Looks like a magnet levitating. That's my guess.

It's levitating via superconductivity. A magnetic levitation thingy would just fall off either side, but superconducting materials can be arranged so that they're in a stable equilibrium. The heavy ceramic slab is almost impossible to move laterally, but rotates frictionlessly. It's really disorientating actually, that you don't slow down after a while.
Yeah, I've been getting that a lot lately. I take it as a compliment. I'm going as Cruise circa Risky Business to a costume party in a few weeks. A Maverick costume would have been too expensive.
And to keep it legal, here is me with my new baby nephew.

That's one of the awesomest pics I've seen here in awhile! 
Thanks! It was quite a hike to the top of the "hill" over the town, made even harder by the fact that about 12 hours earlier I was in Miami (at sea level) and this was about 14.000 feet above sea level.
