Middle-earth Mod

[BTS] Middle-earth Mod 0.4.1

So it is Monday and I'm here with the spread sounds.
I especially like the one for Beauty but not so much the one for Diligence  and made 2 types for Power, I think the second is better.
I wonder if you recognize the origin of the sounds :mischief:

For the Value icon itself, do you have a version of it without the circle (just the gem)? I think it would fit better with the other icons without the circle.
How about now?

I've got some updates:

I created new wonders' movies, you can find them in 'middle earth' folder. You should keep that name and place it in 'Beyond the sword-->Assets-->Art-->Movies'. Yes, you read well: not in the mod assets folder but in the original one. Otherwise it won't show anythings - no one knows why. In order to make them comparing in downloaded games you should create a .exe file, which automatically copies this folder into Beyond the sword (like other mods already do, i.e. Dawn of Civilization, PaE..). I don't know if it might interest you, just try by yourself and check if worths it. Another way is to ask users to move manually this folder after downloading. Also you have to:
  • Change the XML file: CIV4ArtDefines_Movie. I've uploaded the new one.
  • insert the Python file CvWonderMovieScreen into Python-->Screens.
both of them has to be inserted in middle earth mod as normally.

Also, i've changed the movies of the Eras, with appropriate middle earth images. Just insert this folder in 'Middle earth (mod)-->Asset-->Art. No more changes are required, unless I would like to create a 'First Era' Movie when the game begins, but I don't know how. If you (someone) want to spend some time in, it would be nice, otherwise cancel the '03- Reinaissance' movie which is useless. Only the first two appear actually.

Finally i've changed Durin Leaderhead background to make it appear more lore-related. It's just a first trial, I might do the same with other LH if it looks nice. Just change Durin folder with the one placed in Asset-->Art-->Leaderheads. If you don't like it, feel free to come back to original one.

always in dropbox cause my pc refuses to upload rar zip 7z and so on

Wow! Thanks!

I wonder what the deal is with the movies. I will do my best to solve that problem so they can stay in the mod folder. Maybe Leoreth from DoC or the C2C team knows. One Mod I have does movies and they stay in the folder.

Thanks for all your work!

Machinery
They do not and did not understand or like machines more complicated than a forge-bellows, a water-mill, or a hand-loom, though they were skilful with tools.

Marksmanship
“Arrow!” said the bowman. “Black arrow! I have saved you to the last. You have never failed me and always I have recovered you. I had you from my father and he from of old. If ever you came from
the forges of the true king under the Mountain, go now and speed well!”

Masonry
And it came to pass that the masons of the house of Finwë, quarrying in the hills after stone (for they delighted in the building of high towers), first discovered the earth-gems, and brought them forth in countless myriads; and they devised tools for the cutting and shaping of gems, and carved them in many forms.

Metallurgy
Then Manwë and Yavanna parted for that time, and Yavanna returned to Aulë; and he was in his smithy, pouring molten metal into a mould.

Military Strategy
There was a dreadful pass, Cirith Thoronath it was named, the Eagles' Cleft, where beneath the shadow of the highest peaks a narrow path wound its way; on the right hand it was walled by a precipice, and on the left a dreadful fall leapt into emptiness. Along that narrow way their march was strung, when they were ambushed by Orcs, for Morgoth had set watchers all about the encircling hills; and a Balrog was with them. Then dreadful was their plight, and hardly would they have been saved by the valour of yellow-haired Glorfindel, chief of the House of the Golden Flower of Gondolin, had not Thorondor come timely to their aid.

Good job! Keep up the good work.

Some of the really long quotes might have to be shortened, but I have gotten the idea of having the shortened versions appear with the quotes and the full quotes appear in the Civilopedia entry. :D

I am in agreement on your opinions. I like Power2 better.

The only other one I would change is Prosperity, but I'm not sure what I want instead [], and I still like the sound you have for it.

I wonder if you recognize the origin of the sounds :mischief:

:hmm: Master of Orion?

:hmm: Master of Orion?
Oh yes, the player shows it for two
Yes, Power2 is the Peace-Diplomacy theme for the Bulrathi (an ursuid warrior race) from the new Mater of Orion game. Hearing it reminds me of Sauron for some reason :mischief:
Prosperity is also from Moo4. It's the Peace-Diplomacy theme for the Alkari (a rather peaceful avian race). That somehow reminds me of coins, though I'm not 100% satisfied with it either.
Several others are town themes from Heroes of Might and Magic 3. Beauty is for Rampart (elven, sylvan town). Cunningness is for Dungeon (subterranean town of warlocks). Knowledge is for Tower (town of mages). And Valor is for Castle (town for humans, knights).
The other Power was from Warcraft3.
I was troubled with Diligence, because I wanted something "work-ish". I finally settled with this music part from Anno1701.

I'm happy if you like them :)

I have been very busy with family events and events at my church, so I haven't made too much progress on the mod, but I will be able to work on it more next week.

Saruman is interested (this post will cease to make sense when I change my avatar...)

A while back I tried to make a Lord of the Rings mod myself. I didn't get beyond the drafting stage but the file I generated may be of interest to you, especially the leader quotes

Especially leader quotes. I have been thinking about those for a while. :)

Mining
"The fire is more shining
On hearth in the gloaming
Than gold won by mining,"

Monarchy
"But in the wearing of the swift years of Middle-earth the line of Meneldil son of Anárion failed, and the Tree withered, and the blood of the Númenoreans became mingled with that of lesser men."

Mounted Combat
"Frodo was crushed by the news. How could they hope to reach Rivendell on foot, pursued by mounted enemies?"

Naval tactics
"In that time the fleets of the Númenóreans darkened the sea upon the west of the land, and they were like an archipelago of a thousand isles; their masts were as a forest upon the mountains, and their sails like a brooding cloud; and their banners were golden and black."

Naval warfare
"From the havens of Harad ships of war put out to sea; and out of the East Men were moving endlessly: swordsmen, spearmen, bowmen upon horses, chariots of chieftains and laden wains."

Out of curiosity, and I'm sorry if this has been answered already, why not base this on Fall From Heaven? It seems like that would make things like artifacts easier, since there's already an artifact system in FFH?

No it hasn't been answered before. No worries for asking. :)

Because the way I want to implement the several things listed (Regions, Artifacts, Special Victory Conditions, Heroes, The Ring) is not identical to FFH. I am not, however, above pillaging code from FFH when needed. :p

I didn't want this to be a modmod of FFH. I wanted it to be its "own mod". As before, I am not against using FFH code or art, but I do want this to be separate and have different ways of handling features in some certain aspects.

Hopefully that makes sense. If not... anyone is free to use what I have put together and put it into the FFH system. I won't complain. ;)

How do you plan to incorporate wizards into the mod? Could you have them as almost wonders which give you a unit, like you could have one wonder for each of the 5 color wizards (white wizard most powerful, red or blue least powerful).

Also do you have barbarian giant spiders in the game? Came across them while playing FFH and thought they would be perfect for your mod if you didn't already have them.

Perhaps as heroes. I haven't thought it all the way through for them, but I definitely want to add them in. They were given by the Valar, so I have thought about giving them to the Good Civs when Mordor achieve a certain amount of tech/power/evil points. I also want to add a corruption system similar to the one I am planning for the Ring - too much evil deeds will result in the Corruption of the Wizard. Saruman would only be given to Isengard and would be the easiest to corrupt, then the Blue wizards, then Radagast, and Gandalf would be very resistant to Corruption.

I want Evil civs to attempt to corrupt them and Good civs attempt to keep them.

Just initial thoughts/ideas. Input is wanted. I don't want players to build them, but to earn them. That much I do know. :)

Not yet. There's a model in FFH and in the Defense mod that comes with BtS. I also want to add Ents. Someone made a model of some pretty good ones a while back. To make Shelob, Giant Spiders, and Ents appear when I want, I will have to do some more of that DLL modding. :p
