on Barrier and/or Immunity to keep you going, or you just press the Biotic Instant Win Button and still have to deal with a lot of crap.
You say that like ME2 was hard.
I think they hit a fairly good level with ME2 Insanity, but I wouldn't say no to an increase in difficulty.

ALSO

the internet is blowing up again over the new PC Gamer article on ME3, which includes moar information, including
Spoiler spoilers :
-Tali is confirmed squadmate
-No new LIs in ME3, and if you cheated, it comes up at the "worst possible time"
-Story is more like ME1 than ME2 (standard cliche bukkake)
-Every major character you have met will play a role in the last game
-POSSIBLY MISQUOTED (Priestly has noted this specifically): Why is Cerberus after Shepard? TIM is working with the Reapers
-Huskified enemies include asari, krogan, rachni
-Mars is confirmed
-Specific nfo on upgraded powers: Charge will be able to evolve further into low-cooldown, more-knockback, and more-damage variants, while Concussive Shot will actually become useful and have different effects based on the ammo power you're using at the time
-Going by the description of huskified krogan in the article, Mr. Four-Eyes up there is one

All of the screenies featured in the GameInformer and PSM articles, and PC Gamer wasn't even clear that the picture of Ashley was, in fact, Ashley (lol). They also had the old release date up.
