Misandrism

To give more details to the study:
University students independently judged the attractiveness of applicants.
Said applicants apply with the same application papers.
Attractive men are favored. (expected by previous studies on general attractiveness)
Attractive women are not. (not expected by previous studies on general attractiveness)

One of the reasons I often doubt investigations like this is because people tend to give answers according to what they believe others want to hear, and what is acceptable to cultural norms, whereas they actually behave, in real life, quite differently. This is why I prefer to judge people on actions, not words. It is quite likely that, among other things, no one wanted to concede that they were interested in someone on their looks alone, as that is no longer socially acceptable to admit. It is especially not acceptable to admit that of women, due to historical biases, but not so much so for men.

I recognize the conclusions of this study. It seems to make the most sense.

I'd consider giving my life for a woman if there was incredibly mass-death involved.

In situations where mass-death isn't involved, please don't make the choice of giving my life for the sake of a woman's life for me.
I don't think I'd give my life for any female except my daughter (hopefully I won't have to of course). I'd probably feel the same if I had a son though.

I've met ********s who like war because it means more dead men and they hate men...

Civ_King any decent feminist realises that the people who suffer from war the most are civilians, which are typically more gender-equal.

That's because men pee all over the toilet seat, but we trust them with aiming bombs.

I hope they are homeless, because most likely men built their house.

I once met a really sexist man who thought women should stay in the kitchen all day and make sammiches.

No, a sammich only takes a few minutes to make. Otherwise they should be in the bedroom waiting for me to pounce on them.

Nope, she had a house which she bought with money from a divorce settlement, apparently the husband didn't like her spending "her" money that he earned
:crazyeye:

This is the main thing, I think. "Feminism" is the most gender-biased term ever conceived by the English language. Applying it to a movement designed to end gender bias is going to cause some problems with exactly the kind of people you're trying to reach.

That said, I think your friend was being a little childish. Although it's true feminists tend to pay lip service to men's issues in practice despite claiming to be concerned with them, this guy is veering dangerously close to, "where's my white history month?" territory.

He was, but he still has a point. And the comparison to 'where's my white history month' is not fair and irrelevant outside America.

I've always considered myself to be a feminist in that I think women should be treated equally.

I once decided to attend a feminist rally with my girlfriend, who instantly thought it wouldn't be such a great idea. But I went with her anyway. I found that I was the only male there and quickly discovered why she thought I might not want to attend. There was a small percentage of women there who really hated men and were quite vocal about it. But I didn't get that impression from the overwhelming majority, even though the topic was discussed a lot. But then again, it is the males who continue to oppress females...

I imagine the percentage of women who actually do hate men is probably about the same as it is with men.

I once saw a Lesbian comic on the Comedy Channel who explained her decision to be gay was based on whether or not to associate with neurotics or liars. I think a certain amount of friction between the sexes should be expected.

Feminism doesn't mean putting women ahead of men, but the name is pretty counterintuitive

In theory it doesn't. Spend much time speaking to many who describe themselves as feminists and you find that, in practice, it largely does.

Edit:... in my experience.

Found out yesterday my nephew's (now) ex-girlfriend assaulted hiom pretty badly a while back. When his Mam told me she said "Can you believe it... the nerve of her". If it had been her daughter assaulted in this way by a bloke, he could expect to be on the wrong end of a very nasty visit from 6 or 7 members of my family... total double-standard.
