Multipolarity II - Game Thread

Repeating the same mistake twice of leaving no defence it seems. Incidentally not a mistake I ever intend to make :p

Not really a mistake, more of a calculated risk.

There is one mistake in the write up, and that is that it says the Ozian troops intended to conquer/take territory...

foreign observors are so unreliable ;)

My children, I come down from the Mountain with a tablet in each hand. Within each is inscribed a new rule that shall hopefully lay to rest a balancing issue that will keep making itself known otherwise.

As it stands, investments in trade are twice as profitable as Industry.

As such, I could either nerf trade value as I did before, OR, make it so Industry has extra perks. Industry already has the value of increasing 10% each turn, so every 10 gold is well worth it. Now, I am introducing more perks.

Rule Number One: Falling below the first world HDI average will incur revolt risk. Your HDI is your Industry, which represents GDP per capita at the end of the day. Yes this is a butchering of stats, but foxy doesn't care. :p Your people are pampered and expect that a first world country will be able to give them a good quality of life. Provided you have low instability, the higher RR will just mean constant tax lowering, but as the instability grows...

Abridged: What this means is someone in the lead like London now has -8% RR from being so prosperous; their people are content and happy with the government's economic management. Victoria's people, by contrast, have +7% RR now, they are angry at the government's management.

Ruler Number Two: Your Industry value caps your military/espionage value. It's easy to follow: 0.0300 Industry means you can have 30 in any field, 0.0200 means you can have 20, etc. This only applies to spending; points can still be gained through experience. Logic: A third world nation could not hope to field an army as well-trained or well-equipped as the US, German, UK, etc. armies.

Rule Number Three: A state's industry can at most double each turn. This is to prevent the exchange rates system from resulting in hilarious stupidity. This is for humans' benefit as well - it keeps minor nations from becoming economic giants.
That means that my national policy Invest only on industry, would be superior?

While investing purely in industry seems like a good way to go, without an army or a good espionage network, you're just asking for people to break in and steal all the gold. :p

@ Jehoshua:

I meant that since the development of Oz lands is so low, occupying them hurt your industry rating.

@ Mayor:

Sure they were there to try and assassinate King Katter but I'm not fairly certain that would have been the polite thing to do. :p

==Angolan Civil War==

10 peasant divisions rise up, half in the north and half in the south. The 5 in the north have no opposition, so take 5 territories.

The southern rebels take 1 territory. In total, Angola and the Rebels each lose 1 army. Angola loses 6 territories to the rebels, but will likely retake them quick due to the poor quality of the rebel armies. In the meantime, the fighting has seen 1.715 million taken to the rebel side, with 172,000 killed.

The government could always appease the rebels by repealing the segregationist policies, or it could just waltz in and crush them with superior firepower. Either way, Angola has seen some serious economic dislocation.

==Libyan Civil War==

With both Libya and Cyerene claiming the mandate of Alameinea, carnage is a must. But what is this? A coup against the rebel leadership?!

The coup succeeds. The rebel notables are taken off into the desert on "vacation," and those that return to the fold find themselves given estates and positions in the re-united government. The civil war ends without a shot being fired.

Well that was anti-climactic.

To come: The Bayou War / Coups

Citizens and residents who have risen up in revolt; you are severely hampering the amount of aid we can send to Finno-Poland. What are your demands?

Fair enough I suppose, just to clarify I do have more industry right, but the rating is down since the proportion of industry per-province is now lower. It would just be wierd to lose raw industry.

Oh and on a certain assasination attempt, It is known that there must always be a Katter. ;)

That's what I meant, Jeho. The industry value is actually a raw representative of wealth per province / citizen, so it drops when seizing poor areas.

Angola Rebels:

Provision Three must be overturned.

(( Mechanic-wise: Reduce taxes to 20% for at least one turn (represents repeal of punitive taxes). This will cause them to revert to Angolan control and the armies shall disperse. ))

I hope Angola dies along with [redacted], [redacted], and the little pansy [red-Partitionians-acted].

Up until now corporate branch placements have been mostly random, but I've decided to create a standard equation: Corporate Placement Probability = (0.25 - Tax Rate) + (Number of Shares in Corporation) + 1. Multiply by 0 if at war. Corporate city-states do not get placement.

Low taxes + number of shares + being at peace is the key.

20% of all my taxes comes from foreign residents? Aren't my taxes only like 25% anyways? Taxes from my residents would be more like 5% rather than 20%.
As Angola is gearing up for war and all citizens and residents must do all they can for their motherland, we politely request you come up with a better demand or, if you stick with your guns, be wiped off the face of the earth.
The 20% tax on residents is to encourage residents to apply for citizenship - whether it is through normal application or whether it is through applying to the military and serving a 6 year tour; if you don't want to deal with the tax hike, deal with it, join the military.
If you do not stand down or continue with an outrageous demand that would cripple our economy on the eve of war, then we will be forced to use lethal force and destroy you. And nobody wants that.

Angola Rebels:

We are not just subjected to taxes; we are subject to humiliation by being forced to wear clothing that identifies us as non-citizens, a violation of our essential right to privacy. It'd be no different than if the state began marking people based on ideology, religious belief, sexual orientation, or any personal information. It is inherently unjust.

We refuse to be tagged like animals. Though we do have one thing in common with animals: if you seek to aggress against us, we shall bite.

==Revolts==

Despite a 68% chance of roflcopter over the 100% tax rate, the Caribbean Empire does not explode. Voodoo Pizzaman now has a vast treasury to beat everyone else over the head with.

Sumatra has a tax revolt.
Orange League has a tax revolt.
Georgia has a tax revolt.
S. American Alliance has a tax revolt.
Iraq had a tax revolt.
Sweden had a tax revolt.
Soviet Pacific had a tax revolt.

==Coups==

Coup in Twilightopia. Renamed to South Cascadia; Jacob Black replaces Stephenie Meyer as leader, ostensibly because she refused to let him get the girl. Pro-501st. Both Cascadias are now united behind the 501st, though any political union will have to wait given the north is dirt poor.

Germany had a coup. Pro-London.

Well. That was anti-climactic as well.

Those rebels, they only want to fight? I will make them an offer in buying our brand new product "Happills", pills that make you so happy that you don't care about the social problems and such.
The peruvian population is buying them as they were food, so, why not you?

If you don't wish to be tagged as non-citizens (which is a necessary evil for state security), then apply for citizenship or serve a tour in the military. If you don't like either option, then you can always emigrate somewhere else.
