Media BIAS

So your answer is you can't. I'm not saying it's not true, I just asked you to provide something besides your opinion.

Yeah i'm sure it's just a coincidence that corporations and oligarchs have a greater say in discourse both publically and privately, than the electorate.

I cannot help you Rah, you know the system is rotten and corrupt, held onto by tape, slowly leaking as the boat we are all on heads further into the depths, you can delude yourself and assume the system will continue to work but with the way things are going i don't think it is a sustainable idea.

Not any more, especially not with climate change.

I have to have some optimism about it because the only other solution is armed rebellion. And anyone that desires that is not rational, in my book.
I have asked three times for what your alternative is and you have yet to provide one.

So help be out and provide a workable solution that I can get behind.

The numbers are there and time will improve it. Hopefully faster than the other side can change the rules to solidify minority rule.

I cannot advocate for an armed rebellion...

But i can say it would be preferable to what we have right now; where those who possess take from those without possessions.

And anyone that desires that is not rational, in my book.

Are you really gonna make that statement without any qualifications tho? Can you not conceive of any circumstances in which armed revolution or just revolt would be rational?

What kind of American doesn't believe in armed resistance to tyranny?

I'm not willing to let that many die. You can bet that most that would die would be the have nots.

I have a limit, but I just don't think we're there yet. But I can see a chance of that happening. Trump losing and not stepping down would have me seriously considering it

I happen to agree. The first people to die in any kind of insurgency situation (aside from the actual combatants I suppose but they'd be a tiny fraction of the overall population) are the most vulnerable, the most dependent on complex services.

Given their failure rate and the way that most of those that have succeeded have turned out I think they have to be pretty much a last resort.

But if they are already doomed, the risk doesn't matter.

Small sample size bias. You have to look at the overall picture.

The media pretty consistently comes down on anyone & everything it perceives to be a threat to its bottom line in any capacity, best I can tell. Aside from that it mostly just has a hard-on for emotion-inducing stories that sell which is nothing new.

No points for guessing who some of the bigger proponents of pushing the link/meme tax in Europe happened to be. "Fake news" seems to have struck a nerve, particularly because just about every major news organization is guilty of it (and of being political mouthpieces of some set of causes rather than news organizations).

I have to have some optimism about it because the only other solution is armed rebellion. And anyone that desires that is not rational, in my book.

Right now that is true, but it'd be hard to make that case at different points in history.

At the moment armed rebellion is neither desirable nor practical. Things would need to get significantly worse first. Enough that a good percentage of folks in the military would be part of it. I'd prefer not to see that.

Not sure if you realise this guys, things are already pretty bad, maybe not for you, but for those without...

Yes, things were worse when I was younger. Getting old and comfortable. I've worked my shift. I leave the rest to the next crew.
But I'll support where I can.

And if we're going to get this thread locked we need a heck of a lot more posts and MORE ARGUING.

I don't think you actually realise that things are worse NOW, much more so than back in your day.

It might be better socially, but economically? It's worse.

There is no point in history where things aren't bad for "those without". What causes rebellions is when "those without" grow to sufficiently large numbers.

Setting aside the morality of allowing suffering and what "should" be done (a loaded question that's non-trivial to answer), this is the consistent observable pattern dating back to long before any of us were born, maybe add a few thousand years to that.

Probably only worse for non-college educated whites if we're honest. That's still a ton of people but still. There's tons and tons of jobs that simply weren't open to women or people of color back then.

You no longer can get drafted and sent off to Vietnam and have to kill people.
Each generation faces it's own challenges but yeah, things sure suck right now.
But I am fortunate to be able to retire with a decent nestegg (soon anyway)

Well, having landed in middle age and still grinding at the loans I've been grinding on for the last 15 years, still negative net worth, but starting to see the light, I still think I'd trade the money back down to Tostino's Pizza and ramen dinners for youth. And I get the sneaking suspicion should I be so lucky as to grind on for another 30 years, I would trade being in the black back for middle age. It's weird. Student loans are too much, we might need to actually push trade and nursing schools again hard. Seems like it's kind of already happening. Enrollments in LA&S seem down, applied seems up.

Well as long as you've got yours eh Rah?
When you've fought for the cause as long as I, you can rest too.
I hope you come up with plan to get something too. It need not be at other's expense.
