[NFP] Maya First Look

Mhrm, I wonder if they will have a strong plantation resource starting bias. It could make a large difference.

Seems likely.

Why do people keep saying she's an Amanitore re-skin? She literally isn't? Just because they both have pudgy arms doesn't mean they use an identical model. I also just checked and the animations are entirely new, not re-used.

There is one animation that appears to be quite very the same, as confirmed by Potworny. But apart from that I also didn't get Amanitore vibes from her.

guys, as far I understand this Observatory adjacency bonus:
XLkRcXf.png

2 bonus for plantation or plantations
1 bonus for each 2 farms
1 bonus for each 2 districts

Cornfields seem to be counted as farms, not plantations, therefore we don't have a case with two adjacent plantations. So it's hard to say if this bonus stacks or not. At least on information we got here.

The ability is linked to the city-states layout of real ife Mayans. What Lady Six Sky is known for? Managing to gather cities under her rule in a time where Mayans were just squabbling anf githing cities-States in an endless war. And her LUA perfectly represents that: cities near the capital are the Mayan cities-states that bent to the rule of Lady Six Sky; the other, too far, are still reluctant to obey her and so produce less for the Empire. It's a very nice way to represent a cities-states league. Lady Six Sky managed to controll independent cities of her culture, and I always saw cities-states in Civ VI as completely different cultures. Having LSS being able to control ingame cities-states would be the same as if LSS would have, in real life, a special ability to deal with North American or South American cities/tribes/nations, which is false.

Completely agree, I think It's the first time Mayans in civ feel like...Mayans, and not only calendar obsessed psychos. 10/10 on nailing the style.

Interesting civ design, will be fun to play. Not a big fan of how they have a fetish for making a lot of these leaders look fat and ugly though.

I don't know man, Mayan royalty tended to be depicted as a bit on the chunky side. The steele that has been posted here before, and that firaxis obviosly used as reference (if you look at the belt its the same) shows her as a bit overweight, or at least with quite some big flappy arms and broad shoulders, even more if you compare her to the poor sod being crushed by her.

Spoiler :

I went and double checked..I am however dissapointed the Obvservatory does seem to mantain the generic style of library and University (as ooposed to unique styles), and man is it a let down, I hope It's something they can at least patch and maybe improve for all civs down the road becase GS Unique districts to me at least, should be the standard, they themselves imposed on the game.

EDIT_ added stelee image.

Anyone notice the units didn't have Lifespan and Renown?

A reddit guy put both side by side and its the same animation and possibly the same body model too
There is one animation that appears to be quite very the same, as confirmed by Potworny. But apart from that I also didn't get Amanitore vibes from her.
Fair enough I suppose, but this is very minor. Hopefully the animation just wasn't finished at the time of recording the First Look.

Never settle Fresh Water with the Maya then, build Aqueducts instead.

You can still settle the Fresh Water, it just doesn't do anything.

Chandy already has that agenda. :p

He hates you for being next to him, not for being spread out yourself. He could expand into you and still hate you, because you're his next target. Lady Six Sky would instead leave you alone because you are no threat to her and she doesn't want your stuff anyway, so long as you aren't encroaching on her core zone or taking over the whole world.

I'd really like this change, flat yields should be something that you get from district adjacencies, rather than the buildings. I'd much rather have each district have a building that adds yield per population, and then another building that adds a percentage yield bonus.

Edit: Also to add to that, each district should also have a building similar to the Coal Power plant that multiplies the district yield bonus, so that way there's much more emphasis on actually having a district with a high yield rather than just spamming out districts with mediocre adjacencies. However we would still need something to penalize spamming more cities other than just a increased cost to producing settlers which will never be a meaningful deterrent.

May I direct you to the mod I made which does exactly this sort of thing? https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2085803602

According to how it is phrased, the plantation bonus doesnt not stack, only the farm one does. Doesn't matter if it's next to 1 or 6 plantations, you have 2 bonus science from that source. If it's stackable, great, it is decent, if it doesn't then this district is 100% weaker. You do not have jungle/mountain/reef/fissure bonus for this district, please read it again.

It totally stacks. It is programmed like an adjacency bonus, not a modifier like the "for being adjacent to a ______". It is pretty clear.

Since the maya focus on farms, you'd still want to settle on rivers so you can get water mill bonuses to your wheat/maize/potato/rice/whatever else is in the base game (I've been using resource mods so long, I forget which are from the mods...)

Seems likely now, but why would it be part of Apocalypse Mode?
I am quite dubious about that screenshot, cuz i dont think i've read where the source of that shot is (maybe I missed it). You can see a new emergency called Appease the Gods, which I think sounds like something from the new Apocalypse game mode, and somehow the renown and lifespan are nowhere to be seen.

She uses the same skeleton and animations, but that doesn't mean she's a reskin.
It's really not. A reskin is taking the same model and applying new textures or at most adjusting the model slightly. Skeleton ≠ model; skeleton is simply the "bones" that make the model move.
That's generally referred to as a "recolor." Nomenclature varies, but a new mesh on top of the same skeleton and animations is usually referred to as a reskin.
