Also, it isn't annoyingly cheerful like Brazil, but slightly dark, and I like darker themes.

Medieval version is the best, but industrial is very grand and atomic very rousing.

It also just doesn't really match the aesthetic of Civ in my opinion. It may fit in a different kind of game, but not here. Also, in the battle of too-upbeat-and-cheerful themes, I much prefer Brazil's.

So, the impression I'm getting is that a lot of people don't like "upbeat" melodies in their Civ. I couldn't disagree more, and find that it adds to the variety of themes and makes the more up-tempo ones stand out. Not everything needs to be portentous and —dare I say— "epic"

Khmer (Khmer Rourm Sam Mawgee) - 19 (= 18 + 1) - I'm going to take some time out of voting up songs at the bottom of the pile to give some credit to one of my absolute favourite pieces in the game. The Khmer theme is a wonder, and marvellously arranged and performed in all eras. The roneat ek/marimba players are wonderful and contribute to this most distinctive of music. Absolutely should be up there with the highest scorers.
