Medieval European Mod II 2016-10-05

You should get WinRAR, far superior to WinZip and i beleive you can get a trial somewhere if some helpful person would provide a link.:mischief:

IRRadiated
I tried again today, to be more specific, the message from winzip says it is not a valid archive. The file is not a completed zip file. It may be a spanned file. I did enjoy the mod very much. In a word ........HELP!

It is something on your end I'm afraid. I just re-downloaded the mod from and could open it without problems.

Does the file have 263 MB? If not, it's your internet connection dropping in the middle of the download.

Otherwise, it can be your archiving program. I recommend getting the latest version of IZArc, 7-zip or WinRAR (just google it). Though WinZip should have opened it fine if the file was downloaded without errors.

I'm still playing my massive game right now. I'm completely pwn-ing the world at the moment. I'm playing the Byzantines, and I've conquered the Hungarians, Serbians, Bulgarians, Venetians, Italians, Sicilians, Burgundians, Turks, Fatimids, Abbuyids (?), and am now at war with the Berbers. After this, I will "reclaim Aragon, Castile, Portugal, France, and Taifas in the name of the Roman Empire."

Also, I've been at war with the Kievans' but could only move enough forces to takes two cities, and fought against the Georgians, but captured no cities. :(

I apologize ahead of time for how stupid a question might be but here goes.

When I am trying to play this mod, I go to the civcontent section and click on MEM Europe(large). biq. It proceeds to load to 30% at which point I get an

Error Reading File
Missing entry in "text\Pedialcons.txt": ICON_BLDG_GW_Kingdom_of_England

I receive similar problems on many of the scenarios I download and attempt to play. Please help me in rectifying this situation. I would be greatly indebted.

It means you have not installed MEM, and those other scenarios correctly. I can't tell you exactly what you're doing wrong, but your Civ3 can't find the mod's resource files. Most likely you're making a common mistake and unzipping your mods/scenarios to its own folders, instead of doing it directly to Conquests/Scenarios. Or you moved some files manually, which should never be done.

A properly installed MEM (or any mod for that matter) should have both the scenario's BIQ files and folders ("MEM" in this case) in Conquests/Scenarios. Inside the MEM folder you should find "Art" and "Text" folders and some readme files (and NOT another "MEM" folder, for instance).

Embyo I noticed you can't plant forests in you mod. I tried to plant some some inorder to build a city on a tile in the tundra but was;t getting the icon (mybe it comes way late?)

ANyway this gave me an idea. Is it possable to make instead of 'plant tree', some other type of graphic that would be available after some tech which replaces 'plant tree' and lets the worker terraform the tile to make uninhabitial tile 'change looks' and become ready for settling

I was even thinking mining by 'chopping' (Ex: mountains paying out a one time sheild payout by strip mining Ex: blowing the tile improvement away(choppin) after you spent considerable worker resouces 'planting it' )

THis could be also done to reclaim desert for example. Make 'Plant tree' only available on desert tiles and have it look like a irrigated golf course suburbs lol
Ether way You would make the action take many many turns to factor labour costs and make the piles of endgame workers go to work

Anyway just wanted to hear your thoughs since I did fine without the plant tree option so I would rather see it come in lategame as a new terraform worker abilty to bring in some new element just for kicks.
What am I forgetting to consider?

This is exactly why it's out of the game.

Only by replacing all the forest in the maps with LM forest. But we already use the LM forest for Palms. Even so it can still only be on tundra, grassland or plains.

THis could be done to reclaim desert for example. You would make the action take many many turns .(i doubt it would work on water or mountains or hills right?)
No it couldn't. It's still the forest terrain rules that apply.

No it won't be done.
Since it will only work on the custom maps.
Since we already use the LM forest.
Since there's really no use for it, with it's limitations.
And since terraforming wasn't widespread in the middle ages. :p

Cool thanks. Ya embryodead already told me on this thread bout why the option was taken out. Its great idea for gameplay.
Still, This is how my idea came along thats why I mentoned it. ALso, My idea wasn't pertaining to just this mod per say, I wanted expert opinion on the idea of terraforming like civ2 with the 'plant tree option.' thats all.

Thanks for the feedback

I hope this thread isn't dead. It was really cool to read everyone's battlereports.
At the moment I'm playing my 2nd small European map game (after playing many random map games). I'm playing as the Byzantines.
After struggling  to keep up in the beginning of the game, I'm now equal :king: to the Tartars (always strong with a large Russian empire), the French (who presently occupy all of Charlemagne's historical empire + Poland and part of Ireland) and the Portugese (somehow the Castillians never seem to have a chance against them in my games).
Hope to post a few screens soon.
In the meantime: how are all you doing in your games?

@jetha
Well, it was going for a couple of months, not bad ;)

A new update will come out one day, was waiting till there's enough new stuff to include. Apart from new units there's some changes to wonders that I'm not sure of. So far it looks like it:

* Hajduk is now a Serbian (and Wallachian) Golden Age unit; Vlastela remains a bonus Serbian unit
* Pistolier and Sipahi no longer require Iron
* Guardsman added as a Russian bonus unit
* Civ-specifics Great Wonders changed to different Small Wonders to avoid problems upon their capture
* St. Sava's Nomocanon changed to SW that gives +1 happiness on the continent
* Radhanite Guild changed to SW that gives +1 happiness on the contient and +1 trade on each tile
* Culture bonus of Pliska Literary School reduced from 5 to 4
* Book of Durrow now becomes obsolete with Paper
* Bayeux Tapestry now becomes obsolete with Black Powder
* Hanseatic League now becomes obsolete with Far East Trade
* New Hajduk animation by Orthanc
* New Varangian Guard animation by R8XFT
* New Slavic and Rus flavor units by Sandris
* Fixed civilopedia link for Duchy of Tuscany SW

+ a graphic patch with Ares' Terrain II + Varwnos' cities

Jetha: I agree...battle reports can be quite interesting to read.

I don't have anything dramatic to share but my games of MEM are always interesting and they usually center around the Germans, who seem, along with Novgorod, to be the one constant (the Germans always expand and Novgorod always sits on its hands and doesn't move).

In my most recent game I stayed away from the European civs and am the Fatamids. I quickly secured the Levant and the upper Euphrates so that my empire looks like the ancient Egyptian, and then took over Libya all the way to the borders of Tunisia, where I ran into so many hordes of barbarians that I had to back off a bit and let the Sicilians move in. The Turks were pushy and we got into a struggle so the furthest reaches of empire became a backwater while we sorted things out closer to him. I stomped all their attacks, rejected peace overtures, then embarked on my long-prepared counter-offensive which stalled at their capital, just a couple units short of victory. At that point, exhausted, we both made peace. I also had two naval wars with Castile (no idea why they looked so far afield for an enemy!) both of which were inconclusive and resulted in roughly equal losses.

So no Germans for me yet and I've yet to hear any horror stories about the Tartars but I feel kind of isolated down there in Egypt. My armies are currently campaigning in the Iranian highlands against the barbarians, trying to settle that border so I can prepare a new attack against the Turks. The barbarians have been so numerous that I've ever had to commit my only army to the task.

I've taken some time to do a few other things and play around with other mods and scenarios but hopefully will get back to the game this week to see where it goes. Unless it's absolutely going nowhere I don't like to leave a saved game dangling.

Embryodead: the updates to the game sound good. I'd love to see the new Slav and Rus units and I had thought about slipping Varwnos' cities into the game. They'd look great.

My games seem to go that way too. Germany is overwhelming everybody in the game I'm play right now while the Tartars can't seem to do anything but loose. I'm playing 11c Europe so the cities are all preplaced. I was doing well as Byzantium until HRE, Scicily (doing pretty well), the-Russian-civ-other-than-Novgrod-whose-name-has-just-slipped-my-mind, Turks, and a few other civs such as Fatmids and Almoravids (who I'll mainly have to fight at sea) all declared war on me. :shifty: :faint: I tried to avoid it by dogpiling as much and as often as I could but the very civs I allied with turned around and got an alliance w/ another of my enemies against me. I'm pretty sure I'll lose several Georgian cities to the Turks as they are very powerful but I'll be lucky if I just get away w/ that. Other than that everythings going fine. :king:

In my most recent game as serbia i have conquered from spain clear across the map almost to arabia, i control all of the african peninsula, egypt, and am currently expanding against the franks, HRE and whats left of hungary after destroying the Italians, Sicilians and the Taifas(sp?)

The only thing worrying me now is the massive khazar empire that has absorbed Kiev and Novgorod and has a massive ammount of troops.

Only hope at this point is to secure all of my borders and mass all my troops at the border before they declare.

Screenies coming...:p

Dezzilisk what level are you playing at?

Emperor, i clicked it accidentally at the time thinking that it was the same as emperor in the standard game, turns out its the equivalent of DG

:goodjob: awaiting screenies...

Great response guys, thanks!

Embryodead: looks like you're really working here to make the MEM even better. Keep it up and thanks more than I can properly say.

Thanks for your battle reports all the others. The funny thing is that contrary to your experiences, in my game the Germans were routed as one of the first. They were overrun by the Danes, who in turn were severely cut back by the Franks. The French now have an empire approximately equal to Charlemagne's historical empire + Eire + Poland.

I'm glad this thread is still alive and ever more hooked to the MEM!
