MP10 - AWDG Continents, Ottoman

and a dotmap for discussion

If we settle the GL town on the spot MP suggested (1SW of yours) we still get 4 BG's on the river. I'm not sure wether we'd have the river though, it might turn away from its outer corner - I'll have to check it to be sure.

Next, how about that incense hill?

An extra worker can be nice too... Depending on if we meet the AI or not...

I like my original blue dot, 3S of Endrine, but otherwise looks great. :p

The only thing I would advise is to not be in such a rush for a settler that we are weakly defended.

preturn - no changes.

1- Istanbul archer > archer. i want some more military. next build is a settler.
2- :sleep:
3- worker goes to wheat.
4- archer moved to cover worker (dont need MP, and feels safer somehow)
misclicked and worker moved :mad:
5- Istanbul archer > settler,
6- nadna
7- Edrine walls > worker,
8- worker roading the wheat.
9- :sleep:
10- Istanbul settler > archer. irrigating the wheat. moved settler pair towards the south city.

Alpha is due in 5. 0gpt.
settler is where the worker is on the previous pic.
nothing changed, so no pic.

I would build a granary next after the worker and use lots of forest chops to help and keep Istanbul on military. I would feel pretty safe with 8 military units.

Gots Thisz.
I'll settle MP's dot and work on gran, spears and the odd worker.

We have one coast which can mean a safe side that'll be nice to have, but OTOH it might mean we'll have an exposed front side. If we have to fight our first wars with frontline in our core cities, are we better off trying to settle fast to move forward, improve fast to have it done and be able to back workers off, or forget it and work towards the coast?

Wha..? :crazyeye: :lol:

Perhaps observing will be more efficient than asking questions ;) Perhaps it's just the hangover that shuts my english down, too ...

1- Edrine worker->barrack
3- Bookstore founded, walls first.
We find tundra to the south.

4- Istanbul archer->granary
5- Alphabet->writing
6- a smelly guy with a rough cut on the forehead comes about from the mountains between the incenses.

This is the best he can offer so I deny him a trade. Sorry for that pic, I should have trimmed it.

Send an escorted worker to chop a forest, raise lux.

10-The cold war stands strong over the mountain. Mayan trops are yet to be seen, but it's been 4 turns already so they should be around in the next set.
Still 0gpt, though a few coins were bagged with alphabet's completion.

The Save

Beorn, the save link is messed up. Also I think the builds aren't good. Endrine was to be a worker/settler pump, and Istanbul as our military city. There's no point to build a 40-shield barrack in Endrine. There is benefit to building a granary in Istanbul, but I think military would be better, with an occasional settler or worker.

Otherwise, good choice in not trading Alpha, and building Bookstore in my preferred location. :mischief:

It's hard to say as a group whether we have agreement on things because sometimes it's everyone with their own opinion, but I'd like to see what others think here. I think there is a benefit to having specialized cities

Edrine has had a chop for its barracks, that's why I had it built. If we switch it to a settler it won't hurt that bad (3-4 shields lost) and it will go on growth. I'm for it being specialised, with the wheat so well placed. Once it reaches 6spt it can do 5 turns settlers.

Right now though, this is AW and I don't know how big we should go on massing settlers and workers this early.

Save link fixed, I've got the bad habit of keeping a template txt file for my logs with adresses ready for saves and images but I forget to edit them half of the time :cringe::whipped:

I got it.

Beorn, good idea with template thingy. I never thought about it.

I'm all the way for specialised cities. We have good piece of land, it can be used effectively. I still have some 3-4 hours before I play. Any special wishes?
Shell I plop fortress city on the hill? It's about time to make some leaders :)

The mayan warrior popped out of the fog right where it sits at the moment, so chances are the N incense hill will be a good spot for keeping defensive action on a defender-friendly city tile.

Yeah, I was thinking it over. Another pro for this tile is connecting insence.
But the city near wheat will be more productive and better placed for counterattacks - plains. So I really can't decide which is better.

Given our worker is already working a tile that needs being roaded for incense, I think it'll be easier and faster to settle the incense first and the wheat after. Once the wheat city is founded, the BG's will be in both cities' radii anyways. Not that a fast growing city isn't good, but incense will allow all others to grow further without riot problems.

Preturn

I don't think Bookstore needs walls - switch to Pyramids
I think barracks in Edrine is not such a bad idea, it can build military her and there.

IT

Here comes another blue guy.

1725 BC (1)

IT

O-o, now there are 4 blue guys

1725 BC (1)

1700 BC (2)

Settler can wait. Edrine rax-->archer

IT

6 incan warriors to deal with

1675 BC (3)

Istanbul granary-->archer
One blue guy dies

1650 BC (4)

Kill another warrior, but they just keep coming

1625 BC (5)

Kill 2 more warriors, we still have no losses

1600 BC (6)

1 incan warrior less

1575 BC (7)

Istanbul archer-->archer
Edrine archer-->settler
Kill 4 warriors lose 1 archer :(

1550 BC (8)

A little peace

1525 BC (9)

Kill last inca in viciniy

1500 BC (10)

Istanbul archer-->spear

Now that Istanbul has granary and Edrine has rax they both can build military/settlers/workers

You may wonder why I lost valuable archer, problem was warriors didn't attack our spears in cities, they advanced towards our roads and improvements, so I had to attack them.
