[UNIT] Mighty Ships Et Al

I actually use the EU4 great frigate as a UU in my mod. It is a "super frigate" for the americans.

I agree the Civ5 frigate doesn't LOOK that high poly. I think it's the rigging that bloats it so much.
It's also a very heavy razee borderline third-rate SOTL.

Yea, the EU4 ships had rigging as well. I removed those entirely in my rework and replaced them with the rigging like structures you see in vanilla CIV4 ships. Saves me a LOT of polys.

Yeah, and it's a damn shame we don't have the many wondrous beasts from the Age of Steam here on CFC (I know MatteM has been converting some, but his stuff is really high-poly, and lacks some of the wonderfully weird early steam ships). But that particular gunboat to me looks like an alt-history South American indigenous attempt at an ironclad.

Actually I did convert this from an Ironclads game:

I think it is around 3000 polys so not THAT hi-poly :D I haven't really worked on the model so of course the ropes and stuff will be removed, and texture resolution lowered, it seems to be modeled on the same type of ironclad as Toad's, I use it as an armored gunboat unique to South American civs for coastal and river duty.

Wow, nice job, MightyToad!

Great to see you keeping this hot streak going into 2021 :goodjob:

As our Titan of Art and Industry, do you think you're ready to take on the real Goliath?

I'm not sure how to make a goliath. I think you could just bump the scale up on the swordsman in nifskope. That seems almost like "cheating" though.

Got anymore of them pixels? I can't even tell what the last one is. :assimilate:

"cheating"
Well, all I can say is that cheating is how I passed my commercial airline pilot's exam :cooool:

I'm planning on making this guy Uliat, Champion of the Karkissa (ancient Carians if that helps). A bunch of scholars have been dorking out because they found a pottery shard or something with the Carian name "W/uliat" - this might be his original name and origin.

So this Uliat champion unit is gonna have maybe :strength: 20 (14?), but can't be loaded onto ships. Mainly cuz he's scared of water. Uliat is also fond of sunsets.

Sorry, it was meant to be a lame-meme about Star Craft's Goliath assault walker mech.
Lameness achieved :goodjob: Honestly Nexus, you're about as nerdy on robots as I am on ancient history :p Happy 2021 btw

So whats been going on in Toadland? Enjoy your new year I hope?
You want me to reveal my plans? :cooool:
I was looking at the Venetian galleass. I think I need to add gun animations to the one I did previously. I'll need them for the future mesoamerican galleass. Probably bundle it with a barbarian galley convert.
I've decided to go with your suggestion. Don't like the weiner mobile hull.

For now, though, I was working on the Goliath. Only got the head and pauldrons so far. I've been unmotivated recently. So, not working as fast.

Philistine/Sea People units would be awesome. You could take the images and make a few, spearman, swordsman, axeman, whatever. Goliath just take the clothing and adapt to a different unit, different face. All depends on you.

Update: I've been doing some reskinning. Ive been taking your Mesoamerican units, and changing gold to silver. Also steal tectures on weapons. What I've love to do is a proper Mayan Line Infantry(1700s to 1840ish) Musketman.

I think I can reskin(with some of your textures and others, an existing unit. Wish me luck.

If you're not feeling it, please don't sweat it. There's no rush. My next ultra-lame joke in-waiting will still be fresh a few months from now.

Joke: Hey @Zeta Nexus : "Uliat online." Eh, eh? (Starcraft reference)

Btw tried to dig out my old SC1 disc - and then I remembered laptops haven't had a disc-drive in years! #thanksNexus

Good luck, Sword of G! :king:

Philistine Civ. Units could work for Myceneans as well

Update: Trying my best to reskin this Rifleman using animation unit. Having trouble with black feather texture, seems to be built into the dds of the unit, and I can't change it without completely replacing the texture(which doesn't work with what I'm trying to do).

I did find good ideas for some ideas for Meso 1700s and 1800s infantry, though it isn't as devoid of real history and What If as I would prefer.

Those are really cool. Line Infantry exactly as I imagined. If I could make those units(or convert and animate from EUIV) I would

Anyways Here is my Mayan Line Infantry:
