Mid-Ocean Destination Pop-Up Menu

Is there any way to disable the pop-up menu that always appears when one's ship sprite is not near a shore.
Any time I travel away from a shoreline the game basically stops and this menu appears, offering a series of possible destinations.
Maybe this doesn't appear on higher levels, I'm still on the beginner's level, but not so new to the game that it would be of any help to me.
Now it's just a distraction that I would like to remove from the flow of game play.
