I'm playing a game as Egypt, and they're great. They're UP and UU are very powerful, but rightfully so. I was afraid at first that I might run out of Mongols to kill, but the constant reinforcements near Halab meant that I killed 60 before 1291 (still a bit annoyed that I finished Dome of the Rock 2 turns after my 2UHV GA began, but oh well).
The crusades worked out very well for me. Germany got the first crusade, conquered Jerusalem and Tyre, then offered them to me after a few turns (Arabia was dead). 2nd crusade was bought by Venice, so I had a fair amount of time to prepare for the next crusade, and when they came, the entire army (German, again) dashed themselves to death against a walled arbalestiers, macemen and Mamlukes. The 4th, 5th and 6th crusades were also all German and resulted in 3 GG for <5 casualties on my side.
Rum never did so well, so the Mongols managed to collapse them in the 1250s. I'm currently in the process of taking as much Anatolian land as I can while staying solid. I expect to finish 15 wonders sometime in the 15th century.
What's the basis for the 1700 deadline on the Egyptian wonder UHV? I think making it something like 1520 (Ottoman conquest in 1517) would be historical and quite doable.
