All those finicky discussions about 'is this metal? is that metal' are totally beside the point.. it's like arguing about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin Everyone trying to prove that only HIS particular brand of metal is the one and only true metal, all others don't deserve the name..

Me, I'm 45 now and a metal fan from way back... started out on Deep Purple, Rainbow, Judas Priest ('not original'??? pfffffff....), Black Sabbath... rocked to AC/DC, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Savatage,... still rockin' today to all of the above, plus Iced Earth, Edguy, Nightwish, Hammerfall.
Plus many others I can't think of just now..

I sort of resent it, when so-called metal fans barely out of diapers, who've been listening to metal (whichever sub-type) for a bare 2 or 3 years, try to monopolize the genre and act as if they've invented it...
If you think this means YOU... it probably does!

I am also suprised to see the Ska genre (3rd wave)not being mentioned in the poll.Hell of a mix that consist reggae,punk,metal,rap,folk blues,and jazz.Of course i only listen to "The Mighty Mighty Bosstone" and "Sublime",not those stupid swing revivals.

Anyways, what do people think of the new breed of metal bands like Lamb Of God, Hatebreed and Mastodon?

Those 3 are bands i've gotten into recently (well i've always liked the first 2 but never gotten a CD till last week!)

I've heard some classical music that sounded like metal except without electric guitars. That said, I think metal is really just the most progressive and complex music at that time. You can call it trash, death, heavy, or whatever you want. A better question would be "what bands do you like", not to ask what type of metal you like. With a lot of people there are too many bands to list all with different styles.

That said my favs are trash (megadeth, metallica) and power (iced earth, pantera). Also some melodic death metal. AMON AMARTH

The ultimate metal band of all time hands down is DEATH!!!! Chuck is my atheistic god.
