[UNIT] Mighty Ships Et Al

@Walter Hawkwood Do you know much about citysets? I have many cityset models prepared that would make RI's civs really transition throughout the ages, but sadly I am totally clueless about skinning. All the models are ready to go, and I have many cultures ready. I last I checked, I had Medieval Tibet, Med Sino, Classic Sino, Ancient Sino, Ancient Japan, Industrial Japan, and a fantasy Sino set too. If anyone else is interested in cityset skinning, I have many ready.

I've hardly ever done anything from scratch; as a modpack curator, I mostly deal with stuff I convert from other games and with fixing stuff other people make. So no, unfortunately, I would not know where to start with something that has no textures at all. I have a myriad of advice for Civ4-ready stuff and for ripping stuff out of other games and making it Civ4-ready, but creating totally new assets is something that I've never done, sorry.

Yes, the ships I posted earlier were Andean. I just thought they might be good for sail shape inspiration. :)

Funny you mention Catamaran style, there is a picture of that too Toad.

I'm incorporating totem into the Haida Caravel or Galleon... The idea is that the Totem Pole is the mast, and is in the center of the ship. :)
What sort of construction material is that? It looks almost thatched. I am sure that works for a lake or something but not sure that would really be sea or ocean going.

Oh I was meaning that parts of the shape of the boat or the sails could be used for inspiration. I don't think the actual ship should be made from reeds. It should be from wood.

Yeah, that last one is similar to what I have in mind. Not made of reeds obviously.

This is nice concept artwork, but maybe a bit too elaborate. If anything the totem poles don't belong, thats a Northwest Pacific Coast thing. Otherwise the shape of the ship is nice. Looks like this could be some sort of heaver ship design. IDK for what. Originally posted by Matsuda. Looks like a Mayan, rather than Aztec(or Valley of Mexico civ) ship design.
I harvested most of the textures for the galley from this pic. It's where I got the idea for the pyramid from actually. The ship itself isn't really that great. Full of non sequitur contradictions like you've mentioned.

Yea, I really want to see stuff like a ship of the line.

Reminder Inca are a completely different culture and civilization from Aztec or Mayans, who share the general Mesoamerican sphere. Inca are part of the Andean sphere, and the units they have look much different. See the Warriors of the Americas. It would be cool to see the bronze armored axe and spearmen from the Mississipian culture as units. That is an interesting civilization, broke up into Choctaw, Cherokee, Creek.

If I was to use that in a flavor sense, it would be as a Tarascan Pikeman, would fit them nicely since they had already discovered(and were the first to do so in the region) bronze working. Also appearance wise, Aztecs have a distinct look, as do Maya. Important to remember the differences.

Finally got more MesoAmerican units done.

The Trireme is by far the weirdest ship I've done so far. It reminds me of the killer truck from "Maximum Overdrive" if it had a baby with the Weiner mobile.
Then there is the chicken boat... I tried several different eagle heads. Nothing really looks good. The hull itself is based off an egyptian dhow. That, with the canted Tanja sails, it could easily be an Egyptian ship. The problem I had is I have no freaking idea what a Mesoamerican caravel or trireme looks like, because they don't exist.

Also, did something extra for Sword of Geddon:

Very colorful and festive. I want to bring in the New Year with these guys. With Maximum Overdrive on loop in the background.

Fantastic as always, MightyToad. Thank you!

Toad, your Meso ships are more than anyone could ask for. They look very believable to what the region might have produced, and they're gorgeous. I'm so happy to see them. :) And a great job on the warriors as well. :D These are definitely worth any wait.

One idea for a Medieval upgrade

Thanks for making the version of the Swordsman with the last effect Toad, just noticed that. Sadly my harddrive went and I lost my Nan madol civ I was working on, and it seems the page Gedemo's Civ5 Nan Madol civ was on is gone. I will have to pm him

Ahh, the "Atlantis" Civ. I noticed something seemed to have taken the wind out of you sails. Or maybe is just the contrast with Matsuda, and Tantan's boundless positivity.
FYI you don't have to use the Laser attack with the Eagle warrior. I just reused the eagle warrior unit I did in the spring. It works with the normal Holkan KFM.

Anyway, I think the silver theme is a welcome break from all the gold. Also, stumbled across this in my extensive search of google images:

I was considering something like "Muerte Warrior", or something similar. I think these guys are just dancers for some festival. Maybe not a military outfit, but for religious ritual or something. The guy looks really METAL.
