Monarch SG, looking for trainers and trainees

i dont want to be a spoiler but i played the ten turns and now i definitely think we should stay with the position we're in now..
You can try to avoid mistakes but i still think that actually making mistakes is better for learning

@ doc - by spoiler, what exactly do u mean? and by position?
do u mean our physical city placements? our tactics (builds, etc)?
wouldnt that be a bit of cheating? atleast dont reveal any real info, like that inca stack on the way to rome ;)

how about some more curraghs? i can never have enough of those. and we can always upgrade those later into galleys.
More curraghs would be nice, but I think we need to concentrate on other things first, ie. settlers + military.

Upgrading curraghs is not something I normally do. By the time they have finished exploring they are usually a long way from any of my cities, so the cost of supporting them while they come home is too high. I prefer to send them on suicide runs; if they find something new that's a bonus and if they sink it doesn't matter as I would have disbanded them anyway.

@doc - I know this is your game, but you really shouldn't reveal anything about future turns to the rest of us. I can work out what is going to happen just from the coded comments you have made.

Will play this evening (in about 4 to 5 hours)
I'll see what I'll do about the cities. And like Zakharov said, spoilers (eventhough very subtle) are simply not done in SG's.

@ doc m - no harm no foul
@ all - ive got some heavy duty clubbing coming up this week end, so i might be a bit late with my turn. earliest i can play will be saturday afternoon, so guys - pls be patient.
i believe im up after formula51? 2 players away? should manage, but will check friday afternoon and say if i need to wait one turn :) hope i dont :D

I'm curious... why are you guys irrigating the grass in despotism?

Got It!

Any thoughts before I start? I'l probably have to play in a few hours anyway as I'm up in another SG.

Good turns Jurimax :goodjob:
I don't think it's necessary to post my log. I did almost the same. Just spend more money and have one less tech. Did found another city though (near the gems and game)

IMHO we should get started on a settler pump asap. Can we rush the granary?
a settler and spearman pump
I wouldn't rush it. It's six turns from completing. Better to just let it finish up. Maybe micromanage a citizen to work a forest tile for a turn so the granary finishes before the city grows again (that starts you with a full granary).

I don't think your capitol will be a settler pump. There isn't enough surplus food, and it's shield poor. The only way to get more shields is to work forest, and that will slow growth.

If we get a temple though, which will take a while. Anything else?

@ doc - i think i agree. VEII should become a settler pump (6 turn varaiety), but a SPEARMAN PUMP? why?
from my humble experience i found that archers are much more effective. if we want garrisons, we should build warriors (cheaper). if we want defense? i dont think we do! IMHO i think we should focous on offensive units - lets say a 3 to 1 ratio (offensive to defensive) units.

@ all - how about this expansion plan?

build next city in red dot 1 - both shore and cow.
build colony in iron to south? send next settler to that area?
or should we go first for city site 2, thus blocking the inca?
maybe use worker near rome for colony to north. if he roads, then colonizes, should get there in what? 25 turns or so? maybe send to that area some explorer? next warrior?
city 3 location, i like a lot, i fear its a fantasy, but still, how bout it guys?
