More crap about Commander in Chief/Grief

So the only thing we should know about a candidate is something that would casue a cancellation of elections (aka nothing)?

It is a long time ago, but the recent bit about potential gay bullying does reveal the kind of environment that he grew up in that perhaps contributed to his eventual agenda against marriage-equality.

But your point is taken; perhaps we shouldn't mind bullying from years ago, but there are people who do seem to mind Harvard equal-rights rallies from years ago, too.

Why do these articles appear?

Media sensationalism, and Public demand
Thousand of hours of coverage on Janet Jackson Boob, no coverage of Bush refusing to testify under oath to the 9-11 commission.

I would prefer if the game worked without holding everyone's past to scrutiny. It's today's Romney who runs for office, not twenty-something Romney.

The past is relevant though. Maybe 20 year old Romney isn't relevant (which I would agree with), but what about his past as a governor or his work at Bain? At some point, we'll agree his past is relevant to the election, although we might not agree on what, exactly, that point is. It seems to me that it is just as valid to air all the dirty laundry and let the voted decide on what is and is not relevant as it is to make an arbitrary decision that X is relevant and show be reported on whereas Y is not.

Yes. And I think the dividing point is what Romney himself says is relevant to him. I'm sure he would distance himself from the bullying in his past (although I'm sure he'd prefer the thing didn't come up at all). But he's still actively relying on his Bain years as a form of qualification, so it's fair game to use it against him imo. Same thing of course with every public office he held.

There are many holes in the story. To begin with, the sister of the alleged victim said she has no knowledge of any bullying incident involving her brother and Romney.

When ABC News showed her the story, Christine Lauber’s eyes welled up with tears and she became agitated.

She also corrected the story, saying her brother was a boarder, not a day student.
.....
Betsy Lauber, one of John Lauber’s three sisters, spoke with ABC News Tuesday night regarding the accuracy of the story.

“The family of John Lauber is releasing a statement saying the portrayal of John is factually incorrect and we are aggrieved that he would be used to further a political agenda. There will be no more comments from the family,” she said.

Pretty rich buy-in of the holes coming from a former birther. I won't be convinced until Romney releases his long-form report card showing that he got excellent feedback regarding his conduct.

If you're going to rant and rave for four years about Obama's "Islamic childhood", you can't complain when the left goes to the same well.

What does that matter? It was an all boys boarding school and maybe the two weren't very close. However, 5 people witnessed it and all Romney can say is that he's sorry for any pranks. Holding someone down and cutting their hair while they scream for help doesn't sound like any prank I've ever heard of.

The irony is sooooo sweet when it's coming from the people who threw fits about others simply QUESTIONING Obama's place of birth. "Pot, meet kettle."

His sisters would have known if it had actually happened. As it stands now, there is no proof, much like the birther junk.

(It's kind of fun to watch people who complain about others asking questions dive into the same dumpster one year later. Anyway, I can see where this thread is going, so I'm going to put my time to better use than watching hypocrisy in motion.)

Asking questions becomes a euphemism when you ask leading questions. You're no longer questioning but trying to fashion yourself a modern Socrates. Watch:

Person 1: Isn't it odd that the WTC collapsed from a fire even though the fire wasn't hot enough to melt steel?

You're not really asking a question there.

They'd know what happened at an all-male boarding school?

Hell, I knew all about what my sister got up to at the very same co-ed school I went to, just two years below me. Oh, wait, no I didn't. Whoops.

Okay. All I need is a quote of me throwing a fit over said Birther topic, please. Good luck on finding it.

Why would his sisters know what happened at an all boys boarding school? She confirmed that he was an outcast to it's likely he got picked on at some point. I'd doubt he'd tell her about every incident that occurred.

Five witnesses, four of which were on record. They all seemed to remember the story with enough consistency for something that happened that long ago. It must have been a big deal if that many people still hold recollections.
