[NFP] Monopolies and Corporations Game Mode Discussion Thread

Like: Settling on a resource has a downside. I don't know exactly why lux settling bother me so much.
Lost opportunity: It's too bad that establishing a product doesn't give a malus to is not trading with you, rather then a bonus for yourself.
Questions for the live stream: Also is a monopoly controlling all visible resources, or improved resources?

I just realized that's kind of a downside to the Maya in the game mode. Possibly forgo an extra amenity when settling to instead improve it.
Nevermind it's just settling adjacent to luxuries ignore this comment. :o

Another (positive) consequence of corps is encouraging early exploration so you can seek out those luxuries. I feel like my early game will be more hectic, and more violent.

how will it help for non-cultural games? like for science game?

Considering we already know there will be a +20% culture Product, one of the Corporation Product will probably give you +20% science in a given city, like a mini Oxford University.

God early game is so packed with events now xD

Soothsayers and Unit Sacrifciing, and Heroes hunting, now this!

My guess is mercury, unless that gives your units "immortality" like vampires. :mischief:

In that case the turtles would be the next best option. Save the turtles.

I'm surprised that there hasn't been much speculating about what the industry bonuses will be for the different luxuries. So far we know:
  • Diamonds: +25% gold in the city
  • Cocoa: +3 Housing +20% growth in the city
  • Elephants: +30% production towards military units in the city
  • Coffee: +20% Culture yield in the city
I think a pretty obvious one would be marble giving a wonder building boost. Maybe +30% production to wonders in the city to mirror the Elephant bonus?
Edit: Added Coffee to the list.

Didn't Marble do that in the past? I think that could work. Either that or it could boost the yields of Great Works of Art.

I think we already know that Coffee produces 20% culture in the city as well.

I have a feeling that Mercury will produce about 20% more science in the host city.

I would be (pleasantly) surprised if all the different luxuries give unique bonuses. My guess is the bonuses are based on what type of improvement it needs: camp, mine, plantation, quarry.

I really hope I'm wrong, though. Plus, it can probably be modded in as well.

We've already seen Cocoa and Coffee, both Plantation resources, are different.

Wasn't that the Coffee product, which you get after you build a corporation and do the project? In any case, we'll find out in a few days.
Possibly. As you say, we'll have to wait and see.

I think you're right. I've rewatched the video, and it seems to imply that the product that you make has the bonus that the industry gives, which can then be transferred to different cities. I was under the impression that the product bonus was separate from the industry bonus, but the wording in the video definitely implies that the product bonus is the industry bonus.

The product I believes provides tourism to whichever city it's placed in. The industry/corporation provided 20% of culture to host city. So each looks to be different.

I don't expect furs, honey, or truffles to give a discount on production to military units unlike ivory.
