MP10 - AWDG Continents, Ottoman

Istanbul is on 10 spt plans and was intended to work on settler next indeed, that should have been made clearer. Researching horses and maths, AFAIK, are never bad. Any other useful tech we'll get in time - heck, we'll have monarchy free if we pull it out. Plus, we know we won't have to fight for horses, which is good. And we can start pre-building catapults out of Izmit :mischief:

Good idea on the curragh, the south should be pretty much clear I guess. I'm afraid the celts can be pretty damn painful to fight with their UU, so expanding towards them and the iron mountain would be my bet. Depending on its location (or rather potential for threat), that other city SW might be worth taking or razing soon.

I don't think so, since we cannot assume we will get the GL automatically. A wonder cascade is all it needs and your GL is toast. good to have a backup until we are safe.

Also, it is vital to know where horses are, they aren't a waste. Horses can be good if you want to prevent exposed units or need faster response. A mix of units is always better to have.

Now, we should build up some force and start expanding towards the enemy. It is crucial for AW to never stop expanding
i agree completely.
that was the reasoning for the reaserch.
i just thought we would want to know all the resources ASAP.

I'm on deck, confirmed and he's in the game! Got a beautiful nicey peesee; will try not to shock it from the first day with too much blood when I get the game, but it'll have to get used.

Actualy I agree, ponnies were less important ATM than Maths. Should have got that first. Not a biggie but I would prefer a few rockers.

My fingers are burning. Leha, could you please leave me someone to kill, thank you.

EDIT: Why is a curragh being built? Two civs with ancient UUs is tough enough to try to add some more, even when/if we get TGL...

Glad your on deck Khan. A new computer is always fun stuff.

The curragh would be to map our coast, not to meet people...although that could happen. :mischief:

Preturn

Blue guys now weald swords instead of clubs? Good for them.

IT

Two brave swordsmen end their lives on our sharpened sticks.

530 BC (1)

Kill celtic archer. What are those green borders doin' in our south?

510 BC (2)

Istanbul sword-->settler
Edrine sword-->sword
Izmit spear-->rax (prebuild for cat)
Kill JT enslave settler.

IT

This is getting hot. 12 celtic archers and 3 spears advance from the north.

490 BC (3)

Insence hill spear-->sword
Kill 2 celtic archers.
Math in 1 turn --> research 10%.

IT

We have hordes of green guys in our north now.
Celts start GW

470 BC (4)

We get math, turn research off.
Mountain port sword-->cat
Izmit switch rax to cat.
Furry fury switch rax to cat.
Kill 3 green archers, no losses still but many of our guys are wounded.

IT

Now I see green horse, no gallic swords still.
Rome finishes GW.
I think it could be good idea to find another continent to maximize use of our GL and
get tech superiority on our continent.

450 BC (5)

Istanbul settler-->sword
Edrine sword-->sword
Furry Fury cat-->cat

IT

Here come gallic swordsman

430 BC (6)

Our archer dies on celt horse redlining it.
Finish horse
Another our archer dies on archer.

Frankly, I'm afraid to push enter button.
We are overwhelmed.

IT

We lose archer and sword.
Celts lose 5 archers.
GL.jpg

410 BC (7)

Never Die is built-->walls
Kill some archers, but i'm afraid we'll be pillaged next turn.

IT

We get bunch of techs, monarchy among them, but can't riot right now.

390 BC (8)

Our sword dies to archer on plain, what can I say? :(
Izmit has only reg spear in it and maya sword and celt archer nearby.
I kill celt archer, enslave settler and try to bait AI with slave workers (yeah, situation is that bad)
Have to make taxman in Edrine, no troops there.

IT

Gallic sword and two swordsmen die on spears in Never Die.
*i must to hold two more turns...i must to hold two more turns..*

370 BC (9)

Damn AI don't want to take slave-bait

IT

At last AI takes bait
Lots of blue swords and gallic one die on spears in Never Die.

350 BC (10)

Khan, you asked to leave you some AI meat. I leave you plenty, be my guest.

Now, seriously, situation is a little bit better now, I was sure I will lose 2-3 cities in
my turns, plus RNG was really nasty. Still, AI units keep pouring in our territory from all
directions and I don't know what you will do about sneaky celt spear entering our territory through poorly defended
south. We seriously lack military power.
Good luck.

SAVE

I killed one warrior on my entire turn and look what we now have to deal with. I looked at the save and it doesn't look good at all. Having to face 2 demigod AGR civs with tough UUs during their GAs is a prescription for disaster. They seem to have the same amount of units as us, and we only have 2 catapults, so we aren't guaranteed a great kill-ratio. If this is all they have, I'd say we're fine, but this may be the tip of the iceberg. :(

For builds, I think we need more catapults and spears mainly, and watch the MM to minimize shield overrun.

Khan, we need a couple sword armies - that would be cool. :D

Roster

- soul_warrior
- Beorn-eL-Feared
- Leha - just played
- Khan_Asparuh - up

Good job Leha, nice spot for the city. Too bad we got bad RNG, but this is no one's fault. Never die will be an obvious asset of our defense on short-mid term.

I see Edrine is now size 7 ... got into trouble and needed more units? We'll need a handful of workers to be able to keep up with the expansion phase at its start. That and a city or 2 that can pull a settler in less than 10 turns.

Once the GA's are over, we can really start expanding - and we'll have knights coming on.

Any update on the tech situation?

With GL we got IIRC temples, Monarchy, Mysticism and HR.
We do have 1 settler (poor thing is on the hill near istambulish caw wondering why he was born in the first place). I just couldn't allow Edrine build anything but swords with such an onslaught of AI.

Allrighty, order received for dinner, armies and maybe revolt if I manage to defend a bit... Anything else (traduction from Bulgarian - got it for tonight).

MP10
(0) 350BC
MM a bit. Istanbul is at 9 spt and Edirne at 11, manage them for 3 turn swords. MapStat is blinking because we have 2 more tiles than needed to dominate visible lands :lol: Switch Bookstore to cat, we need them more and we already have some barracks. Empty Istanbul to bait the AI. Hit enter…
(IBT) We lose Izmit to Maya. Along with a cat.
(1) 330BC
Kill 2 celtic archers. Edirne is facing 3 mayans (2 swords and a JT) with 3 swords fortified, 2 of them wounded. Similar situation at Never Die. Not much to do. 2:1 Mayans already have a rushed spear in Izmit. I hate this feature. Another enter.
(IBT) Lose a sword but kill 3 in defence. Code of Laws and Construction came in.
(2) 310BC
Kill Celtic 2 Archers and Spear. Wound a gallic. 8:2
(IBT) Lose a sword but kill a gallic and 2 swords. 11:3
(3) 290BC
Lose elite sword attacking a wounded horse in the open! :mad: Finish him but his revenger is exposed. Kill a celt. We need fast units, change builds to horses. 12:4
(IBT) Lose a spear and an archer, kill an archer. We’re overwhelmed. 13:6
(4) 270BC
Blah.
(IBT) Never Die is Razed. 3 Gallics retreat then archers achieve and the city is lost. 13:9
(5) 250BC
Kill 2 swords, lose one. 15:10
(IBT) Breath time, kill a JT. 16:10
(6) 230BC
Kill an archer and a JT, capture settler. 18:10
(IBT) Lose a sword on a mountain against GS.
(7) 210BC
Kill a spear and get this:
Leader1.JPG

Orhan becomes an army, the sword loaded immediately kills an archer. Then I get rid of a GS and a JT. 22:10
(IBT) Epic is a good idea when I get the time…
(8) 190BC
Kill mayan spear, bomb two GS. 23:10
(IBT) Somehow our lands fill with GS.
(9) 170BC
Kill 2 GS with army, it’s redlined at 2hp. 25:10
(IBT) Kill a gallic, lose a sword on defence. 6 gallics show up.
(10) 150BC
Kill 2 Gallics and a spear. The situation is tough. Pay attention, the capital is empty. 29:11 Not good.
Those gallics freak me off. Sorry. I got a few cats, but we're very thin...

Look at the bright side: in 10 turns their GA is over ...

Khan, I understand you very well. Your kill ratio sounds pretty reasonable, I recall my shock when I saw all those hordes, and you got even more gallics and swords. Two AGR civs + GA = Death.

Sorry, but this game is unofficially over. I started playing and lost 2 cities on the first 3 turns. The Maya and Celts each have tons of units coming and we have so little. If anyone wants to play the 150BC save to different results, be my guest. I actually got a MGL, but we were down to 6 cities and I don't think it would've helped against what I was facing.

I'm trying to think of what we did wrong and I have 2 possibilities. 1. The AI was just too powerful. good start position or their GAs/UUs, something like that. 2. Us expanding too fast. This worked fine in the AWE game, but in this one we had small weak cities and the enemy is pouring in fast. It would have been so much better to have extra military here, spears, archers, etc. and try to expand more slowly, but safely.

Yeah, I want revenge. I think TGL killed us, but I have no idea how AW can be played without it.

Leha: what do you mean the TGL killed us? really it didn't last more than a few turns to be any use, but...it's impossible otherwise. Is that what you meant?

Ifyuan got me thinking and I'd kinda like to try Greece. Wasted GA, sure but an invincible defender that will be useful and cheap for a long time.

I mean in this specific case we could probably stand AI offensive if we had dozen more units.
