Ux-Battaaar Lee, Prime Minister of Mongolia:

S48Jp8L.jpg

Mr. Lee, the Prime-Minister of Mongolia and leader of the Democratic Party is the most influential figure in Modern Mongolia. Born in a poor Nomadic Family, he studied in the Polytechnic National University of Mongolia. He then, aged 32, joined the Democratic Party. At first, he was a simple member of the party, but managed in 10 short years to become a MP in the Mongolian Senate, then Minister of Justice, then Minister of Foreign Affairs and finally, at the age of 42, leader of the Democratic Party. 8 years later, at the age of 50, he was elected Prime Minister of Mongolia.

Mr. Lee has fought corruption and inefficient bureaucracy. When he was Minister of Justice, he managed to clean Mongolia from corruption. As Minister of Foreign Affairs, he had created alliances with other nations and ended Mongolia's isolation.

Now, Mr. Lee has created a new 10-years program for economic development and investment in the industry codenamed ''Pax Mongolica''. The program includes the creation of new factories and the drawing of more foreign investors to Mongolia. Also it will increase the size of the Mongolian Army, in order to be able to defend the Fatherland and persuade foreign investors about the stability of Mongolia.

Mr. Lee himself said in a speech that at the end of this program ''Mongolia will be an economic superpower'' and ''Mongolia will see an economic development not seen since the fall of Genghis Khan's Empire''. Mongolian analysts predict that if the program works, Mongolia will be one of the most wealthy countries on earth.

"All men must die, all men must serve"

~ sayings of the fifth golden master

-

The acolyte screamed as the master gripped tightly to his head, clearly in terrible, unfathomable pain. The master smiled, pain is the awareness of life, and this blessed man was very near to his moment of the possible, that blessed moment where the pain of all things is reflected in oneself, and in acceptance one opens the door to the fire of life where all things might be possible. Then, in the midst of that single golden moment, as eternal as the christian heaven this blessed man would be granted the great gift which ends all suffering that he may know the eternal forever. Death.

The master grabbed from beneath his saffron robe a knife, crafted from obsidian into a thin and narrow point. He raised it up above his acolytes face, and looked down and smiled, for in the midst of the acolytes agony he saw that the moment had come. beaming with compassion he brought the knife down in a flash of blackness, straight into the acolytes eye, into his brainstem. The death was instantaneous, the body fell, he had been granted peace.

The master sheaved the knife and turned to Tenzin Dorji, who had been passively observing the Golden Master from the door of his meditation room.

"Enter Tenzin, We're glad that the nations did not elect you, for you have ever been the most adept of my servants. Ah, but what word do you bring, the unenlightened ever agitate and go hither and thither in their foolishness, always concoting come new conflagration."

"I thank you master, I bring word of a group calling itself the Borneo Pact, it includes our eastern neighbours, they pledge action against those nations that engage in what the barbarians call "the slave trade""

the Golden Master chuckled amusedly. The protestations of the lesser nations had always been a curiosity to him and this recent moralism was particularly delectable in his sight

"Ah, they do not know then, that all men are slaves, slaves to greed, to pride, to ambition, to masters and yet more masters and to the suffering that is life?"

"Indeed it is so, they do not know the blessed yoke of the golden horde, and the liberating joy of slavery to the Golden and most Illuminated Master"

"They do not know yet Tenzin, but all in good time. Go forth unto this Borneo Pact and tell them this, that all men must serve, and that all within our Empire are slaves to the most compassionate golden master and kissing the chains of our compassion are liberated from the tyranny of ignorance and egotism. Tell them that should we seek to liberate those enslaved by the unlightened that they may be enslaved to light and brought into the joyful brotherhood of the horde, than we shalt do so."

"And if they seek to make themselves opposed to Your Divine Radiance?"

The golden master took out his knife

"Than perhaps in time we shalt bring them to their moment of the possible"

From Mongolia
To Noodle Republic:

An embargo of our Mongolian brothers (the Golden Horde) will not be well looked by Mongolia.

1: On Yunnan

The Golden Master, in his unlimited compassion, announced his fraternal protection of the State of Yunnan, that no nation may seek its ovethrow or ruin save they wish for war with the Golden Horde. As a sign of His manifold benevolence, the Golden Master also offers a Non-Agression Pact with Yunnan as a sign of his compassionate intent.

2: On The Slave Trade

The Golden Master announces that the Golden Horde shalt continue its longstanding practice of purchasing slaves bound to lesser masters so that they may be liberated in the light of the Margayana Buddhist faith and inducted into fraternal brotherhood of the horde in its blessed servitude to the Golden Master. (the Horde technically buys slaves to convert them, and upon conversion they are "freed" to the horde. The horde doesn't have the same conception of slavery as you do though, it considers that all are slaves to the Golden Master who alone of men is free, or to lesser unenlightened masters, it doesn't see a difference between a man captured and put to work, or a lesser cook bound to serve the Iron Chef)

3: To The Noodle Republic

The Golden Horde, wishing to solemnise the current status quo vis a vis the hordes use of free ports in the Noodle Republic. Wishes to sign a treaty granting in perpetuity the Hordes usage of Noodler ports free of customs and duties in order that it may be assured of the stability of its maritime trade in the future, and not be required to engage in the acquisition of ports through military means.

Tensions on turn 1. I thank you, Sonereal, this should be interesting for a good while!

I require traits from:
Hoplitejoe
Dem Taqat
Double A
Ogane
Nedim
Patchy

I added traits to the rules under "Joining," a trait is just +10% to Army, Navy, Espionage or Influence spending.

If you want to control trade and project power - Navy
If you want to bludgeon neighbors or fend off assaults - Army
If you plan on lots of subterfuge - Espionage
If you're into huge diplomatic clout and want more client income - Influence

To: The Golden Horde

As your slavery does not seem to be the Noodle Republic's definition of slavery, indeed it seems more reminiscent of the slavery-in-name-only of short lived Renfair in the North Americas. Religious devotion is nothing to be discouraged, as long as everything is voluntary then everything is fine. The Merchants of the Golden Republic will be treated as citizens of the Noodle Republic for purposes of trade, they would not be charged any taxes or dues that any other citizen would not pay. And of course there is fees that the port owners may wish to charge on your merchants, but I am sure that you can arrange an acceptable arrangement with the port's private owners.

ooc: The Golden Horde is not a Republic.

-

To: The Noodle Republic

The Golden Master appreciates the aggreeability of the Noodle Republic with regards to the Golden Horde and its mercantile practices, and continued use of your ports. Would you be willing therefore, as we requested, to sign this arrangement into a treaty along the following lines?

-

Lhasa Trade Treaty

-

Article I: The Noodle Republic agrees to refrain from any interference with any trade whatsoever of the Golden Horde, or any practices pertaining thereof.

Article II: The Noodle Republic agrees to consider the hordes merchants as equivalent to citizens of the Noodle Republic for the purposes of trade and use of ports, and allow ships accredited to the Golden Horde the use of its ports as harbour.

Article III: The Golden Horde agrees to, in ordinary circumstances, maintain amicable free trade with the Noodle Republic and refrain from any embargoes against it and vice versa.

~ signed, The Golden Master

We agree to the treaty.

The Polity Alliance of Brazilian Cities is eager to sign the Amistad Charter. Brazil can always do with the labour and will offer pacts to the higher sellers of quality slaves.

The contribution of Brazil would be grand. Any vote would require 2/3rds of the current charter members, so that will be taken up for vote as the soonest possible time. Meanwhile, we offer a naval alliance treaty to protect our shipping at the high seas.

The Peoples Protectorate of the Amazon Rainforest is eager to conduct tests on subjects. Supply us subjects and there might be cake baked in a pact of friendship.

Kenya welcomes the extra labour.

Same as Brazil to the PPAR and Kenya.

The United States of Cascadia was among the first of the minor powers to condemn the charter and set out that any slaver vessels porting in Cascadia will be boarded and have the slaves freed.

Fair enough. We wouldn't force neutral ports that did not want slaves for accepting the slave trade.

The United Kingdom of America and Republic of Italy will remain neutral on the matter at the moment.

Same comment as to the USC to the UKA and RoI. While we would be happy for your nations to embrace the trade, we understand if your countries don't.

Morocco, Aragon, Brittany, Kirov, Switzerland, Namibia, Arabia, Tamil, Maratha, Hindustan, Burma, Tasmania, Western Australia, the Abyssinian Empire, Christian States of America, the Caribbean, Panama, Peru, Finland, Lusitania, Petrograd, Free Ryazan, Guyana, Oman, Benin, Ōpūnui Incorporated States (Hawaii), New Guinea and Nicaragua are all unpleased with the brining of neo slave trading.

Unfortunate, but understandable. The slave trade isn't race-based as it was centuries ago, or religion based as it was long before that. For all intents and purposes, slaving in the Crimson Court places no importance on race or religion.

offer us protection against the slavers and we will in turn be grateful. Consider this a stance of purity.

Seeing that Brunei has refused the ultimatum, we are making raising the call to all private and public entities. The Crimson Court has already prepared for war, and we are offering the sale of negotiable Freedom Bonds to pay for the war (which will mature in six years [OCC: 3 turns]). We also will pay for the leasing of ships and volunteer companies. For individuals and governments wishing to see early profit from the leasing payments, we would like to note that private individuals and governments get to keep 3/5ths of all cargo seized in designated "free fire zones" for personal sale and service.

Siding with the Crimson Court may not be morally sound to some, but do not confuse morality with the economic sense of a major power basically offering early returns.

Fellow Confucius power that is the Kingdom of Sulawesi may or may not stand up in favour of helping Brunei, although its size means it could endanger itself by conducting such policy.

We mean the Kingdom of Sulawesi no harm by this conflict. We have nothing but respect for our other neighbors.

Butting in to state that the slave trade has been factored into the mechanics now; it was simple enough.

Common sense applies as always; the larger they are as a percentage the more disruptive things might get. :p On the other hand the fact they don't need wages or regulations means they're more valuable than normal pop units. With risk comes reward!

For the moral types you can always buy the slaves just to free them, as well.

OOC: Sonereal's crazy creates yet another mechanic in a TFIOT.

Brunei is thankful to the virtues of the Noodle Republic. This may see a full on alliance between Brunei and the Noodle Republic. Emperor Eko will offer to come to one of your universities to give a lecture on Confucius and his morals as a first step to rewarding your nation of virtue.

Emperor Eko, clearly, fails to see the gravity of the situation, young sons and daughter of Brunei. He doesn't quite understand that he is putting you all on the path of subjugation, instead of just the unwanted elements of your society. He is quite willing to see you all in chains to protect his pride.

Were there not concubines in Confucian China? What is the difference between a concubine and a slave other than treatment and wording of the terms?

In any case, the fact that he's already preparing to fly out of his country as the earliest convenience when war is coming should send up red flags. People of Borneo, just overthrow your monarch. Put in power you actually like and, better yet, acknowledged that war is coming like the unstoppable wave after an earthquake. The people of Brunei who do indeed fight against their government, and do link up with Crimson Forces and the forces that make up our International Brigades don't have to worry about ever being slaves.

Brazil is outraged that Brunei is going against its slaver ally and will embargo the Noodle Republic.

It is quite unfortunate that the Noodle Republic chooses to fight free markets at every turn.

The PSA, Korea and the Spartan Federation will keep out of the matter, although they might provide their military to the highest bidder in any war over the slavery issue.

We don't wish to repeat points made above, but our side has the highest potential return on investment. As stated, we will pay for volunteer companies, leased ships, as well as sell old fashion, but very popular, bonds.

Xaver Wyman of Belgium is willing to ship dissentients criminals to the Crimson King so that they may serve as slaves. Consider this a move to better trade relations. He also offers his military support if needed.

Thankee kindly, Sai-Xaver Wyman of Belgium. Military support is grand, and we would be happy to take your undesirables off your hands to work the cinnamon plantations of Ceylon, the rubber plantations, the oil derricks, and all kinds of character-building work. So many think our slavery no different from chattel slavery of old. I disagree.

We have come a long way technologically.

United Republic of Tamil may in light of Xaver's actions offer its military support to Brunei and the Noodle Republic if war breaks out.

Unfortunate.

Parties sending companies, leasing ships, or buying bonds. Please announce your intentions to do so in thread. I will then contact you in privacy to work out the terms of the contract.

The Leth Confederacy will gladly sign into the Borneo Pact.

From the UN

The Crimson Court holds onto the view that the Noodle Republic is irresponsibly and maliciously raising the status of a minor conflict into a full-blown regional war between great powers over an ally that was not an ally until after the Yellow Chinese decided to intervene.

While we're not calling for any UN intervention in the matter, we are posting this discussion as a way to vent our great displeasure with Yellow China as their reckless, dangerous escalation of a conflict will send shockwaves throughout the rest of the world.

We further state that the Borneo Pact was signed after the beginning of hostilities, which officially began after the refusal of the ultimatum and that, therefore, the Borneo Pact can not be applies retroactively to the conflict.

Assembly of the UN Commission for the Ex-Sarajevan Protectorate Territories of the Balkans and Northern Italy

Commissioner General: Major General Philip MkVenner
XVFZiTU.jpg

MkVenner original hailed from Great Britain and trained as an officer at Sandhurst with a specialism in leading covert operations. He went on to join the forces of the UN Peacekeepers in 2178. In his first few years as an officer he excelled in the management of the scout company of his regiment and by 2184 he led his own regiment of recon specialists. Over the next 4 years he led countless actions in Bosnia, Croatia and Venetia. He rose up through the ranks and ended up as Commander of all military operations in the Northern Theatre holding the rank of Major General from 2188. One year earlier in 2187 he had been elected to the position of a Member of the UN Commission's Assembly for the Ex-Sarajevan territories. in 2184 he was elected to the position of Commissioner General for the entire protectorate.
The Commissioner General is the head of state of the protectorate, it is an elected position with which candidates must fulfil the following conditions: Rank of Lieutenant General or higher in the UN Peacekeeping Forces, must have served at least 10 years in Ex-Sarajevan Territories, must have served at least one term on the UN Commission's Assembly.

Other Members of the Assembly
General Lucian Wilder
vHvrS9Y.jpg

Wilder is one of the toughest of the tough officers, not shy to get his hands dirty or resort to hard measures to get the job done Wilder has accumulated a legacy of brutal leadership bloody minded determination. During the 4th Siege of Sarajevo in 2188 it was Wilder who called for the artillery strike that won the battle, though at the cost of a few hundred civilian lives. Wilder is a competent commander who doesn't shy away from such choices. He walks the fine line between tough and sadistic.

Lieutenant General Francisco Du Sautoy
8xJ0FYy.jpg

Originally from Southern France Du Sautoy was one of the most brilliant of the commanders of the Sarajevan war, where others used the UN's force and superior training to best the enemy Du Sautoy employed methods of guile to coordinate ambushes, guerilla divisions and expert flanking manoeuvres. Following the merger of the UN Peacekeeping forces and the Sarajevan government Du Sautoy took command of many of the Sarajevan troops in favour of the Peacekeepers in order that his resourcefulness be put where it was most useful. Unlike Wilder Du Sautoy chose to take on a more limited role in field command once being elected to the Assembly. However he still maintains a lot of input in military matters and does not regard himself as much a politician unlike Bainbridge.

Lietenant General Harvey Bainbridge
DaZoamj.jpg

Bainbridges career started in 2183 in the Canadian Royal Guard before transferring in 2185 to the Canadian Peacekeeping forces in the Ex-Sarajevan territories. By 2188 he was in command of a brigade and after a year of that he transferred up to command of the UN Army Group Albania which operated in the southern ex-Sarajevan territories. Following his election to the assembly Bainbridge has become increasingly more political and is seen by many to be now more of a politician than a field commander, he shares this view and doesn't try to hide it.

Brigadier General Jacob Thistletwaite
S55pEgI.jpg

Young and Charismatic Thistlethwaite only recently rose through the ranks with his first command being in 2193 and achieving the rank of colonel in 2196 however his ascent was quickened due to his brilliant actions in the Ligurian theatre where he fended off an incursion from Morocco during the Agadir Dispute of 2198. Following this he rose far and quickly to become leader of the West Italian brigade. The following summer he was elected to the Assembly many claim because of his winning charisma and popularity with the lower classes. He is young and not overly ambitious however he is hardworking, determined and frightfully idealistic.

General Jovan Karavelić
WdPHaEa.jpg

Karavelić was originally a Sarajevan officer but during the merger between the two bodies he became part of the United Nations forces. He is a tenacious and vigorous commander hardened through the conflicts that surrounded him. He is also one of the more conservative parties in his attitude towards those responsible for the war and is often seen campaigning for more trails, investigations and effort regarding the massacres and tragedies of the war. This has won him a significant population of the electorate.

Government of the Crimson Court

Crimson King Ram Abbalah, Third of His Name, King of the Crimson Kingdom and Borneo, High Duke of Sumatra, is the head of government and state of the Crimson Court, which resides on Sumatra. The Crimson Kingdom (or Court as it is popularly called) combines elements of a 19th-century European absolute monarchy with forms of feudalism found all over the world. Ram Abbalah, by law, has absolute and complete authority over the domains, but he leaves the mundane parts of the job, such as taxation and administration, to his underlings, who often leave the job to their underlings.

For this reason, the Crimson Court is divided into four dukedoms: Ceylon, Malaysia, Sumatra, and the Court of Jakarta. Each dukedom has a presiding Crimson Duke who is responsible for maintaining order and taxation of the territories. There is no single-uniform tax policy other than those put forth by the Crimson King. The overall tax rate is usually 20-25% as the Crimson Court taxes on the duke-level, not lower. The dukes, by extension, can pass their own tax rates, from which the revenue of which is passed on up and the dukes can pocket or use to their leisure. For this reason, the Crimson Duke of Ceylon has a lower tax rate on his counts, but the Crimson Duke of the Jakarta Court has a higher tax rate than average.

The dukes perform their duties to their regions through intermediaries, as much of the Crimson nobility reside in the Crimson Imperial City in Sumatra. Their intermediaries are often Court-loyalists and bureaucrats who successfully completed their exams in Sumatra. Since the most skilled bureaucrats, therefore, must come to Sumatra to take the test, and because the nobility for political, economic, or social reasons also reside in Sumatra, the Crimson King keeps a close eye on the nobility easier than not, and the actual administrators in all the regions are loyal to the central court.

The Crimson King has recently taken on the temporary title of "King of the Crimson Kingdom and Borneo" until such time it is decided whether Brunei will be incorporated as a duke-level region or kingdom-level. The situation is ongoing and while kingdom-level would be beneficial to Borneo's leadership, it looks like it will be incorporated at the ducal level at the current pace. Nonetheless, Borneo will be the fourth title added under the Crimson Court. It is hoped a peaceful end to the conflict can be reached with Brunei's leader accepting the title of Crimson King, and Ram Abbalah elevating himself to "Crimson Emperor of Court Crimson and Borneo."

#5----------

The Absolute Power cruised lazily far above the jungle, it's three escorts keeping pace. Nearly a kilometer beneath it, a flotilla of seventeen airships in the formation of an arrow arced through the sky on their way to one of Tayloristan's larger cities, their upper hulls packed with sightseers gazing up at the largest of Tayloristan's zeppelins.

On board the ship, The Dictator gazed out upon the jungle. Nearly five minutes later, Raekhimnijong appeared by the Dictator's side. "My lord, we have received an overture of military alliance from Mongolia." He whispered.

The Dictator stared silently over the jungle. "My lord?" Raekhimnijong questioned.

Raekhimnijong waved his hand in front of Shrev Taylor's face, noting how his eyes did not follow it. Raekhimnijong nodded, then slapped Shrev across the face.

"What was that for?" The Dictator shouted.

"Business. Mongolia has proposed a military alliance with us." Raekhimnijong stated without fear.

"Mongolia? Show me where that is on a map." Shrev Taylor ordered.

"It's in Mongolia." Raekhimnijong clarified unhelpfully.

"Which is where?" The Dictator stated menacingly.

"Asia. It's landlocked, I think. We don't exactly have a map in the conference room." Raekhimnijong theorized.

"Why would a landlocked Asian country want a military alliance with a maritime African power?" Shrev Taylor wondered.

"I don't know, my lord." Raekhimnijong answered. "But we do know they're a militaristic power."

"Army doesn't solve things." Shrev Taylor muttered.

"Yes, my lord, but that doesn't mean an alliance with them would not be beneficial." Raekhimnijong stated.

"How? It would be physically impossible for either of us to support the other in the event of war, and we don't particularly want to go to war if our allies start a war." The Dictator questioned.

"I don't know, I'm just disagreeing with everything you say!" Raekhimnijong exploded.

"That is what I pay you for, and you're performing admirably." Shrev Taylor reassured. "Inform Mongolia that we truly appreciate the offer, but we are wary of forming military alliances so quickly."

"By your command, my lord." Raekhimnijong turned to leave.

"Oh, and have Annabelle bring a map in here, would you?" The Dictator asked.

"If I can get her to do anything, sure." Raekhimnijong muttered as he left.

------------

A human form loped through the jungle. Her skin had acquired a sickly green tint, her right arm held in a makeshift sling of leaves and bark, wearing the pelt of an unidentifiable animal, carrying a walking stick adorned with four 5" animal claws on one end.

It wasn't as if the landscape was any more civilized. The leaves on the trees pointed at the sky, the ground was scarred with deep pits full of plants clinging to the sheer sides. A constant green mist rose from the ground itself, and anything flat and lightweight left lying around was soon lost to the air. Interesting. This gas seems to share properties with hydrogen, just lighter. She deduced as her Brunei heritage showed itself.

Above, the third of Tayloristan's convoys to follow this route passed her. So I'm going the right way. She thought. No way an airship would follow any route but the most direct one.

The human form loped through the jungle, following the steel gray beasts of the air as the sun set.

-------------

Shrev watched intently as the 17-ship flotilla sailed into the setting sun and out of his view.

Doumont stepped heavily to the Dictator's side.

Shrev stirred. "Has Annabelle arrived yet?" He asked.

"No, she and Raekhimnijong are having a shooting contest over who will be bringing you the map. I must again recommend you fire her." Doumont answered. "Any of our military pilots would be happy to fly you."

"And I must insist she stay employed." The Dictator replied.

"But why? Ah, of course." Doumont theorized.

"Of course what?" Shrev questioned.

"Well, you keep her employed because she's your mistress. Which also explains why you let the other one go into the jungle." Doumont continued. "Don't worry, it's expected for those in power to keep escorts around. I just wish you didn't choose your pilot."

"Doumont. Annabelle is my pilot because she's my bodyguard." The Dictator replied quizzically.

"Oh. Well that makes sense then. And her work ethic is?" Doumont asked.

"Permitted as part of her cover." Shrev answered.

"As your mistress, that being why you let Zoe walk into certain death in the jungle despite obviously being interested?" Doumont demanded.

"As my mistress, yes. And what is your concern about Zoe?" The Dictator offered.

"Your sanity." Doumont sarcastically offered. "You were clearly interested, and most people don't react well to people they're interested in dying."

"I couldn't show favoritism to her. Not when history was watching." Shrev murmured. "I'll be fine in a few days. Now go away."

"By your command, my lord." Doumont bowed and left.

War Averted
Long live the Crimson Emperor Abbalah
Long Live the Crimson Heavenly Emperor Eko!

Today, I am proud to announce the newest addition to the Crimson Empire, the Crimson Heavenly Kingdom of Brunei, ruled by the prestigious Heavenly Emperor Eko. War has been averted, and the world heaves a great sigh over the great fortune of avoidance.

-Brunei enters the Crimson Court as a kingdom-level entity. On this level, Brunei is free to set her own laws and tax rates. Mechanically, Brunei would be a client that doesn't pay tax to the Crimson Court.

-Brunei can pass her own laws and survey her own customs that do not contract Empire-wide laws. Laws that only exist on the Crimson Kingdom level, for instance, will NOT affect Brunei.

-Brunei must, annually, make up 2% of its population available for purchase and the Crimson Court must be granted exclusive right to purchase human and conventional cargo from Brunei. The Crimson Court will pay for these purchases fairly.

-The Crimson Court will aid in the development of Brunei economically and militarily should it join the Crimson Empire.

-Brunei can not enter into alliance or treaty-agreements with foreign nations. As such, treaties made by the Crimson Court affects Brunei.

-Brunei's leadership will earn valuable positions at court.

-Crimson Court will protect Brunei from internal and external enemies.
