This is the best part of a whole NFP (apart from The Maya come back).
The only thing I lack is a Civilization's unique luxury. Imagine The Dutch monopoly on Tulips or Chinese on porcelain.
I think a real question is: why would you build a standard improvement on a resource instead of Industry? Will be interested to see what balancing has been done there.

The way I understood it, you need to have one standard improvement on a luxury in a given city already to build an industry on the next of that luxury? And can probably also only build one industry/city?

YES! This is basically exactly what I've been wishing for since Civ5: Using Great Merchants to found coorporations, being able to allocate resources into buildings and being able to produce new resources and getting benefits from them! I'm really hyped for this, hope they don't blow balance completely. I would have used Factories rather than Stock Exchanges, but I'm really excited for this and hope this will also create a framework that modders can expand upon.
It wouldn't surprise me if it was slightly similar to some of the heroes, except later. Maybe you can't found an industry in a city unless if you have a stock exchange there or something? Creating a product is 500 production, so it's definitely a later game feature.
Will certainly be curious to see what the details are, and what the bonuses are. Seems like it's not simply a big boost to gold, so depending on what resources you have nearby, could certainly make a curious setup. I could also see some fun with Anansi and Maui trying to corner the market later on.
My first instinct is to purchase Stock Exchanges and Seaports with all the extra Gold generation instead of building them to slot in the products. Gold can be transformed to other yields like Production, Science, and Culture--a reverse alchemy if you will
I hope already existing civs will gain some bonuses regarding this new game mode, like the Dutch for example, or Mali. Something like, getting 100% extra tourism from monopolies.
Or perhaps a new 'random' agenda, which makes a civ wanting as many monopolies as possible.
See this is perfect for me because I like building Seaports and Stock Exchanges for gobs of gold even if it wasn’t perfectly optimal. I do like how it ties in with how commercialism and brand names do give lots of recognition to a country/culture and ties it into tourism/culture. Really just fantastic at first glance.

I don't know the features of the gamemode, but if the ability to form a monopoly is after a certain era some civs could have an advantages to form them sooner. Like China with porcelaine for example!
