Assassination!

Dictator Shrev Taylor has been shot twelve times by an automatic weapon while giving a speech in Formidda to reassure the citizenry of the government's commitment to them.

Dr. Emperor Lionsleeper pronounced our glorious leader dead moments later.

The Dictator's murderer shot from within the crowd, and most likely died when City Defense helicopters launched 40mm anti-personnel grenades at the location the shots came from.

The late Shrev Taylor's fiance, Annabelle Lee, was not available for comment.

It is truly shocking when our beloved leader can be so easily snatched from us by a cowardly assassin.

Future of Triple Alliance Uncertain!

With the death of late Dictator Shrev Taylor, the Big Three Cities have been unable to choose a successor - largely because the only other living Amatyi, Kinman Doumont, succumbed to jungle fever only four hours before.

She stood by the window. Directly behind her, a door which would admit a person bringing food twice a day.

From the information she'd gleaned, the battle fleet which the "Revolution" had gathered had been quietly disbanded as the government's battle-hardened armies returned after Cape Verde's surrender.

The Carrier had been sent far out to sea, to await a time when the Revolution could force their goals to be upheld.

The Carrier was not in good condition. Most of the crew had grown to hate the engineers responsible for it with a burning passion as they discovered precisely how much space had been wasted with gigantic, obsolete equipment or simply had not been utilized properly. Despite being a massive two kilometer by 400 meter floating fortress, the combat capabilities of the Carrier were more in line with that of a much smaller vessel - as were its crew amusements and comforts.

Very quickly, all stations of crew from the hundreds of pilots to the many mechanics to gunners and mail room clerks had discovered that the Carrier had little spare power for electronic entertainment, was operating under broadcast silence so they couldn't tune into Tayloristan's radio stations and television channels, possessed inadequate air conditioning and heating, and items such as playing cards and ping pong balls had never been added to the Carrier's storerooms.

By some bizarre miracle, the crew had not mutinied - Captain Harkness attributed that to four factors: His excellent personnel management officers, the crew's faith in the Revolution, the Carrier's lax regulations and disciplinary practices, and the one recreational item which had been stocked on the Carrier: Several hundred thousand condoms.

So far, more than a thousand children had been born on the Carrier - thankfully, the crew had developed a tradition of sending them off to extended family when the supply freighters arrived.

The Carrier continued to cut through the sea - when the Revolution called it, it would be ready.

This is over the course of...how many turns has it been since Cape Verde's defeat? Four or five? Multiply that by two and you have the time in years.

I also may have intended to imply that - just because the Triple Alliance is staffed exclusively by morons does not mean the Revolution gets an exemption.

Siberian Civil War. The 501st and Horde are by far the dominant players, with the Americans out, the Sino-Japanese beaten, and the Azeri forces almost completely destroyed. Siberia looks to be poised to enjoy a new future under the stewardship of the Horde.

Norwegian Civil War. A no-fly zone and blockade have been imposed by 140,000 New American soldiers and 70,000 New American sailors to reduce the chance of outside interference. Those soldiers have helped the government and Icelandic forces in taking and holding ground in the country. Iceland has utterly dominated the Syndicalists, who have just barely held onto parts of territory in the countryside.

Midwestern Civil War. The Great Manes, Communists and their Goon allies have dealt a great blow to the Nationalist forces, but there is no clear victor just yet.

Armed with weaponry smuggled in from parts unknown, they have easily taken over most of the state and petitioned for re-admittance into the Combined Syndicates. Drug Craze. Heroin, cocaine and other highly-addictive substances have appeared in large quantities across New America. Their use has even spread into the echelons of the slave camps, making camps less efficient.

Subversives! Attempts to propagandize across America have been foiled.

Failed Coup. An attempt to overthrow the government of Puerto Rico has been foiled; the coup came from Trotskyists. Several have been imprisoned and others executed.

Leth Shipping Sunk. Submarines have engaged several merchant vessels before being sunk; unfortunately they were equipped with a self-destruct mechanism that prevented the Leth authorities from identifying who was responsible. (-50 Infra tech)

Operation: Roosevelt. The Argentines have overseen the removal of subversives from Panama. Al-Qaeda and Goon forces were removed, though agents suspected to be Zetan were also arrested; they have refused to talk.

Subversive Fiends! The French Empire has foiled a large plot by the Goon Squad to propagandize the Burgundian people. Never mind attempts to arm them with weapons.

Drugs Trade on the Rise in Italy. Self-explanatory. The government has decided to simply legalize it, given that half the bureaucrats are in on it anyway.

Operation: Banzai. China-Japan has led a counterintelligence effort across Asia and the Pacific. Al-Qaeda in China is considered all but dead as a result. In Hawai’i foreign operatives were found but they committed suicide before their origin could be revealed.

Oceania

Spoiler :

Spartacus Stands Strong. Coups in Sulawesi and Timor have been thwarted. However, nuclear bombing by the Jakarta Court has dealt a massive blow to the cause.

Operation: Thylacine. The 501st has coordinated intelligence assaults across its homeland and Australia. Humanity First has seen several of its members rounded up in Western Australia. Humanity First forces serving in the ranks of the Eastralian government have also seen their arrest. Meanwhile, the 501st’s home forces report something extraordinary: there appear to be no foreign forces at all in their territory. National security agencies are already planning a celebration of sorts to commemorate the achievement.

Operation: Emancipation. Large numbers of Jakartese spies have been rounded up and pressed into convict labor for karmic punishment by the Spartacus-aligned governments of Sulawesi and Timor.

Discontent in Jakarta. The declining opportunities of Jakartese citizens around the globe and the slaughter have proven detrimental to the power base in Jakarta. Only some concessions have kept a lid on the dissatisfaction. (-4% Tax rate)

Recommendations:

-Espionage is a good tool to rein in NGOs. NGOs derive their income from their percentage of a host country’s total espionage value, similar to how countries earn client income. A good way to bury them is to invest in espionage in a country; even if you don’t root them out through counterintel you can still hurt them greatly in this manner.
-There’s a “profitability” measure on the Influence sheet. The higher the number, the more cost-effective it is to invest in that country. You will notice the most active investors are also the richest nations…
-Participate in the UN. Even abstention votes will still generate some influence points; proposing resolutions and succeeding in getting them passed net the most points.
-It is a good idea to sign Exclusive Investment Agreements with your clients to keep competition out.
-Stay neutral. Neutral states don’t have to worry about things getting blown up, and a lot of events are biased towards peaceful countries.
-There are increasing theories that fission may have been a source of great power in the past. With enough education or military spending perhaps such theories could be looked into…
-Invest espionage in countries you have influence in; this will help keep you safe from predatory attempts to purge your influence.
