Mass Effect [Game Thread - Concluded]

Yeah, the problem was inactivity which always sends game balance all to hell.

You guys wanted me dead too badly, and then I got busy with IRL things and bored from all the inactivity and never said much. :(

I nominate myself for Town MVP, as I came closest to killing one of the mafia! :p

In all seriousness though, several townies played well: Visor, Jarrema, Yarpolk come to mind. Most of the town though was utterly inactive. Game balance seemed good.

Although nobody listened to him, Jarrema was the town's best player here, being pretty much the only one who gave us any real trouble. Visorslash, Kennigit (oh my god!), Takhisis and sprig also deserve credit for showing enough insight to make us sweat a little (except Frozen, who apparently has no sweat glands).
I knew you were mafia after you made that silly case on me, but I only managed to get back online after I had been lynched… town people making such bad plays as we saw are demoralising.

For example, why do people latch onto other players and somehow make it look as if there's a mafia duo there?

Askthepizzaguy (Commander Shepard)

Spoiler :

Ability: Commander. Recruit one person into your QuickTopic.

Spoiler :
Active Ability. You must send Zack a PM to use this ability.

Night Ability. You can use this ability during the Night phase.

Unlimited Uses. You can use this ability as many times as you want.

Miscellaneous. Pick a squad member from Mass Effect 1 to target with this ability, rather than a CFC user. [i.e. say "recruit Liara", rather than "recruit Zack."]

The idea here was for Shepard to organize a powerful town network, so that everyone could coordinate their abilities and work with each other. Of course, one of the possible recruits was secretly a mafioso, so there was potential for the network to be infiltrated. After enough Paragon / Renegade points had been accumulated, Shepard would gain increasingly powerful doctor / vigilante powers (doctor for paragon points, vigilante for renegade). Unfortunately, ATPG died before he could really assemble a network or gain powers.

Player: Red_Spy

Role: Dr. Chakwas

Faction: Town. Eliminate all threats to the Town.

Shields/Health: 10 / 50

Major Dr. Karin Chakwas is the human doctor of the SSV Normandy. She enlisted in the Alliance soon after she graduated from medical school, seeking "exotic adventure", though she quickly realized that military life was not as romantic as she had imagined it to be. However, she stayed with the Alliance in order to do her duty and serve humanity. Though she sometimes considers starting her own private practice, or going to work at a medical center on one of the colonies, she feels that "there is something special about working on soldiers", and believes she would be abandoning them if she did not stay. Like most Alliance doctors, she has taken courses in alien biology, enabling her to treat the non-human crew members, particularly Liara and Garrus.

Mafia Team PM

Spoiler :
SOVEREIGN

CwqPs7H.png

“We impose order on the chaos of organic evolution. You exist because we allow it, and you will end because we demand it.”

Players: spaceman98, Frozen In Ice, Winston Hughes, BSmith1068

Roles: Saren Arterius, Matriarch Benezia, Geth Prime, Geth Trooper

QuickTopic: http://www.quicktopic.com/50/H/qEwHjcbYNCC

Victory Condition: Sovereign (Mafia). Eliminate everyone not belonging to your faction.

Sovereign is the flagship of the rogue Spectre Saren Arterius. An enormous dreadnought larger than any other ship in any known fleet, Sovereign is crewed with both geth and krogan. At two kilometers long, its spinal-mounted main gun is likely capable of penetrating another dreadnought's kinetic barriers with a single shot.

The prevailing opinion is that Sovereign is a geth construct, while others believe it is a Prothean relic. Its design, however, hints at a more alien and mysterious origin. The attack on Eden Prime demonstrated Sovereign's ability to generate mass effect fields powerful enough to land on a planetary surface. This implies it has a massive element zero core, and the ability to generate staggering amounts of power.

Team Ability: Kill. Attack one player (base 150 damage).

Spoiler :
Active Ability. You must send Zack a PM to use this ability or post in the QT.

Night Ability. You can use this ability during the Night phase.

Unlimited Uses. This ability can be used every night phase.

Alternate. The same player cannot use this ability two nights in a row.

Stack. For each person using this ability to target the same player, add 200 damage to the attack.

Universal. There is no limit to how many people on your team can use this ability.

Shields/Health: 100 / 200

Saren Arterius, born 2139, is the longest serving turian member of the Spectres, the elite operatives answering directly to the Citadel Council. For 24 years, he has been an agent of the Council's will, a zealous defender of galactic stability in the unsettled border region of the Skyllian Verge.

Player: Frozen In Ice

Role: Matriarch Benezia

Species: Asari

Faction: Sovereign (Mafia). Eliminate everyone not belonging to your faction.

Shields/Health: 50 / 100

Matriarch Benezia is a very powerful asari biotic and spiritual leader among her people. She is also Liara T'Soni's mother, though the two have not spoken in years. When the evidence that proved Saren Arterius was responsible for the Eden Prime attack also proved Benezia was working alongside him, it surprised those who knew her, as Benezia's actions seemed to be completely out of character.

Good game everyone and thanks for hosting Zack.

The town still might of won if they had stuck to the plan of lynching Bsmith instead of e350tb, and Visorslash was on to us in general at the end. Visorslash what made you go after e350tb that day instead of doing your original plan?

Yeah, seeing all of the abilities that could have been used against us, and the ability for the town power players to network, I am amazed that the only thing that happened to any of us was Jarrema using his 25hp attack on me once.

I am even more amazed that we were able to pull off the sweep, especially as there was quite a bit of negative attention on us the last few phases.

Technically he used the 25 hp attack again last night.

Also, Mr. Moderator, this game is concluded. :mischief:

People seemed to want e350 dead more then BSmith, and I figured why not initially. When his response was exceedingly lacklustre I figured, why not. If he had just claimed, it might have been avoided.

Closing the thread is somethign that happens when you go over four thousand posts, not a mere four hundred.

400 posts? This has to be one of the shortest threads I've ever seen for a game this size.

It's an excellent set-up, very finely balanced. If we'd lost a scum early on, or if Shepard's network had got going, it could've been the town cruising to a straightforward victory.

Undoubtedly we had a whole lot of luck on our side. But I also think the nature of the win reflects on how we played as a team. We kept it simple and relaxed, trusting each other to make good choices. In the thread and through our kills, we focused on sowing confusion and pushing other people into the limelight. The town should've applied a whole lot more pressure on us (there were only 5 votes against us in the whole game), but part of the reason it didn't is that we made sure there was always someone else looking scummier.

Thank you for hosting this game, Zack.

As for my play... basically,I hoped that I can help town by revealing. I hoped that others will attac the target named by me, when I depleted its shields or make all damage inflicted double... It seems it never did any good. I only succeeded with using my 'individualistic' abilities, eg. ones when I did not have need for cooperation - attack on BSmith, and using my Barrier.

I would not susppet most of the mafia, only BSmith gave me bad vibes
