Russia (Kalinka) - 17 (=16 + 1) - I really love how these themes develop. The source melody is instantly recognisable and strong, but the evolution is really what makes these great. The placid balalaika of the Ancient Era gives way to the more typical furious tempo changes of the Medieval version. Then the Industrial version really succeeds in evoking the Romantic Russian composers. Then the Red-Army-style vocals arrive in the Atomic (one of the few themes for which the Atomic version changes the Industrial in a positive way!) Each era presents a distinct evolution, yet each feels distinctly Russian.

Sometimes the melody is too slow for my tastes (Westerners seem to like slow East Asian music better than the fast), I want a more cheerful Chinese music. Also the lack of Erhu is saddening. I still like Wu Zetian Peace in Civ5 better than any version of this theme.
Cree (The Drums of Poundmaker) - (16+1)=17 Not nearly as awful as some people make it out to be. I applaud Geoff Knorr for having Cree singers perform the Native American chants. I get the feeling of being lifted to the sky during the later era themes.
