Some bands that suck and are overrated: Judas Priest, AC/DC, Kiss, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Korn, Slayer, Tool.

Quite brave of you to label bands such as Judas Priest and Slayer "overrated". Have you really listened to all the albums they have released since the 70s and early 80s? You listed some bands you consider "original" - are you aware that you just listed the real pioneers of metal "overrated"?

Well I listend to System of A down, bullet for my valentine, Slipknot, Korn, In flames and Nirvana (the last one isnt like the others but is deam good on some soundtracks)

You can't use Dream Theater as an example. Many people don't call them a metal band.

I dont think there's any question about Dream Theater being a metal band. They are the most popular progressive metal band.

I've listened to enough, due to many of my friends being fans of these bands.

I didn't say that the overrated bands were not original. I would say that Judas Priest and Kiss are pretty unoriginal, though. Black Sabbath: probably original, but no good. AC/DC: not original, not good. Maybe the worst band ever.

My all time favorite band is: AC/DC, no one else compares.:band:
I could think of a few, Led Zepelin, Guns'N'Roses, Def Leppard, Warrant, and Aerosmith (the older songs).

Judas Priest: Some of their songs are OK, though I prefer others.
KISS unoriginal? I haven't really seen many other bands dress up with as much crap as they do.
Sabbath: I never liked them anyway (Ozzy too).
AC/DC: I've grown out of them.

There are many bands I dont like, but I dont claim they "suck" or are overrated jut because of that. They may just not be in my taste.

Judas Priest invented modern metal with their pioneering use of dual guitars and riffs. They are a hundred times more original than any of the bands you mentioned.

A lot of people don't think of them as a metal band, probably because they're not "heavy" enough and have too many progressive elements.

I love metal. It's the best music genre, ever.

My favourite bands are (in totally random order):

Slayer
Judas Priest
Metallica
Pantera
Iron Maiden
Black Sabbath
Tool
Motörhead
Kreator
Rammstein
Mercyful Fate
Dio
Megadeth
Hatesphere
System of a Down

The only thing original about Judas Priest is the shape of Rob Halford's head. He looks like Darth Vader without his helmet.

Can you tell me what bands sounded like Judas Priest before Judas Priest? I can't think of any!

How about the Allman Brothers, or Wishbone Ash? All JP did was take the Allman shtick and make it "eeeeviiiilllll!"

What genre would you say they are, then? I agree that some of their songs are pretty light, but on the whole they are distinctly a metal band. And there's no rule saying that metal has to be simplistic and unprogressive.

Perfect post.

I just wish I could reach a wider audience...

Does anyone else think that Dio and Slayer being in the same genre is freakin hilarious?

In other news. Dio sucks.

Progressive rock? I don't know anything about metal, except what people tell me isn't metal.

The music has a heavy beat and the guitars have that distinctive metal sound more often than they don't. So, they're a metal band in my book. And I really doubt that many people would deny that completely.

Dio rocks :) he's the metal grandpa you never thought you had.

Hey don't diss AC/DC! To sound that good with a singer that bad takes skill

Bets metal band ever in my most humble of opinions is Pantera. Best hard rock band has quite a few contenders.

I am a huge metal fan. Some of the bands I like... TOOL!!!!!, System Of A Down, Metallica, Pantera, Fear Factory, MACHINE HEAD!!, Arch Enemy, Iron Maiden, Amen....

Pretty much across the board, I don't hold myself to any one particular sub-genre. I basically view 'metal' as covering the spectrum from stuff like Nine In Nails and Tool to Korn and Slipknot including Nile and Hatebreed with of course Judas Priest and Slayer. Purists might whine, but get a grip, metal is a lifestyle and a broad music range, not some elitist club.

Dream Theater? Yeah theya re metal. Prog yes, but still metal.

Given the sheer numbe rof metal bands i've seen i'd say I know alot about the subject. Basically - anyone who goes on about certaina bands being overated and then goes 'bla bla bla DEATH METAL IS THE RULE!' needs a slap and probably secretly likes Linkin Park:mischief: (note: I only say this because I wish people would respect other peoples tastes)

Someone once told me that Iron Maiden wasn't a metal band.
And that someone was wrong, because Iron Maiden are THE METAL BAND

Seriously, if some told me to define metal i'd say go listen to Iron Maiden, Metallica and Pantera.
