More Wonders

Thanks for the help guys. Another question now. I downloaded the Karnak Wonder Mod, but its ability in the tool-tips & Civilopedia is different from what's claimed in the Steam Workshop. It says +2 culture, rather than faith (especially faith from floodplains). Why is this?

Aussie.
Hrm. Do you by any chance have an earlier version of Karnak? If so, I would say delete it. I've been having occasional issues in testing where old effect text is showing up on the new wonders.

I have a suggestion for world wonder:

Père Lachaise Cemetery

Père Lachaise Cemetery is one of the most visited cemeteries in the world . It was opened in 1804,but didn't start with the famous it has today, until many famous people started to be buried there . Today, there are over 1 million of people buried there . Among them, there are famous people, like Oscar Wilde,Jim Morrison(which is so frequently visited, that vandalism has become common),Allan Kardec and many, many others . The effect of this wonder ingame is giving :c5faith: for every Great person used(which is similar to the effect of the Reliquary belief) .

I like this idea, although it really depends on if a building can do that effect.

Do you know yet if it's possible to transfer the effect of a belief to a world wonder? If so,then you just need to adjust the ammount of the faith earned to this wonder be competitive, compared to other wonders from its era, which I suppose it should be the Industrial era .

As you put it it'll be impossible, given they are different XML tables ( I tried it with Policies once) - but there might be a code allowing me to do it in buildings, although I doubt it, so the only way would be LUA

Great work with all these wonders, Pouakai!

I would have a suggestion for your Abraj al Bait towers wonder if you want to make it to suit G&K also. Why not to make it to provide +1 gold for every city that has adopted your religion, to represent its real-world meaning to provide hotel services for all the pilgrims who come to Mecca from all around the world. It may sound too powerful, but it isn't available until Globalization. What do you think?

I would also love to see some other existing religious wonders to get some G&K bonuses, if you have time to do them, of course :) .

Regarding some of the wonders I suggested earlier could they work like this?

River Rouge Complex
Tech: Combustion
Why: Giant Ford Motors Automobile factory built in the 1920s. It was the epitome of the giant assembly line.
Effect: +1 happiness per city connected to your trade network (people zipping around in their model Ts seeing the country)

Krupp Works
Tech: Dynamite
Why: Krupp became the world’s largest industrial company by 1900. They were essential in Nazi Germany’s rearmament drive in the 1930s.
Effect: I think, though i may be mistaken, that Armored units are in UnitCombat_Mounted class. So you could have an effect like
<PromotionType>PROMOTION_BLITZ</PromotionType> for Mounted units built in the city

Uralvagonzavod
Tech: Combined Arms
Why: Responsible for most of the USSR/Russian Federation’s tank designs. It was the major tank production plant during and after the war. Currently, Uralvagonzavod produces more tanks than the rest of the world combined every year.
Effect: extra xp for Armored units
UnitCombatType>UNITCOMBAT_MOUNTED</UnitCombatType> <Experience>15</Experience>

LOL. Yep, that was apparently the problem. Everything is working really well now, thanks :-).

Hello, Pouakai!

Here's that list of Scandinavian wonders (both national and world-class) that I requested in another thread; I think the Nordic countries got short-changed in Civ 5, with just one unofficial Danish wonder (Kronborg) posted to the Steam Workshop.

First, for Denmark--

  • Uranienborg (Renaissance): Tycho Brahe's observatory; provides a free one to the town where it is built. Also boosts Science and city defenses modestly; adds another Great Scientist slot. Must know Architecture and Astronomy first.
  • The Little Mermaid statue (modern era): Small boost to Culture and Happiness; must be built in a coastal city.
  • Tivoli Gardens (industrial era): Mid-range boost to Gold, Culture, and Happiness; adds another Great Artist slot (since musical and dramatic performances are common there).
  • Strøget (modern era): the Western world's first pedestrian shopping street. Boosts gold by a modest percentage (+10% or +15%?); adds another Great Merchant slot.

Second, for Sweden--

  • Ale's Stones (classical era): mid-range Culture and Faith boost, must know Masonry and have an improved source of Stone nearby.
  • Uppsala Cathedral (medieval): mid-range Culture and Faith bonuses. (It's a shame the game doesn't have a Historian category for great people; that would fit the cathedral's wealth of historical art perfectly!)
  • Drottningholm Palace (Renaissance): mid-range Culture and Happiness bonuses; adds another Great Artist slot and a free Theater to the town.
  • Ytterby Mine (Industrial Era site where several rare elements were discovered, but best treated as a natural wonder): mid-range percentage boost to Science and Production, adds another Great Scientist slot. Located only after Mining and Metallurgy are learned.

Hopefully, these national wonders are worth including in a later version; they should make the mid to late game more fun for Scandinavian builders who missed out on the famous Ancient and Classical sites.

Some observations that a fellow player and I made about the wonders in the previous message:

  • The Little Mermaid statue should be buildable after Printing Press and Steam Power have been discovered: Printing Press because it was inspired by a 19th-century author's story, and Steam Power because authors were beginning to romanticize the Age of Sail then. Some players might dismiss it as a typical Great Artist's landmark, but that statue has become a national symbol over the years.
  • Tivoli Gardens (built in 1843, the world's second oldest amusement park) should require Acoustics for the musical performances, and Railroad for the roller coasters/similar rides.
  • Uppsala Cathedral, as old as it is, should require Construction and Theology. The Great Person slot should probably go to artists, given the work that went into it.
  • Drottningholm Palace should require the same as other Theater buildings, plus Architecture (it was built in the late 16th century).
  • Ytterby Mine is OK as I originally described it, though I might lower the Science bonus and add a Great Scientist appearing in the capital (announcing his discovery...). My friend found a better picture to use if we're treating the mine as a natural wonder.

How about the Inca city "Ollantaytambo" as a wonder?
Could be unlocked at Masonry and needs a mountain and river near the city. (yeah no easy-to-fullfill condition, but the promotion is worth it)
It provides some little culture(like 1) and defense(like 2) and units built in this ciy gain the promotion amphibious
*edit*
or even no culture. Giving defense and the promotion could be enough

*edit*
and a second wonder for maybe future era...
After looking at solar updraft tower technology - I think in some future times mankind will build such a tower in an enormous size which would make it a wonder then... . It could give +2 production and +1 gold for every desert tile within a distance of 2 as well as an engineer slot - ok it must be somewhat more than that for a future wonder.
But I wonder which tech should be prerequisite for it - particle physics?

Hey Pouakai,

thanks a lot for your hard work. I really enjoy playing with your mod. It would be cool, if you can add some additional german wonder to the game. I'm not a genius when it comes to boni. I don't know what would suit your taste, so i'll just post a few things that deserve to be a wonder in this beautiful game.

1) Port of Hamburg (Hamburger Hafen) - wikipedia
Build in 1189, the port of Hamburg is one of the biggest and most important harbors in Europe and Germany. Without this area, Hamburg wouldn't be the same today. As ingame-boni i would love to see a additional gold from harbours/seeports (like +2 Gold from both so it doesn't collide with Carthago). More gold would fit better but we already have a few +gold per trade route-wonder in the game.

2) Muinch Hofbräuhaus (Hofbräuhaus in München) - wikipedia
The inn was originally built in 1598, but has become the origin of the most important brewery in the whole country. Beer was already served in the ancient Egypt and has been a staple food for tousand of years. As boni i would prefer a food-releated, maybe like additional 20% growth in the city it was build and additional 5% or 10% in your empire.

3) Museum Island of Berlin (Museumsinsel in Berlin) - wikipedia
Museum Island is the name of a small area in the northern Spreeinsel. It contains a couple museums (first opened in 1830) and is now on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. You can visit there amongst other the Pergamon Altar and a replication of the Ishtar Gate. As bonus i'd like a cultural one. But i don't know any worthwile, maybe something like 10 Culture? I know it's a lot but its a late wonder.

4) Dresdner Frauenkirche - wikipedia
Build as an christian church in 1743, the Frauenkirche is now a memorial landmark against war and destruction. So it could be a really cool wonder in CiV, giving +3 Faith and another bonus while you are at peace (like the Swords into Plowshares-Belief)

5) Dresdner Semperoper - wikipedia
Another cultural masterpiece. Build in 1841, its an opera house which featured a lot of premieres of Wagner and Strauss. The building itself has an special style. I quote from wiki: "The building style itself is debated among many, as it has features that appear in three styles; Early Renaissance and Baroque, with Corinthian style pillars typical of Greek (classical revival)." I'd love to see this building in the game.

Another thing: I don't know how hard it can be but is it possible to increase the boni of city states? Like Wonder A gives boni A and increases culture granted from city states by 25%. Germany has a long history with tribes and later in the Holy Roman Empire-era a lot of small states. Boni like that would have an unique touch.

Thanks for reading

I have three suggestions.
First, Red Square or Lenin's tomb. +1 Happiness for every Order policy?
Second, Central Park, Founded in 1844. They have free plays there during the summer of high quality and many great artist live next door to it. I don't know what I would put it with, maybe Railroad? Free great Artist, plus 7 culture?
Lastly, Greenfield village. Founded by Ford in 1929, it includes the Logan County Illinois courthouse where Abraham Lincoln practiced law, Henry Ford's birthplace, and a replica of Menlo park, to name a few. I would put it with Flight or Railroad, +5 great Engineer, +5 science, free great engineer?

While those buildings are very interesting, I think it would be better if the city name of the place they were built in didn't appear in their ingame name - since they can be built in any city. So, for instance, the "Munich Hofbräuhaus" could become "The Hofbräuhaus".

Good point. If only Firaxis followed that point we'd have the 'Mausoleum of Maussollos'. :p

Kremllin and St. Basil's are next to each other, Red square is to the north, Lenin's Tomb is part of/Next to Red square.
